Designer bag-not tacky

Shushimwatchingemmerdale · 27/07/2021 22:43

I really want a special bag, a piece I can keep forever-designer but classy, not showy or tacky. I’ve never had this before. I’m thinking soft leather, definitely not shiny or brand new looking and quite large to use everyday
Is if just shallow and a waste of money?
Any ideas?

Mansur Gavriel or Mirta!

the80sweregreat · 30/07/2021 18:57

I really like radley bags ( not a dog lover as such, but the bags are just nice!)
They do some nice leather ones and have a sale on at the moment too.

A Celine Phantom would be my choice of tote for your budget but I also love the two tone Mansur Gavriel tote which is much cheaper phantom and mansur gavriel

sleepwhenidie · 30/07/2021 19:12

Just saw you like MG too ferretface!

sleepwhenidie · 30/07/2021 19:16

@ferretface loving Mirta!

Can people please give positive recommendations without being rude about other brands? Describing Mulberry as 'tacky' for example. For some (me included) that sort of bag is something to be dreamed of. It is possible to be nice about brand A without being unpleasant about brand B.
Very well said. I love my Mulberrys. I suspect these people are just jealous.
notapanday · 30/07/2021 19:56

Jealous of Mulberry bags?

Twinkie01 · 30/07/2021 20:15

I've a Chloe Marcie and an YSL Nikki, the Nikki fits more in but does have a logo. It's pretty slouchy after a year though.

LV and Mulberry are too common now. Every girl
at my sons school has the LV bucket bag and Mulberry are nowhere near as good quality as they used to be.

No it’s just that Mulberry is nowhere near as good as it used to be. They increased prices from £500 to over £1000 and outsourced production to China and Turkey. So they were charging more while at the same time reducing the quality of the product. The result is that they have neither the affordable prices of a high street brand nor the high quality of a luxury brand. I wouldn’t buy one today. If I’m paying luxury prices I want a luxury product. For the price of a Mulberry you can buy a better bag from another brand.

Smythson.

Sadly this - I love my vintage ones, my slouchy Mabel is my daily workhorse but I won't be buying any more.

The leather is much thinner and the quality has gone

PigeonPink · 30/07/2021 21:37

Yes, if you want a Mulberry buy vintage from ten years ago. Sadly the modern Mulberry bags are high street quality at luxury prices.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 30/07/2021 21:41

I have a mulberry mini kite in oxblood. I don't think it's tacky at all

19lottie82 · 30/07/2021 21:47

Celine, Loewe or YSL if it was me 👍

SurferRona · 30/07/2021 21:49

Gosh OP, for that budget don’t buy canvas! I have a few balenciaga, Chanel, Gucci black leather, a Celine and a few Saint Laurent. The SL tote (Roady hobo) is great, slouchy looking but v hardwearing. Capacious, good for days out and a supermarket top up too. I’d recommend Balenciaga lambskin bags all day long, just gorgeous. I’ve never bought new either!

notapanday · 30/07/2021 22:04

I don't think Mulberry is tacky but it's not certainly lost the edge it had.

PinkPiranha11 · 07/08/2021 21:31

This is beautiful I think.

My most used bag is Gucci soho disco, I would buy this again in another colour I really love it. It’s now 6 years old and is still looking perfect despite being my most used.
I have the LV neonoe recommended above and it’s a lovely bag and I’ve scuffed it against a wall twice and (thankfully) you cant see so I would say it’s well made. My fave bag for looks is my LV Alma BB in damier - i would love this in other leathers especially the plain EPI leathers in a lovely colour pop of red or cerise. I don’t have a neverfull but I can see why people love them, especially in Damier EB

I sort of understand the mulberry losing its charm, they did lose a lot of loyal customers with the price hikes however I have sold on 4 bags, 2 were equal to what I paid for them and the other 2 I got more than I paid so they do hold value even if desirability is now less.

Wouldn’t recommend the auction houses as i have seen fakes advertised. There are fakes of all brands, I wouldn’t let fakes put me off as you can spot a fake when you have a real one anyway.

Happy shopping Smile

Not a ‘designer label’ and more of a ‘mid range’ budget but have a look at kerikit.com

Some really lovely bags and great quality - gorgeous soft leather 😍

I’ve got one but am after another, just need some more money! 😄
