Designer bag-not tacky

I really want a special bag, a piece I can keep forever-designer but classy, not showy or tacky. I’ve never had this before. I’m thinking soft leather, definitely not shiny or brand new looking and quite large to use everyday
Is if just shallow and a waste of money?
Any ideas?

The general rule still applies - is your life about to change again with her off to pre-school? Or in another couple of years when she starts primary? Or might you have another baby? Or go back to work? Or move country? Or...

If so, and you want a forever bag that will be everyday use for some years, maybe hold off a bit and see, or lower your budget and get something that you expect to replace in a few years. But I'm only urging caution if that 1500 is a stretch and if you will feel bad about it if you end up finding it doesn't suit in a few years.

Delvaux- it's a luxury Belgian brand. Eg the "So Cool" shoulder bag in calf's leather. Timeless and practical.

Thoughts on this?

I don’t get it… when people say “a designer bag is an investment” and “it holds its value” but then on this thread people are saying Mulberry bags are now tacky and outdated so they obviously haven’t held their value? And someone said “Mulberry is the new Burberry” implying this has happened with another brand. I mean, personally I think spending over £1000 on a handbag is pretty obscene, just my opinion and I wouldn’t usually comment on a post about it as it’s obviously not my thing. But I don’t get the thing about people saying bags hold their value when they clearly don’t, it’s a volatile market linked to fashion and trends?

Some bags appreciate in value @CallMeRisley, you just have to pick the right one!

Even if they don't they're beautiful things to enjoy, I think most people buy them for that reason rather than an eye on the re-sale value.

If you like the idea of something like an LV neverfull then what about a Goyard St Louis? Much subtler and not quite so many fakes around.
