Designer bag-not tacky

Shushimwatchingemmerdale · 27/07/2021 22:43

I really want a special bag, a piece I can keep forever-designer but classy, not showy or tacky. I’ve never had this before. I’m thinking soft leather, definitely not shiny or brand new looking and quite large to use everyday
Is if just shallow and a waste of money?
Any ideas?
@SunscreenCentral Why not?

Am thinking Mulberry bags are beautiful, but too structured for my life, nicer for when I was working (currently year at home with toddler daughter)

Definitely want large and roomy and soft leather, very simple, no added shiny bits. The kind you just sort of throw around and they retain the slouchiness..won’t be throwing it around though 🤣

Budget maybe around 1500, def can’t do higher at the moment
I'd buy a good pre-loved Balenciaga city (ideally chevre)

Don't do mulberry!!! Please! I agree with another poster - Loewe or bottega, I have both and love that they are understated now logos but still luxurious Grin

I had a small Mulberry as a very special 30th present and I love it but it is quite structured even after two years of having loads of stuff shoved in it because pearls and swine.

beckyboops · 27/07/2021 23:03

Bottega! Much classier than mulberry

Merryoldgoat · 27/07/2021 23:04

Anya Hindmarch

"Budget maybe around 1500, def can’t do higher at the moment"

Are you sure you can afford to spend that amount on a handbag then, at the moment? I'm not being shitty but this statement would make me think twice about spending money on what is a bag to carry about a phone, purse, keys, tampons and makeup and whatever kids crap ends up in my bag, crumbs, receipts and bit of crayons!!

enoughforme · 27/07/2021 23:08

For that budget try bottega arco tote / they've just bought out a new one which is the small version absolutely beautiful around £1600

youdoyoutoday · 27/07/2021 23:10

And I was almost drooling over the LV neverfull the other day whilst stuck in traffic watching the woman crossing the road with one! It was beautiful!! But I'll wait as I have a 2 and 7 year old!! I don't want it filled with kids crap!

I have a cheap hand bag and a tote bag for kids crap!!

@Nextchapterofmybook Loving that site, wonder if they deliver outside of the U.K.

Balenciaga are nice, lovely soft leather (depending on what you get).
I’ve got a Classic Velo and you can fit soooo much in it!

Nextchapterofmybook · 27/07/2021 23:12

Chloe Darryl I think :)

Olliphant · 27/07/2021 23:12

Aspinal?

Ghosttile · 27/07/2021 23:13

You might want to ask MN to move this to style & beauty.

And not Mulberry. They’re so dull.

jessieb90 · 27/07/2021 23:13

Oh definitely a mulberry! They are gorgeous, great quality and will last a lifetime of looked after propely!

Shushimwatchingemmerdale · 27/07/2021 23:14

@youdoyoutoday It’s money I’ve been given, which would normally be spent on other crap, but have decided to treat myself..for once. My personal budget to myself of what I deem ok, before feeling guilty is that, if that makes sense 🤣
I’m ok with it having some daily crap in it but will have to work harder to keep it in a nicer state than all my normal bags

A second hand Chanel

Houseofvelour · 27/07/2021 23:15

My favourite bag is a Ralph Lauren tote. Was only £100 on sale and it's great for everyday use.

countdowntonap · 27/07/2021 23:15

A Chloe Marcie, or Chloe Daria.
Both beautiful bags.

Flowers500 · 27/07/2021 23:16

Chloe? www.chloe.com/gb/tote-bag_cod45543969ef.html

Loewe? Maybe second hand or in sales?

Gilly12345 · 27/07/2021 23:24

Go for it if you can afford it, however I would save up for it and not purchase on a credit card. Treat yourself, we are only here once.

Shushimwatchingemmerdale · 27/07/2021 23:25

The closest I’m liking so far is probably the Balenciaga @Propercrimbo2020 Just seen a nice suede one 🤔would love brown leather rather than black though..all seem to be black..or is brown a no go now 🤷🏻‍♀️

Shushimwatchingemmerdale · 27/07/2021 23:26

@Flowers500 Nice, but still too sort of structured?

Thoughts on Prada? Or Gucci but not the obvious print?
Chanel beautiful, but too pricey I think

1.5k is 3.5 times what i paid for my car so that's a fair budget for a bag. Grin

Its all relative i guess. I used to hanker after a mulberry bag but it just doesnt fit with my lifestyle/job etc. I would love a lovely bag though so interested to see what ideas are here.

1.5k should buy you sonething lovely, id be looking for something individual rather than "designer".
