Would a £50 McDonalds voucher encourage people to have the jab?

KhalliWhalli · 25/07/2021 18:46

This is my colleague’s proposed solution to the issue of anti-vaxxers and others who don’t want to have the jab. He figures that as these people are generally of low intelligence, they fit the demographic of people who eat McDonald’s. Ergo if you bribe them with a £50 McDonald’s voucher at the time of vaccination, you would have hordes of people turning up for their jab.

He has a professional interest in this, so I have given it a bit more thought than I would usually.

I dunno, what do you guys think?

I think it would hit a certain demographic

And I don't care if it gets us over the 90%

Pingued · 25/07/2021 18:49
  1. insulting
  2. how do you spend £50 in mcdonalds?
Noterook · 25/07/2021 18:49

Probably, sadly. America did some wild incentives to encourage people to be jabbed, I'll leave you to Google as the first time I read about it I thought it was a joke, and you'll probably think I'm pulling your leg!

Iggly · 25/07/2021 18:49

Whoever suggested this is pretty narrow minded.

Nameswaptime · 25/07/2021 18:50

Absolutely it would sway some people.

Noterook · 25/07/2021 18:50

Although his comment about low intelligence meaning they don't get jabbed but like mc Donald's is disgraceful.

KhalliWhalli · 25/07/2021 18:51

McJab Grin.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/07/2021 18:51

If they offered £50 of John Lewis vouchers it would also encourage people

It's not a BAD thing 🤷‍♀️

Crunchymum · 25/07/2021 18:51

So people who eat McDonald's are of low intelligence? Alrighty then!!

Thingsthatgo · 25/07/2021 18:52

Wow! That is really depressing. I don’t agree with anti vaxxers, but I’d hope at least that their reasons for not having it would be more important to them than £50 worth of nuggets and fries.

Macncheeseballs · 25/07/2021 18:52

I'd do it for a macdonalds voucher, bring it on, although I've already done it

HOkieCOkie · 25/07/2021 18:52

I’ve had it but no that wouldn’t make me want it! Considering a McDonalds costs about 5 pounds lol

Pingued · 25/07/2021 18:52

Just give £50 of cash

KhalliWhalli · 25/07/2021 18:53

Under the McJab Programme, you can use your £50 whenever you like. It would be like a Gift Card.

OP posts:
Pingued · 25/07/2021 18:53

But you'd have to give it to everyone who's had it already too

SchrodingersImmigrant · 25/07/2021 18:54

@KhalliWhalli

McJab Grin.
😂😂 Lovin' it

Ona swrious note. 50😱 Could probs buy actual shop for that😂

allthestripeys · 25/07/2021 18:54

I wouldn't take the 50 voucher for McDonald's as a giveaway for nothing never mind for not getting the vaccine. I have been educated to masters level and I have two degrees. Oh and I work in pharmaceuticals. I have opted not to get it...I know doctors, nurses and several well educated ppl who have not/will not be having the vaccine.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 25/07/2021 18:55

I'm having my second jab tomorrow and would happily accept a voucher for pretty much anywhere.
It would take time to buy 50 mcflurries though...
(Although I did nearly faint at the price of 3 mcdonalds meals at a service station a few months ago... just wanted something that was quick and easy to eat in the car!)

Waspsarearseholes · 25/07/2021 18:55

Sure. Only thick anti-vaxxers eat McDonald's. And every thick anti-vaxxer likes McDonald's. What could possibly be wrong with his theory?! I am almost aggressively pro-vaccine. I am also highly educated and I eat the odd Macca's. How do I fit into your friend's very narrow-minded demography theory?

Thedogscollar · 25/07/2021 18:55

Insulting, condescending and patronising. That's what I think and I'm NHS and double vaccinated.

Kanaloa · 25/07/2021 18:55

Yeah, they’re so stupid all of them. Maybe you could leave a trail of maccies vouchers along the housing estate leading to Mac Donald’s, but instead of a Big Mac lean over and quickly jab the thickos as they enter. Those stupid anti vaccine Mac Donald’s gobblers.

VanGoSunflowers · 25/07/2021 18:55

He is wrong to say that people who don’t get jabbed are of low intelligence. He is also wrong to insinuate that people of low intelligence would also be more likely to chose to eat at McDonald’s. Both are sweeping generalisations.

He is not wrong to say that offering this incentive would lead to more people getting jabbed, of course it would. But he could have been far less scathing by simply stating that ‘incentives could be offered to increase vaccine uptake’

AlCalavicci · 25/07/2021 18:56

It certainly would sway some people.
But to call people that eat in McDonalds low intelligence is insulting and unless your friend has spent the past few months going round all the Mds in the country giving everyone IQ / Mensa test he his making up stats which makes him of low intelligence

VanGoSunflowers · 25/07/2021 18:57

Besides, I’d feel well put out as I’m already jabbed and I’d want my voucher! Grin

TheStarbucksMermaid · 25/07/2021 18:57

Your colleague is a bigoted idiot.
