Would a £50 McDonalds voucher encourage people to have the jab?

KhalliWhalli · 25/07/2021 18:46

This is my colleague’s proposed solution to the issue of anti-vaxxers and others who don’t want to have the jab. He figures that as these people are generally of low intelligence, they fit the demographic of people who eat McDonald’s. Ergo if you bribe them with a £50 McDonald’s voucher at the time of vaccination, you would have hordes of people turning up for their jab.

He has a professional interest in this, so I have given it a bit more thought than I would usually.

I dunno, what do you guys think?

Is it really your colleague who came up with the idea because your replies sound like you're the one with all the ideas? Whoever came up with it is an idiot

There is definitely no "colleague". It's the classic "asking for a friend" nonsense... deliberately goady and pointless thread.

AMCoffeePMWine · 27/07/2021 04:28

My son works in a restaurant, we live in the US, west coast. His workplace offered a $25 incentive to employees. Those already done got theirs immediately, and suddenly almost everyone else got their pokes.

I was amazed it worked so well, as its not like a $500 bonus or anything life changing. But it is just over most employees hourly pay, and at this point, I’d say whatever works.

KhalliWhalli · 27/07/2021 05:54

@feelingmehtoday I thought you were leaving the thread?

I don’t share my colleague’s views although as a social scientist who has studied coercion, I think it would work.

I don’t think we should be pandering to people anymore. Everyone knows the risks. Either have the jab or don’t.

My friend in NYC was given a donut after each jab 😂 she remarked that she was sure some people were only attending for the free food... but if it gets them vaccinated then who cares?

"Rewards" for vaccinations is being practiced in a lot of places

Moongazingbare · 27/07/2021 09:45

The few I know who are anti vaxx are anti McDonald’s - they are vegans, and big on natural health.

What’s funny is a lot of them smoke and are ex drug user!

allthestripeys · 27/07/2021 11:29

@Moongazingbare why is that funny?Hmm

Bring healthy and battling an addiction can go hand in hand!

NotMyCat · 27/07/2021 13:51

I think people who haven't ever been really unwell or take medication are less likely to take it as well
I started a medication that needs 2hrs monitoring after injection as there's such a high risk of anaphylaxis, and it also increases my risk of cancer slightly. Yet I still choose to inject it

Same with my other medication, once a week I inject myself with a drug that gives me a temperature, uncontrollable shivering, headache, bone pain, fainting... so the side effects from AZ were basically the same but less severe

By the time I've taken that lot, a vaccine was a bit "meh, needs to be done"

Because they weren’t battling an addiction
They revel in it

There are 2 anti vaxxers I've just remembered I know and they're definitely PRO McDonalds.

Moongazingbare · 28/07/2021 09:49

I’m pro Mac Donald’s and pro vaccines. I’d support a £50 voucher (so long as I didn’t have to spend it all in one go) Grin

KhalliWhalli · 28/07/2021 10:50

@Moongazingbare LOL @ ‘Pro McDonalds’ Grin.

Same here

KhalliWhalli · 28/07/2021 11:16

And me. I’m vegan and their Spicy Wraps are delicious! I could buy about 10 of them with my McJab voucher.

I'm sitting at McDonalds Drive Thru as we speak. This thread popped into my mindGrin

@isadoradancing123

Nothing is an incentive for people who are genuinely scared of blood clots or long term effects
The irony that this is more likely to happen if they catch covid 😂
Bluesheep8 · 28/07/2021 16:24

Ah but are you pro or anti vaccine?
And is the mind it popped into educated or not? Grin

😂

Pro vaccine but highly needle phobic.
And I've been to uni 3 times, most recently to do a PhD. So I think I'm educated. However, if this thread is to be believed, that doesn't mean I'm in any way intelligent. So who knows 🤷‍♀️

All I know is, I was craving a cheeseburger and chips Grin

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 02/08/2021 00:05

Young people will be offered discounted takeaways and car travel to get their Covid jabs in a bid to boost vaccine uptake, the government has said

Food delivery and ride-hailing firms including Uber, Bolt and Deliveroo will offer incentives to people to get vaccinated

Well, it's starting!

KhalliWhalli · 04/08/2021 02:34

@JesusIsAnyNameFree My colleague will be thrilled 😁 !

If your colleague thinks that a £50 McDonalds voucher will persuade people to change their mind about vaccines then he is being ridiculous. I haven't had any COVID jabs and have never had COVID despite being exposed a good number of times to it. I am not of low intelligence and out of the people I know that are against vaccines or specifically the COVID vaccine are actually quite an intelligent bunch. It isn't down to intelligence levels and many of us (that I know anyway) don't eat in McDonalds anyway.

00100001 · 17/04/2023 18:12

You're a year and a half too late to the conversation.

Big Al strikes again.

00100001 · 17/04/2023 18:14

And you're the type of person that believes the bloke in the pub that tells you his mates cousin was once in a car accident and wasn't wearing a seatbelt, and the fire brigade told him he would have died if was wearing it, so now Johnny never wears a seatbelt and he's alright!!

Roundandnour · 18/04/2023 19:37

Did this ever get rolled out? I forget.
