Someone has parked over my H bar and blocked my car in ...

Earlier this year, I had an H bar painted across my dropped kerb because people kept parking over the edge of the dropped bit, meaning I couldn't get in or out of my drive (the drive is narrow and at an angle on a very narrow street with cars parked opposite).

So far, it's pretty much done the trick. But today I went out for an hour and came back and someone has parked a good foot or so over the end of it, meaning that I can't get my car off the driveway. Unfortunately for them, I was not using the vehicle which was (and still is) parked on the drive, but another one. :)

So I've parked across the rest of my H bar. There's now enough room between my front bumper and their rear one to get a matchbox in. There's about a foot between them and the car parked in front of them.

Today is my last day at work for 2 weeks. Do you think I should have an early glass of wine to celebrate? Grin

@Biancadelrioisback

They'll be able to get out with a bit of manoeuvring thought if they have a foot in front won't they? Can you find the owner of the car in front and ask them to reverse a bit?
Only with a 3748 point turn?!
soooooooG · 23/07/2021 15:51

Won't they just drive away?

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 23/07/2021 15:51

Yes! Love a good parking thread on a Friday afternoon 😁

Please deny all knowledge of your 2nd car when they come knocking!!!

noctu · 23/07/2021 15:52

Any idea whose car it is? Neighbour's visitor maybe? (Could you get away with pretending your car in the road isn't yours, or will they know?)

Crockof · 23/07/2021 15:52

@Sparklingbrook

Why does there need to be a diagram? It’s fairly straightforward.
Did you not read the T&Cs when you signed up?

Parking thread - diagram

'Tis the rules.

BlackeyedSusan · 23/07/2021 15:52

Presumably because most of the length of op's car is not parked over the H bar but adjacent to a hedge/wall/fence/moat/ha-ha which can not be driven through and the bit that is accessible is less than the width of the car.

ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 23/07/2021 15:53

Yaaaass a parking thread for a Friday afternoon. Cough diagram cough.

ChunkySloth · 23/07/2021 15:53

I'd deny all knowledge too.

CarnationCat · 23/07/2021 15:53

Ahhhh good on you.

Sparklingbrook · 23/07/2021 15:55

I signed up a long long time ago @Crockof probably before the diagram rules were made or maybe the flurry of parking threads. Grin
But TBF I have the whole straightforward situation pictured in my brain ready for the next instalment here.

MollyVolley · 23/07/2021 15:55

Yay to diagram & am not in the UK and we don't have H bars so would appreciate a visual aid Grin

memberofthewedding · 23/07/2021 15:56

Popcorn thread. Love em! People who park thoughlessly overnight in front of my house often find that their paint is not quite so pristine next day.

WatfordGap · 23/07/2021 15:56

@lifeinlimbo2020

Trouble is a foot in front is enough for them to get out. Do you know who the car In front of them is so you can ask them to get in a bit closer?
Maybe it's not actually a foot. I might pretend I'm going to the postbox and have a look.

It's my neighbour who is parked in front of them, but we don't really get on unfortunately.

@Dithercats- I paid my local council £300. They sent a guy round to take a look who agreed I could get it done and then Highways painting turned up one day and painted it.

I will do a diagram. I might get some coloured pens out Smile

Is the diagram here yet?

readytosell · 23/07/2021 15:57

Love it!

And learned something new, never knew it was called a H bar!

cumulonimbus523 · 23/07/2021 15:57

Thrilling, the first time I've got to a parking thread this early on. The weekend has well and truly begun Grin

giletrouge · 23/07/2021 15:57

@Sparklingbrook well if you can picture it, we'd LOVE to see your version in a diagrammatic form, TBH.

I’m at the pub. I have no equipment. Grin

My lovely baby is having a little nap and now I’ve just found this parking thread. I really don’t think life can get much better than this.
I might have a little snooze myself while I can and come back later to see if OP has found the coloured pens and if there is any news on the parking front. 😂
