Someone has parked over my H bar and blocked my car in ...

Earlier this year, I had an H bar painted across my dropped kerb because people kept parking over the edge of the dropped bit, meaning I couldn't get in or out of my drive (the drive is narrow and at an angle on a very narrow street with cars parked opposite).

So far, it's pretty much done the trick. But today I went out for an hour and came back and someone has parked a good foot or so over the end of it, meaning that I can't get my car off the driveway. Unfortunately for them, I was not using the vehicle which was (and still is) parked on the drive, but another one. :)

So I've parked across the rest of my H bar. There's now enough room between my front bumper and their rear one to get a matchbox in. There's about a foot between them and the car parked in front of them.

Today is my last day at work for 2 weeks. Do you think I should have an early glass of wine to celebrate? Grin

I can see it now I've refreshed the page. Excellent diagram, OP.

WatfordGap · 23/07/2021 16:27

You can't see either diagram @Sparklingbrook? Do I have to host it or something? It's not very exciting! Grin

Right I can now. Grin
It’s exactly how I envisaged it except possibly a bit busier.

Howshouldibehave · 23/07/2021 16:29

Excellent diagram!

bellabasset · 23/07/2021 16:29

I can see diagram, enjoy your wine Wine

This already excellent thread has been made even better with that diagram OP. I couldn't see it at first and was quite disappointed so thank you for reposting.

crowsfeet57 · 23/07/2021 16:29

WatfordGap how do you get the H bar done?
Constant problems here with neighbours parking over the dips in my dropped kurbs hmm....causes me hassle getting my (unreasonably large) vehicle off my drive
Though I drive it for a disabled child so it's large for a reason 🙄

Your local council should do it. Mine don't any more so I can't get one, but neighbouring councils do.

DysmalRadius · 23/07/2021 16:30

Not sure how much your diagram is to scale OP, but full-on applause for the parallel parking job you seem to have done!

beastlyslumber · 23/07/2021 16:30

Brilliant, brilliant diagram! I especially like the colour key and the "blameless cars"! Well done, OP!

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 23/07/2021 16:30

Bravo on the diagram, OP. ‘Blameless Cars’ is my new band name 😁

giletrouge · 23/07/2021 16:30

Fab diagram.
Love the idea of blameless cars. Halo

Soubriquet · 23/07/2021 16:31

I can’t see diagram Sad

Watford - yeah I get that you don't want to be the bigger person .

If you've parked one of your cars in the road outside your house ,is it really a big inconvenience that you can't get the other one off the driveway right now ?

Personally I see greater merit in front gardens with plants than taking a car/s parking space off the road .But as you're thinking of others in this unselfish act of allowing more space to park cars on the road why not extend that to allowing this car to park ?

If you know that this person is going to park there again why not speak to them/leave a note explaining that you need the driveway to be kept clear at all times ?

Soubriquet · 23/07/2021 16:32

Oh no wait now I can Grin

Lovely diagram. Very neat

because that's no fun

The last parking thread where the rogue car was absolutely and completely blocked in by the OP and unable to move, the OP turned their back for a minute and missed them somehow getting out. Shock

starfish4 · 23/07/2021 16:34

Brilliant diagram!

Samcro · 23/07/2021 16:34

"blameless cars" love it

RIPWalter · 23/07/2021 16:35

Someone parked in our private layby, my DH blocked in the front of the van, I then came home after a 12 hour shift, reversed parked into the tiny space left and edged up close to the rear of the van, but due to tiredness lacked OP commitment of a "matchbox" size space.

Overnight it snowed!

Next morning we could hear the van revving backwards and forwards, then silence, then more movement for about half an hour. I wouldn't let my DH go downstairs as the house still looked asleep and I didn't want the driver seeing movement and expecting us to move the cars. The driver did eventually manage to free the van in a hundred point manourvre.

The many many tyre tracks in the snow and the foot prints to and from the front door (where he obviously thought better of knocking at that time in the morning) were very satisfying.

Imablamelesscar · 23/07/2021 16:35

Hello there folks. It's pretty exciting round here, but I'm not involved, not at all. (Note new username - stating the obvious). Grin

MrSnowmansCarrotStickNose · 23/07/2021 16:37

@WatfordGap didn't you say earlier that you had an audio book to listen too out the back whilst drinking your wine?

starfish4 · 23/07/2021 16:38

Dare I ask if there are any traffic cones in the roadGrin? Anyone know what I'm thinking? Sorry, I better behave myself.

EastWestWhosBest · 23/07/2021 16:40

Are you allowed to park on an H bar though? Even if it’s is your drive it’s keeping clear?

whatkindofdaughter · 23/07/2021 16:41

I think a lot of people do not know what an H bar is. (I've never heard of it but I DO know what you mean.)

I----I

Yes?

There are plenty where I live outside the school etc and no ones takes a blind bit of notice.
