Someone has parked over my H bar and blocked my car in ...

Earlier this year, I had an H bar painted across my dropped kerb because people kept parking over the edge of the dropped bit, meaning I couldn't get in or out of my drive (the drive is narrow and at an angle on a very narrow street with cars parked opposite).

So far, it's pretty much done the trick. But today I went out for an hour and came back and someone has parked a good foot or so over the end of it, meaning that I can't get my car off the driveway. Unfortunately for them, I was not using the vehicle which was (and still is) parked on the drive, but another one. :)

So I've parked across the rest of my H bar. There's now enough room between my front bumper and their rear one to get a matchbox in. There's about a foot between them and the car parked in front of them.

Today is my last day at work for 2 weeks. Do you think I should have an early glass of wine to celebrate? Grin

There's always one tedious prick on these threads who pretends they wouldn't care about being blocked in/out and posts dozens of sanctimonious messages about how much better they are than the OP. Then a few others pop up to defend the point of view... almost like sockpuppets...

WatfordGap · 24/07/2021 23:54

@AnnaBellaCruella

OP you seem very immature
I'm still a bloody great driver Smile

You’re not impressing anyone by your pointless questioning, nor are you achieving anything other than to make yourself look and sound like a prat. It’s over now and the parking issue has been resolved.

What a shame OP.
How inconsiderate of neighbour. Grin

AnnaBellaCruella ? Oh yes we meet again. I'm on her thread.

peridito · 25/07/2021 08:55

Just thought I'd pop back on to say that I didn't find @user1471447863's post pointless .

Especially as it resulted in the OP giving more detail .IME it's always helpful to have details if someone is asking whether they've been unreasonable .

And I'm sure my post is helpful as it will provide an opportunity for many to vent more ire. Which seems to be a high priority on this thread .

MaMelon · 25/07/2021 09:12

I think you flatter yourself perdito

Why do you feel the need to flatter yourself?

BananasAboutBananas · 25/07/2021 09:23

@imtheglue OP didn't post a picture of her H bar?

user1471447863 · 25/07/2021 09:30

And @WatfordGap I could say similarly immature things about you but I'm bigger than that #bekind
Thanks for the drip feed of that rather important bit of info and clearing up that it wasn't the case that people had parked leaving not enough space for a Fiat 500 (the original one) to squeeze through but that you couldn't get a long wheelbase van with the turning circle of an oil tanker off the drive.
I'd still say you would be better reversing in and driving out simply on the basis that the end that does the manoeuvring (the front obviously) are not constrained by the limited width of your driveway - and it is massively safer, reversing camera or not

Sparklingbrook · 25/07/2021 09:31

@imtheglue

I’m a bit late to the party but the picture of OP’s H bar is the exact image as this one

It’s actually the first one that comes up when you put the image into Google image search…

That wasn't the OP. That was me. Confused Using the first one that comes up in a Google image search...

Because posters were saying they didn't know what an H bar was, much like the offending car owner.

pam290358 · 25/07/2021 09:32

User1471447863. If you have a look at the RAC website and various council ones, it’s quite clear that the sloped kerb IS part of the dropped kerb. Drivers are only fined for parking across a dropped kerb in response to a complaint from the owner of the driveway, but drivers CAN also be fined if any part of the vehicle rests on the sloped kerbstone - construed as blocking full access and visibility on exiting the driveway. Same applies to dropped kerbs for wheelchair users - the sloped kerb must be left free.

pam290358 · 25/07/2021 09:34

If you are reversing out then yes it will be more difficult with tightly parked cars but you shouldn't be reversing out into a road.

So you have to reverse into your driveway in order to drive straight out, which can be just as hazardous. I live off a busy main road and it would be impossible at most times of the day.

peridito · 25/07/2021 10:06

@MaMelon why do you feel the need to ask ?

Tomasinabombadil · 25/07/2021 10:06

@30degreesandmeltinghere

Print off a fake pcn notice...
H bar markings are white lines which are marked on the road across a dropped kerb. The lines highlight to other road users that they shouldn't block access to off-road parking areas, such as driveways and garages. H bar markings are advisory lines for other road users and it's not illegal to park on them.☹️

But it IS illegal to park across a dropped kerb - ergo if it has a white H bar, you can’t park on it, although it’s usually only enforced if the owner of the driveway complains. The dropped kerbs for wheelchair users in our local high street are also marked with H bars and it’s £100 fine for blocking access.

Sparklingbrook · 25/07/2021 10:32

It has highlighted my laziness in searching for images on Google. I should have browsed the H bar pictures and chosen the fourth or fifth. Just to be sure. Grin
