The vile Dawn Foster tweets ffs. But he seems Teflon coated. He will never be cancelled. Three fucking columns a week … a pissing radio show, albeit on Times Radio, which surely no one listens to. I would love to be proved wrong. Absolutely love to be.

People CANNOT HELP THEIR HEIGHT whether they are tall, small or somewhere in between

I agree. Disgusting prejudice

mustlovegin · 23/07/2021 23:44

What if Banksy did it?

Many would paint over it. Graffiti is vile

mustlovegin · 23/07/2021 23:49

In case anyone else wants to make a complaint to the BBC

A dog with a bone. Odd

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/07/2021 00:42

Thanks for the link @MissLucyEyelesbarrow, I hope you don't mind that I post it again. brokenbottleboy.substack.com/p/the-subtweet-and-unsackable-giles

I helped me make the difficult decision to stop buying the Times.Sad I don't subscribe, so can't flounce properly. I buy a paper copy 3-4 times a week from the newsagents. It's been coming for a while and the Ick Factor has become too great. Sad

I'm going to miss it. I'm going to miss the columnists who made me laugh and think and told me all sorts of useless useful stuff.GrinSadSadSad

@mustlovegin

As a license payer I’m entitled to complain to the BBC, just like I am to cancel my subscription to The Times. Sorry. Not sorry.

tomorrowalready · 24/07/2021 07:34

Wouldn't Giles Coren be a self employed freelance anyway? I have not watched any of the recent spate of money worshipping programmes (others as well as his) but have seen the Back In Time and last year an art series were the premiss was to detect a fake version of a famous artists work in an art gallery. Channel 4 or 5 I think. I was not going to watch as I already despised him for reasons others have given also because of his stated disgust with the fat like me. And his snobbery. So the art programme was bearable because he was out spot lighted bu the artists, curators and the general public contributors. But I did wonder how he actually related to many of those taking part who as part of the programme talked about how they got interested in art and many were from working class backgrounds and some even overweight. In what was shown he was polite and showbiz sincere.

This thread is quite an interesting demonstration of how SM "cancellation" happens.

Yes. It’s called voting with your feet. My Times subscription will be cancelled today. I too will miss it, particularly at the weekend and on Wednesdays but it’s the only way to make it understand.
RaquelOak · 24/07/2021 08:38

@Bryonyshcmyony I don’t for a minute think Giles Coren is going to get cancelled. Do you? I’m sure there will always be a job for him, and people like him, on GB News.

Bryonyshcmyony · 24/07/2021 08:49

No, sorry if I wasn't clear
I don't think for a second he'll be cancelled
I think this thread has demonstrated how people on SM try and make it happen.

The language used and the dogged picking apart of his family, friends and physical appearance is very similar to that used by TRAs etc on Twitter.

Whether you think GC is a twat or not its very interesting

Bryonyshcmyony · 24/07/2021 08:51

The Times readership/commenters will be supportive of him I would have thought, they don't tend to like graffiti/left wing women (one of the reasons I cancelled my membership months ago)

Very sinister rather

Will they? Did you register that I’m cancelling my subscription? The Times readership is intelligent and well educated, we’re not talking about the Telegraph or the Mail.
Blossomtoes · 24/07/2021 08:54

Incidentally the wonderful Janice Turner is a left wing woman. I’ll miss her.

Bryonyshcmyony · 24/07/2021 08:58

Have you read the comments lately?! Very few left wing posters and if there are they are shot down as woke warriors

JT is "allowed" because the majority of commenters also don't understand the concept of trans people - I also like JC, and there are some very well informed commenters who follow her, but let's not kid ourselves that the mainly reactionary posters just hate anything to do with gender identity.

Bryonyshcmyony · 24/07/2021 09:00

don't just hate anything..

Constantcrayfish · 24/07/2021 09:00

BTL commenters on every single media site are right wing. I assume it’s a type of keyboard warrior.

Bryonyshcmyony · 24/07/2021 09:02

BTW the account people couldn't have given a shiny shit about my reasons for cancelling so good luck with managing to get even a bleat in about GC between offers of cheaper deals.

Bryonyshcmyony · 24/07/2021 09:02

@Constantcrayfish

Apart from here!
Constantcrayfish · 24/07/2021 09:04

This isn’t a media site, it’s a discussion one.

Bryonyshcmyony · 24/07/2021 09:05

Most newspapers only nick things from here to get their BTL frothing!

Blossomtoes · 24/07/2021 09:10

I’m not going to “bleat” - if ever there was a right wing insult it’s that, you’ve given yourself away completely with that.

It’s not about accounts people giving a shiny shit. The entire point is the Times group seeing a significant drop in subscribers.

Bryonyshcmyony · 24/07/2021 09:13

So you are judging me on my choice of language?

The plot thickens.

They won't care @blossomtoes

Gregwiggle · 24/07/2021 09:19

I know who Giles Coren is but I don't read The Times or go on Twitter so have no idea what any of this is about (especially as there are only descriptions of the tweet he posted).

(Actually, like the OP I do go on Twitter for work sometimes on a separate account, but all the tweets are - deliberately - work-related).

If you are "over" privileged or any type of journalism just don't read it. I don't agree with 'cancel culture' otherwise.

Orf1abc · 24/07/2021 09:30

This thread is quite an interesting demonstration of how SM "cancellation" happens.

"Cancellation" happens through demand for the person falling. A key feature of a capitalist economy.
