… to ask why Giles Coren hasn’t been cancelled yet?

The vile Dawn Foster tweets ffs. But he seems Teflon coated. He will never be cancelled. Three fucking columns a week … a pissing radio show, albeit on Times Radio, which surely no one listens to. I would love to be proved wrong. Absolutely love to be.

The working class aspect is important as it is an example of Giles Coren "punching down". By attacking her in death he showed that there is no level to which he won't stoop in order to punch down.

The time to retaliate🙄 to the tweet was over 2 years ago. Surely a wordsmith as OK as Giles Coren could have dashed that tweet with a witty, withering riposte within minutes. Or hours. Or maybe days.

But no. He waits for more than two and a half years and when Dawn Foster dies, he posts a disgusting tweet to 1/4million people denigrating her and rejoicing in her death.

Then he deletes it and posts a second draft.🤯
@ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff I agree with you. Child pornography is way worse than being icky and unseemly. Bad choice of words. I don’t know the circumstances in her choosing him over her daughter. But I don’t think she should be deplatformed on the basis of what her husband has done.
It's not what her husband has done. It's what she has done. Or failed to do in my eyes.

Constantcrayfish · 22/07/2021 16:35

India Knight unimpressed me when the news of his conviction broke, and she rallied all her many Twitter friends around to talk about what a total non-story it was, and to assure her followers that she was absolutely fine.

It showed no respect at all for the fact that children had been seriously harmed.

If she wants to stay with him and, apparently, rip her family apart, then that's her choice. But don't behave like that on social media. Don't dismiss or minimise the pain he caused to others. Keep quiet.

longwayoff · 22/07/2021 16:39

Ha ha haGrin who's going to write the opinion pieces on nepotism in the media? Sarah Vine ? Rachel or Stanley Johnson? a Lawson? a Gill? Toby Young? Who's your favoured connected writer? Many more to choose from.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 22/07/2021 16:41

by telling her to burn in hell after her death at the age of 33?

Not even telling her

Telling her family and friends….

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 22/07/2021 16:45

@Constantcrayfish

He's a grown man, and a parent. I'd have thought however hurt he was years ago he could demonstrate an element of self-restraint.
He’s obviously very very very sensitive 😳
HarebrightCedarmoon · 22/07/2021 16:48

I don't know who Dawn Foster is but Giles Coren has always seemed an odiously little twerp from his writing.

SnakeyTakey · 22/07/2021 17:24

@mustlovegin

childish nonsense

Leaving DF aside, as it's insensitive to continue to discuss her IMO, but more in general, do people think that if someone chooses a target and launches a full on attack, the victim will not retaliate (or the attacker should not expect 'consequences' - as so many like to say here)?

What makes one immune to potential retaliation?

Retaliation for making a mild comment that he's got the career he has because of nepotism?

Big brave boy Giles waited until she had died before saying anything so as to cause maximum pain to her friends and family.

And Marina Hyde, whose writing I enjoy, cannot but have benefited from being the daughter of a baronet. Journalism in the UK is a very middle class/upper middle class industry based for many on education and contacts. So for people to say 'what does class have to do with it?', well I'm not sure if they're dense or disingenuous.

This - or as she would say “Sit down”.
longwayoff · 22/07/2021 18:40

Oh Snakey, I just googled Marina Hyde and am aghast that she appears to have had a 6 year affair with, deep breath, Piers Morgan. She's an excellent writer albeit his Lordship's daughter. But. Piers Morgan? Sometimes connections may not help youConfused

Blossomtoes · 22/07/2021 18:44

I love Marina Hyde. I so wish I didn’t know that.

Oh yes, I was [shock[ when I heard that. I wonder if they're still pals or if she just looks at her shoes whenever he's mentioned in company! Grin
LysistrataVickers · 22/07/2021 18:49

Peeps love his self deprecating humour and it helps that his Mrs is in the biz. Although why she didn't get rid after he said she didn't lose weight quick enough after giving birth is anyone's guess money

I think most people wouldn't tweet their "retaliation" just after the person had died, no
Theythinkitsalloveritisnow · 22/07/2021 18:54

@TheAwfuITruth

I think he may need help.

Of the 'put the bottle down Giles' kind.

I've been thinking similar, but more "time to get help with your massive coke habit"

You cannot decide on behalf of the offended the severity of the offence

Poor Giles. The true victim. Even when he victimises himself with anti-semitic sock puppet accounts.

Oh i dunno

I bet dawns family are well past offended

Bearing in mind Dawn didnt get a chance to read the ‘belated’ retaliation

They're all the same. Didn't you realise. Shock jocks of the journalist world

TheHateIsNotGood · 22/07/2021 21:33

When one of Giles' Times colleagues, called Camilla I think, was trumpeting his prowess in one of her columns about a TV Show he appeared in with "someone called Sue", I laughed.

That would be the very popular Sue Perkins that despite all efforts could not make dear little Giles very likeable.

Seems little Camilla and Giles suffer from the same thing - positions and wages that neither have the talent for - nepotism rules as far as these types are concerned.

The big shame is how many actually talented people they've pushed out on their short journeys to their over-elevated and over-compensated positions.

friendlyflicka · 22/07/2021 22:32

It is totally awful to write what he wrote and he obviously worked that out.

His columns are often very funny. I am not part of Victoria's fan club but I listened to her Teenage Diary on R4 and she was such a hard working teenager. Ok, the columns came to her through her father but she really put in the time.

friendlyflicka · 22/07/2021 22:42

Why is ok to be so Shortist about men? If it was about women it would not be excusable. I am not defending Giles Coren but it seems fair game to say short = small penis. I think it is horrible...
