To think freedom from lockdown will be cancelled before Monday

I think there will be backpedalling on the lockdown lifting. Really pessimistic news today. We are being prepared. IMHO.

OP posts:
TheDevils · 13/07/2021 18:37

It won't be cancelled

Turquoisesol · 13/07/2021 18:38

Not sure really, but the hospitalisations look bad. It is wreckless of the government to go ahead with it. But I do think they will struggle to backtrack?

Echobelly · 13/07/2021 18:39

Nope. It should be, but they're determined to push ahead it seems. TBF, the lockdown is lifted to a significant degree already, so not going ahead is hardly returning to lockdown. A bit of a downer if you wanted to have a summer of going to nightclubs, but that's about it.

FindingMeno · 13/07/2021 18:40

I don't watch the news, but I can't see Boris backtracking.
It would take some balls to do that and some common sense.

iamtheoneandonlyyy · 13/07/2021 18:41

Our local schools have all just closed early because of rising cases.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 13/07/2021 18:43

I doubt it.
I think the government have a covid policy now of 'fuck it'

DeflatedGinDrinker · 13/07/2021 18:43

Where I live we have been told to 'try' to not travel out of our area, so as not to spread it, as cases here are so high here

Turquoisesol · 13/07/2021 18:43

It’s like Christmas all over again.

HereComeTheHolidays · 13/07/2021 18:45

Same with my child's school and noe I am the only one in my house not infected with COVID Confused
3cats4poniesandababy · 13/07/2021 18:45

They can cancel all they like, and while yes I may be restricted on places open, I will be cracking on seeing my friends and family and having gatherings. If other people want to stay in more you do you, I'll do me.

WTFisNext · 13/07/2021 18:47

YABU. The new health secretary doesn't appear to understand what "health management" is. However he seems very well versed on what costs him and his sponsors money.

England will get their freedom day then we'll see a certain kind of English tourist kick off when on holiday in Scotland/Wales because face masks will still be required. (Not all English tourists, most are lovely but the gobby gits spoil the overall reputation).

BajanB · 13/07/2021 18:48

Anything is possible with this shitshow of a government. Nothing would surprise me after the last 16 months of back-peddling, incompetence and all out lies. But I get the feeling they will go ahead and the only thing they just might back track on is masks. Scotland are keeping masks and if enough people lock Johnson into a room and spell out why the UK should follow their lead here, it might happen. The amount of staff absences everywhere are really slowing things down dramatically again.

DaisyWaldron · 13/07/2021 18:49

I know more people with Covid at the moment then I did in the period before any of the previous lockdowns. DD's school has closed. Her extra curricular activities have been cancelled because the teachers are isolating. My team at work is affected for the first time . I've stocked up supplies for isolation/illness because it seems extremely likely right now.

I think the government will go ahead, but suspect they might do a panicky retreat after a couple of weeks, at the point where it will have gone on for too long to undo the damage easily. And blame it all on people who didn't use their "common sense" appropriately.

FrownedUpon · 13/07/2021 18:50

Schools here closing early for summer due to high cases. It’s not looking good.

Propagandalf · 13/07/2021 18:50

MNetters, stay away from BBC news and had a word.

19th July isn't being cancelled/

Sapphire387 · 13/07/2021 18:53

Can I ask where you are all located, those of you whose schools are closing? We're in London but haven't heard anything.

Flowerlane · 13/07/2021 18:57

I highly doubt ‘freedom day’ will be cancelled, it would be madness to cancel it after allowing major events to take place recently!

The summer will go ahead as money is needed for the economy, they need people to spend.

Life has to go back to normal. Lockdown should never have gone on this long in the first place.

GirlAloud · 13/07/2021 18:58

No chance. It’s politically impossible.

Tory MPs absolutely would not tolerate it. If Johnson tried to backtrack now, a leadership challenge would be inevitable, probably from someone like Steve Baker.

squiglet111 · 13/07/2021 18:58

They've just said restrictions will be lifted yesterday. Why would decide to cancel now?

After the football and all the leeway football fans were given, no way the rest of us will accept restrictions now. No bloody way

MarshaBradyo · 13/07/2021 19:00

Why? What have you heard

Haven’t listened today

TheDevils · 13/07/2021 19:01

They can cancel all they like, and while yes I may be restricted on places open, I will be cracking on seeing my friends and family and having gatherings. If other people want to stay in more you do you, I'll do me.

Yep. Me too.

MarshaBradyo · 13/07/2021 19:01

People said yesterday wouldn’t be announced

It was but now posters still saying it won’t happen

JovialNickname · 13/07/2021 19:02

Unfortunately, I do too. It's going exactly the same way as Christmas

FourTeaFallOut · 13/07/2021 19:02

No. The move towards fewer restrictions will go ahead but the grave tones about personal responsibility is an arse covering deflection shield.
