To think freedom from lockdown will be cancelled before Monday

I think there will be backpedalling on the lockdown lifting. Really pessimistic news today. We are being prepared. IMHO.

I think it'll go ahead but I give it a week before masks are reinstated for public transport and shops. Scotland have kept the masks and if you want an idea on what Johnson is going to do, have a look at Sturgeon and then wait a week.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 13/07/2021 19:57

@JovialNickname

Unfortunately, I do too. It's going exactly the same way as Christmas
What …that everyone wants to meet up, governments let’s you, everyone does so safety because we don’t want to kill our family’s and then has to go back to the rules?

Sounds exactly like real life. Tighten up hard core , let go, tighten up but not such. Find something new to stress about. Repeat.

Diets, relationships, housework ,everything works on that principle

SlipperyDippery · 13/07/2021 19:57

I thought there was a body of scientific opinion (not unanimous clearly) that said that keeping the current level of restrictions won’t make a huge amount of difference. If we really wanted to get cases down we would have to reintroduce further restrictions. This isn’t on the cards and so it’s considered better to do it when schools are off and the weather is on our side.

That’s what I understand Chris Whitty was saying. Has something changed?

@claralara42

It's not normal though is it?

It's normal for a pandemic, yes.

It's not even close to normal. It's not dramatic to say that NONE of those things were commonplace before. It's not dramatic it's just a fact

It is dramatic to call it Lockdown, when you aren't in any single sense locked down. Yes, it is very dramatic to pretend you are in lockdown when you have the most lax covid regulations in Europe and are getting rid of the few remaining, despite soaring numbers and hospitilsations. It's dramatic and it's stupid and its whiney and childish.

Wtf is normal for a pandemic? It's hardly comparable to any previous pandemics. What a stupid statement.

I haven't personally said it's lockdown. But it's restricted.

Oh and look name-calling. What a surprise. It's funny how everyone who is pro restrictions resorts to name calling when people don't agree.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 13/07/2021 19:59

It's the isolations that are causing so many problems, not the number of cases!

This, and excessive testing requirements throwing up tons of asymptomatic and mild cases in young people. It's not a public health emergency if a million 21 year olds get mild Covid, as long as hospitals don't get overwhelmed.

Once schools close next week it will slow the spread anyway. There's a reason they've waited until the end of term to lift restrictions.

warmfluffytowels · 13/07/2021 19:59

Nobody is saying it's normal, but it's certainly not a lockdown! People are allowed to meet up with family indoors and outdoors, get your hair done, shop, go to gigs, go and see sports matches, go to the cinema...and from Monday, even things like clubs are opening again.

The only thing that's changed for me personally is having to wear a mask in shops. I don't like it, but it's definitely worth doing if I can do all of the above things.

BlatantlyNameChanged · 13/07/2021 19:59

Anyone who is ECV or caring for someone in that category should be financially compensated hugely and told to stay at home

But they not is the issue. ECV people are being told to come back into the office, many of them will need to use public transport to get there, encountering countless other people both in the journey to work and in the course of their work. There is no financial compensation for those who decide to put their health ahead of their job so they have the choice of quit their job and all the financial implications that go alongside or risk serious illness and/or death by going into work. There is no safety net now for the ECV as the government have removed it.

Well lucky you!

Some of us have had repeated isolations for no sodding reasons, wages lost etc.

It's so ignorant to assume it's just about mask wearing.

Florelei · 13/07/2021 20:01

I’m in County Durham but used to live in south Tyneside. It’s terrible in our village at the moment. We have had school closures and at least half of the pubs/restaurants are closed due to Covid.

Many of my school friends are either infected or their children are isolating.

I just don’t think now is the time to be abandoning all distancing and safety measures. It seems crazy to me but I don’t think there will be a u turn unless things go completely to shit.

My thinking now is let’s just get this over with and hope we all come out of the other side.

It is a very high risk strategy.

To date, vaccines have reduced the ratio of hospitalisations to cases by about 80% (which is fantastic news).

However, that does also mean that if we get to 5x the previous peak, we get the same level of hospitalisations (and almost certainly some form of lockdown).

And the doomsday scenario is vaccine breakout by mutation with a very high level of cases already existing in the population. That would not be pretty at all!

We may get away with this, but we might not.

IT's not name calling, it's just a fact. You're still whining about lockdown, months and months after you were last in one. It's fucking annoying, grow up.

It is name calling.

Aw look, again. That's nice. You're covering yourself in glory here.

BlatantlyNameChanged · 13/07/2021 20:03

We may get away with this, but we might not.

Fingers crossed we do get away with it. Everyone I know who is worried about is is worried because of the risk it will all turn to shit.

warmfluffytowels · 13/07/2021 20:05

It's so ignorant to assume it's just about mask wearing.

That's not what I'm assuming at all Confused I'm saying for me, that's the only thing that's not "normal" at the moment. I don't feel like I'm living through a pandemic - life is pretty much back to how it was.

To say we're still in "lockdown" is bullshit. Are things normal for everyone? No, of course not, but it's not a lockdown. I'm sorry you've had issues with isolation and lost wages but millions of people have never had to isolate or even take a COVID test.

Their experiences are just as valid as yours.

This works the other way too doesn’t it. Those who want to keep restrictions whining

And also insulting etc

Not great

I haven't said we're in lockdown.

Their experiences are valid, but that doesn't negate the fucking hell that others have been through.

I've never tested either fwiw it's the constant fucking whole class isolations that are slowly killing me.

FourTeaFallOut · 13/07/2021 20:08

Jesus, this fucking othering is doing my nut in. I don't want to stay at home. I don't want my dc to miss out on school. I don't want our business to go to hell. I don't want to stuck indoors like a goddamned prisoner.

Having good mental health is the one thing that makes living with a chronic illness relatively comfortable and that's in jeopardy stuck indoors despite the fact I have been double jabbed and there is a whole host of medicines that available now that were not around this time last year.

Fine, invite people to shield or advise but we are not some sub-set of the population living without agency that can be bossed around and fucking told what to do like children.

Zotter · 13/07/2021 20:09

@Getyourarseofffthequattro

What do people actually want? If vaccines don't prevent it and people still die what's the alternative? Be restricted forever?
Half of the population not double vaccinated yet. For some the vaccination doesn’t work. It would be sensible to keep masks in crowded indoor areas mandatory and not open nightclubs until all who can be vaccinated are.
warmfluffytowels · 13/07/2021 20:09

I've never tested either fwiw it's the constant fucking whole class isolations that are slowly killing me.

And they suck, but I'm sure they're coming to an end with the latest set of restrictions easing next week, aren't they?

At some point we're going to have to live with this, like we live with millions of other infectious illnesses that have the risk of death. We can't just live in limbo forever.

SlipperyDippery · 13/07/2021 20:10

@Demelza82

It won't be cancelled because of the populist pandering

Stop using the word 'freedom' that belongs to persecuted people not bored, selfish non-resillient first world dullards

It’s this kind of naive fucking idiocy that has allowed tyranny to flourish in the past.

I think the current restrictions are proportionate and support them, but suggesting they aren’t an infringement on people’s freedom is dangerous nonsense. People are so complacent about how hard won and how easily lost freedoms are.

Zotter · 13/07/2021 20:11

And to add above, improve ventilation in schools, other buildings etc

I agree with this. There are so many people whose answer to people’s perfectly valid concerns about safety is to tell them that they should just stay at home if they are worried.

Some people have zero empathy.

Bluntness100 · 13/07/2021 20:11

I think he’d rather chew his foot off than cancel.

No it's August isn't it? If it happens. Can't come bloody soon enough.

I agree. We can't.

Imnothereforthedrama · 13/07/2021 20:13

No it won’t yet they want to unlock fully whilst it’s summer and schools have broken up . It’s possible restrictions will be increased again in the autumn/ winter .
