To think freedom from lockdown will be cancelled before Monday

I think there will be backpedalling on the lockdown lifting. Really pessimistic news today. We are being prepared. IMHO.

@Demelza82

It won't be cancelled because of the populist pandering

Stop using the word 'freedom' that belongs to persecuted people not bored, selfish non-resillient first world dullards

Selfish and non resilient? Are you actually fucking joking?
Unsoliciteddeckpic · 13/07/2021 19:05

It will go ahead.

And then they will start backtracking in september/October-ish.

VikingLady · 13/07/2021 19:07

It's an economic decision. School holidays start on the 19th (or thereabouts) which kicks off 6 weeks of high spending on holidays/staycations, day trips, eating out, softplays for the young families and nightclubs and pubs for older ones, plus a ton of shopping. No way will they stop that.

This 6 weeks is second only to Christmas in terms of spending.

MarshaBradyo · 13/07/2021 19:07

bored, selfish non-resillient

What a crock of shite. You lockdown down forever no one cares what you do.

Americam · 13/07/2021 19:07

@DaisyWaldron

I know more people with Covid at the moment then I did in the period before any of the previous lockdowns. DD's school has closed. Her extra curricular activities have been cancelled because the teachers are isolating. My team at work is affected for the first time . I've stocked up supplies for isolation/illness because it seems extremely likely right now.

I think the government will go ahead, but suspect they might do a panicky retreat after a couple of weeks, at the point where it will have gone on for too long to undo the damage easily. And blame it all on people who didn't use their "common sense" appropriately.

I agree with this.

For the first time, despite me working frontline all the way through (the point being I thought I and my family would’ve succumbed earlier), we now have a household member who has tested positive.

I’ve had both vaccines so hopefully will be ok, but 2 of my dc have only had one, and my youngest hasn’t had any yet (16yr old).

And, also for the first time, I know of several friends who’ve tested positive within the last month or so.

Cooldryplace · 13/07/2021 19:08

I think it will happen as planned. I'm not at all confident about back to school in September though.

quiteathome · 13/07/2021 19:09

It will go ahead. They need the money, and so many people are going on holiday in the UK they will just ignore everything.

Once we get to September I don't know what happens, but maybe they will leave us to it now.

Carrysymons · 13/07/2021 19:09

No. My daughter, along with most of her Uni friends, just had Covid, me and DH who are double vaccinated didn't catch it. The vaccine works (for now) so no need to keep restrictions.
For those vulnerable people who are saying we need to keep restrictions to protect you, I am sorry for your situation but no, life needs to get back to normal for the rest of us.

UrAWizHarry · 13/07/2021 19:11

It won't be cancelled, Boris is too much of a coward for that.

It should be, but it won't.

TableFlowerss · 13/07/2021 19:13

They won’t cancel.

Double jabbed people are still catching Covid though.
TableFlowerss · 13/07/2021 19:16

You can’t prevent every death, otherwise they may as well stop us from driving.

They use a risk assessment and say we must use a seatbelt, as that will give some protection but not in all cases.

People die in cars, but we’re still allowed to drive. Risk level has to be taken in to consideration.

The fact that your and your dh didn't catch isn't definitive proof it works.

It's works differently in different people.

People who are double jabbed are getting it.

ConstanceGracy · 13/07/2021 19:17

It won’t be cancelled .
The government have washed their hands of this now and put the responsibility on us the public so they can blame us for when we get put back into lockdown..which we will come autumn.

Oh this old chestnut ..
Getyourarseofffthequattro · 13/07/2021 19:18

What do people actually want? If vaccines don't prevent it and people still die what's the alternative? Be restricted forever?

DontLookEthel · 13/07/2021 19:19

If loads of workers get sick then businesses, shops, holiday venues etc. won't be functioning at full capacity. So people still might not be able to spend money and boost the economy.

Turquoisesol · 13/07/2021 19:23

People saying what do you actually want if vaccines don’t work will we stay restricted forever? If the vaccines didn’t work it may be the case that society would need to change for the indefinite future. Call it restrictions or call it a new way of running the world but something may need to change to reduce the spread of new variants? Letting “nature” run its course may not be a very good idea.

Rosieposy89 · 13/07/2021 19:23

This is reckless. Scrapping social distancing is unnecessary and will lead to more cases and affect more services. It also completely selfish to do it at a time when younger adults aren't fully vaccinated. It's not just deaths that matter, it's hospital admissions and long covid.

TotorosCatBus · 13/07/2021 19:26

I don't think so. He wants to blame the public when things go tits up.

His MPs won't vote for more restrictions. He needs to save his good will in case their support is needed in the autumn/winter

It's unrealistic to restrict the world forever. I imagine if that was the case large numbers of people would kill themselves. Depression would be through the roof. There is no point in a life like that.
girlmom21 · 13/07/2021 19:27

It won't be cancelled but they've already back-pedalled on the 'irreversible' way out of lockdown and admitted we might 'need' future lockdowns 🤦🏼‍♀️

Carrysymons · 13/07/2021 19:28

Some people who are double jabbed are getting it, many (I would say the vast majority) are not and very few of those who do are ending up in hospital. From those unvaccinated young people I know who have had Covid if they hadn't had a positive test result they wouldn't have known.

The vaccine was always heralded as the only way out of this pandemic yet it seems some people would be happy for these restrictions to continue for ever. I just don't understand that attitude.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 13/07/2021 19:29

@Propagandalf

MNetters, stay away from BBC news and had a word.

19th July isn't being cancelled/

This! Just avoid the BBC and the fool agenda. The first lockdown was maybe just about excusable as there was so much unknown, but now most only is most of the population vaccinated, but there are effective treatments and the fear of the Health Service being overwhelmed has dissolved. Only the media is still clinging desperately to straws (like ‘long covid’ and ‘mutant variants’) to justify their existence.
