For it was The Breakfast Club.

I was the perfect age for it when it came out, mid teens. OMG they GOT me! Their parents were arses too, they understood what it was like. Loved it my whole life.

Watched it again at 40 with teens and just thought "What a bunch of whining little shits" It is now my least favourite film of all time! It should have stayed in my memory as once you are the parent of the "misunderstood" teen you realise what an utter prat you were when you were 15!

I can see what you mean and I agree, to some extent. That said, some parts of that film I absolutely love and they make the annoying bits tolerable!

The only film I've rewatched in horror at my childish adoration of it was 'The Gnome Mobile'. Intensely hideous, sexist shite. I loved it because it was about love, and fairies who all wore beautiful outfits Hmm

Don’t know about never rewatch but certainly saw Rebecca with different eyes. In my teens I thought it was dead romantic. As an adult, felt she got a terrible deal and he was an arse.

I love your name… does the film bear rewatching?

Sparklingbrook · 09/07/2021 21:40

I love St Elmo's Fire I watched it over and over as a teen. Watching as an adult it's completely different. They are all awful in their own way. Billy asking Wendy for sex as a 'going away present' I mean it's Rob Lowe (so why wouldn't you) but still that's terrible. Kirby stalked Dale Bieberman in a most alarming way. Alec was a cheating scumbag and Jules needed help. I guess Lesley was the least worst of the bunch.

Lanique · 09/07/2021 21:41

I saw the Breakfast Club the other day too... and yes I totally agree! Still a great film though.

CrouchEndTiger12 · 09/07/2021 21:43

I don't know.

In the Breakfast Club,

John's father beat him and burned him with cigarettes.

Allison's family ignored her.

Andys dad pushed him so hard at wrestling he nearly broke him.

Brian's family were the same with his grades...pushing him too hard.

Claire's divorced parents used her to piss each other off.

Whining little shits is harsh. Their parents were quite abusive.

Yes, the human caterpillar, no explanation needed.

zombielady · 09/07/2021 21:46

Loved it then, still love it now.

Sparklingbrook · 09/07/2021 21:46

A brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess, and a criminal.

Breakfast Club has some great quotes and the theme tune is the best. Just to defend it a bit. Grin

The human centipede.. Fucking grim.

I wouldn't watch that a first time let alone a rewatch.

I would definitely watch a North Korean version of the Breakfast Club

PyongyangKipperbang · 09/07/2021 21:52

Love the theme song! It was just on Gary Davies Sounds of the 80's which is what made me think of it!

Saturday night fever. Watched it as a teen for the music and dance, it was cool. Watching certain scenes as an adult omg. No wonder it is not shown much these days

I particularly liked The Living Daylights and wondered why it didn’t get shown on TV much. Well it was probably something in Timothy Dalton’s contract, but those plucky Mujahideen helping our hero fight the Russian foe in Afghanistan looked a bit different with the passage of time.

Actually, add most Bond films to the ‘can’t watch now’ list.

Saturday Night Fever is an excellent period piece. It was based on an article about the emergence of disco in the Italian -American working- class neighbourhoods of Brooklyn.

It’s not the light fluff it’s perceived to be. It’s actually pretty grim.

AliceMcK · 09/07/2021 22:07

Watched The Goonies recently and said to DH that it would never be made these days, there would be a huge outcry, but we still loved it, so did our DCs.

StorminaBcup · 09/07/2021 22:08

Dirty dancing.

Used to love it as a teen. Watched it a few years ago and I cringed all the way through it. Jonny flouncing off in every scene and Breathless baby. Such a shame I’m old and cynical now Grin
