For it was The Breakfast Club.

I was the perfect age for it when it came out, mid teens. OMG they GOT me! Their parents were arses too, they understood what it was like. Loved it my whole life.

Watched it again at 40 with teens and just thought "What a bunch of whining little shits" It is now my least favourite film of all time! It should have stayed in my memory as once you are the parent of the "misunderstood" teen you realise what an utter prat you were when you were 15!

Drop dead Fred.

Loved it as a child, would watch it over and over again on video tape. Can’t fault Rik Mayall but I found Elizabeth’s character annoying and woe is me. Yes, her mother was an absolute bell….. and her husband cheated but he blatantly didn’t want her and I found her quite insufferable rewatching as an adult.

I don’t think i’ll watch it again, I wish I had kept it as a nostalgic childhood thing. Elizabeth was infact, a bit of a snot face.

@Noapplejustcrumble

Agree that Ferris Bueller was a bully to his friend. But love the scene in the art gallery.
Ferris was a cunt.

that was one of the strangest things i've ever watched

TheValeyard · 11/07/2021 19:41

Cal was overegged, but as the film progressed showed the escalating tendencies of the abuser quite well.

I thought Billy Zane was great in that role btw - what a big, OTT melodrama needs is a similarly OTT, moustache-twirling villain, and Zane's performance was pitched exactly at that level. You always get the impression he's looking around for a set of train tracks to tie someone to.

FlatteredFool · 11/07/2021 19:46

@PyongyangKipperbang has anyone actually managed to describe the ruckus yet though?

Thewinterofdiscontent · 11/07/2021 19:51

@whynotwhatknot

Flashdance is just sexist crap-one good scene thats it

Cant watch schindlers list again for obvious reasons

To be fair we all only watched Flashdance because we wanted to be that fit. Jennifer Beal made a disgusting high cut leotard look less revolting by being strong and athletic. I still try and channel that look at a size 16 ….
Andylion · 11/07/2021 19:54

I watched Ferris for the first time a couple of years ago, primarily because I had a couple of friends who thought it was a classic . Recently, I have put Breakfast Club on my watchlist for the same reason. However, I think I have probably missed my prime viewing age by 40 years for both movies, (I am in my 50s). I thought Ferris was an ass and found the movie to be really boring.

I have given up rewatching the films I loved growing up! Every time I say to my DD 'this one is great!' and then it's not 😂

Coronawireless · 11/07/2021 23:25

Cocktail is the most ludicrous film ever and I loathe Tom Cruise. So why do I still love it so?

faithfulbird20 · 11/07/2021 23:39

Harry Potter...the last few ones are just tooo long to even watch the first time around..

Same here We told our children a Fish called Wanda was a great film, it isn't. Crockadile Dundee 2 has one funny line, Arthur has a good song but hasn't stood the test of time, the list goes on. Grease they did like though and it has just about stood the test.
Beamur · 11/07/2021 23:52

We watched a Fish called Wanda recently too.
Hasn't aged well! DD was 🙄

strawberryswirl3 · 12/07/2021 00:05

Requiem For A Dream, so bloody depressing

crapatthis1 · 12/07/2021 00:37

Bus 174 - I watched it with 3 friends before a night out. We were so depressed by it we literally sat in this bar nursing our pints in stunned silence. Not sure I could do that again.

Kids - really unsettling

Notebook - cried way too much so not sure I would watch that again

Coco - same as above

Any of the Saw movies - too much gore

The Amytivlle Horror - I did watch it twice not never again. I loved it as kid then as an adult I told my friends how great it was so we watched it. It just looked so fake and no one liked it lol

The dark Crystal - I really don't know why but found it really traumatising and scary as a kid

The never ending story - I could never watch the horse scene again

Water ship down
Animal farm

Yes, ours were like' did you really watch films were they took the piss out of people with a stutter and think saying don't touch his penis was so funny it had to be repeated over and over again' I was embarrassed by the film to be honest and couldn't think why we thought it funny, but we did.
ClareBlue · 12/07/2021 00:44

Groundhog day is worth watching again, and again and again....Grin

whynotwhatknot · 12/07/2021 00:46

I love sausage party-im a bit odd like that though seth rogen cracks me up

cariadlet · 12/07/2021 05:10

I still like A Fish Called Wanda although I don't find it as hilarious as I did when it came out.

I think Ken (the character with a stutter) is played sympathetically. Michael Palin's Dad had a stammer and after the film came out, he agreed to lend his name to a new centre in London which supports children with a stammer. He's supported the centre since it opened.

safclass · 12/07/2021 07:06

I never got this even as a teenager! It has a great soundtrack but the movie was crap. also feel the same for grease / mama mia. Just dont understand the hype!

HBGKC · 12/07/2021 13:23

YY to Requiem for a Dream, @strawberryswirl3 - horrific film 😱

PrincessNutella · 12/07/2021 14:14

four Weddings and a Funeral. What attraction did that American lady have besides her big hat and the fact she had had a lot of sex?

PrincessNutella · 12/07/2021 14:15

Groundhog day gets better with every watching.

PrincessNutella · 12/07/2021 14:18

Manhattan is as creepy AF

TatianaBis · 12/07/2021 16:20

Groundhog Day is like - Groundhog Day. Bill Murray never gets more attractive or Andie MacDowell less wooden.
