For it was The Breakfast Club.

I was the perfect age for it when it came out, mid teens. OMG they GOT me! Their parents were arses too, they understood what it was like. Loved it my whole life.

Watched it again at 40 with teens and just thought "What a bunch of whining little shits" It is now my least favourite film of all time! It should have stayed in my memory as once you are the parent of the "misunderstood" teen you realise what an utter prat you were when you were 15!

Wolf Creek. Scared the shite out of me first time round. Never again!
I still have nightmares about that last scene
MarieIVanArkleStinks · 14/07/2021 09:32

Wolf Creek now that was bloody scary. I didn't even get to the end of the second one, and I'm a hardened lover of the horror genre. Some of the biographical parallels with Ivan Millat/Bradley Murdoch (in the second one) were terrifying. Some of this stuff made Freddy Krueger look like Mary Poppins.

But John Jarratt was fantastic. That laugh!

Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom, a 70's Italian movie. Utterly grim and could barely watch it once let alone consider viewing it again. God knows why it is certified for general release let alone being available in HMV where I got my copy.

I'm not easily shocked and have watched all three Human Centipede films (the third one is quite good) but Salò takes it to a new extreme.

Also A Serbian Film. Do not watch the uncut version. Seriously, under no circumstances should anyone ever watch it. The person who came up with the idea should be locked up in a secure institution. The BBFC-censored version is heavily watered down but still grim.

@TatianaBis

Groundhog Day is like - Groundhog Day. Bill Murray never gets more attractive or Andie MacDowell less wooden.
Noooo. That's one of my favourite films, and I've never understood the hate for Andie MacDowell. I think she's beautiful and talented. Even in Four Weddings!

Rocky

That sex scene is rape
It’s such a grimy film

Another one for Requiem for a Dream. That film gave me Bad Feelings for a long time!

RickiTarr · 14/07/2021 16:00

I’m so pleased to see other people were creeped out by Requiem for a Dream. I only managed 20 or 30 minutes. I feel vindicated now!

A High Wind in Jamaica

As a kid I thought it an exciting adventure film.

As an adult I read the book and realised it was about so much more than the film hinted at but couldn’t capture as they had to sanitise it. If you watch the film as an adult you realise the pirates, while kind to some of the children, actually abused the eldest and got her pregnant.
