For it was The Breakfast Club.

I was the perfect age for it when it came out, mid teens. OMG they GOT me! Their parents were arses too, they understood what it was like. Loved it my whole life.

Watched it again at 40 with teens and just thought "What a bunch of whining little shits" It is now my least favourite film of all time! It should have stayed in my memory as once you are the parent of the "misunderstood" teen you realise what an utter prat you were when you were 15!

Big. It's the relationship in the film. Just a bit creepy. Wonder what that female character thought later on

osbertthesyrianhamster · 09/07/2021 22:08

Lots of them haven't dated well.

princesslarmadrama · 09/07/2021 22:09

My father the hero.

Beamur · 09/07/2021 22:09

Had a nostalgic rewatch of the Breakfast club recently. Wrong now on so many levels!
DH loved High Fidelity, but that would annoy me now.
One film I couldn't watch twice was AI. Too upsetting.

MothershipG · 09/07/2021 22:12

Moulin Rouge

Loved it when it first came out, watched it with DD the other night and cringed at the overblown silliness of it. Although Ewan McGregor is very cute and can hold a tune reasonably well.

I wouldn't watch that again because it was 2 hours too long, boring as hell and had jude law being jude law in itGrin

Films like The Road and Precious I wouldn't watch again because they bothered me a lot after watching them.

I watched loads of horror films in my youth but wouldn't watch them now.

Pretty in Pink hasn’t really aged too well. Blane is a wimp and that kiss at the end is just horrible. She should have stuck with Duckie but personally I thought Steff very easy on the eye. Grin

I was going to say Big. I even got a toy keyboard one Christmas to jump on like in the film. Rewatched as an adult and realised that they heavily hinted that they slept together.
Youdiditanyway · 09/07/2021 22:17

Loved Dirty Dancing when I was about 11/12ish but obviously didn’t understand the connotations behind any of it. I thought her Dad was a controlling prick at the time but now I’m an adult and parent, I think he was trying to protect her and think Swayze’s character was an arsehole.

I agree that the human centipede doesn’t even need watching once Grin, so grim.

For me LOTR is totally pointless. DH would slay me for saying that but it’s literally 3 very long and very tedious films about a ring.

That was the first film I thought of. Loved it as a kid. Rewatched it a few years ago with dd and was horrified.

CoRhona · 09/07/2021 22:18

Fame. I said to early teen DD 'this film is great!'... turned it off pretty quickly, had forgotten the swearing and dark storyline.

not that I care overly about swearing but there was lots and lots of it

slashlover · 09/07/2021 22:20

"Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" when you realise Milly was tricked into marriage because she wasn't told that the other 6 brothers are there. Then they kidnap some women for the winter. Still watch it though.

Nor has 16 Candles.

Yes, Dirty Dancing is an iconic film, but pick it apart and you have teenage girl on a family holiday sleeping with sleazy been around the block older dance instructor. As her parent not sure I'd be happy with that. Baby's Dad should have punched Johnny's lights out really.
MrsOrMiss · 09/07/2021 22:25

Grease, used to love it, watched it 3 times. Introduced my DDs to it when they were 12 - the age I was when I first saw it - it was switched off when the phrase 'sloppy seconds' was mentioned.

My DD1 decided I'd love 'Love Actually' when that came out, she switched it off when the lorn stars were rehearsing.

Lalliella · 09/07/2021 22:26

Doctor Zhivago.

Watched it as a teen - thought it was a romantic love story.

Watched it as an adult - he was a shit who cheated on his wife and didn’t want to help homeless people.

Beamur · 09/07/2021 22:26

I really disliked The Road too, still bothers me if I think about it too.
Sparkingbrook spot on about Pretty in Pink. James Spader was always good at that nonchalant sleazy sexy guy type..

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 09/07/2021 22:26

Pretty in Pink was an eye opener for US living standards … she’s that poor she’s from the wrong side of the tracks … but she has her own (landline) phone in her room and a car, of course

Yes! Watched this again the other day and was so creeped out by all of it Confused
Sparklingbrook · 09/07/2021 22:27

I hate Love Actually about the same as I hate Notting Hill.

Four weddings and a Funeral was great for the first watch. But never wanted to watch again.

Steff was absolutely my type. Blush Blane-not a chance. What a drip.
Fiddliestofsticks · 09/07/2021 22:31

The writer of Dirty Dancing did say that, in her mind, Jonny and Baby married and stayed together.

They are now making a sequel with Jennifer Grey reprising the role but I dont know if it is the same writer so they might have changed that idea. Or maybe it'll be Baby moving on after Johnny's death.

DrSbaitso · 09/07/2021 22:34

We studied A View From the Bridge at school and were encouraged to see all the characters, especially the women, as instrumental and partly to blame for Eddie's weapon level shithousery.

Fuck you, Eddie, you homophobic, misogynistic, lying, racist, controlling bag of shit. Marco is a hero.

That's interesting, I didn't see that at all. I thought Baby would go home/off to college and Johnny (who was still unemployed at the 'Time of My Life' dance?) possibly got his job back and went back to sleeping with those middle aged women that he claimed couldn't help themselves.

A sequel would be horrific. Shock

@CrouchEndTiger12

I don't know.

In the Breakfast Club,

John's father beat him and burned him with cigarettes.

Allison's family ignored her.

Andys dad pushed him so hard at wrestling he nearly broke him.

Brian's family were the same with his grades...pushing him too hard.

Claire's divorced parents used her to piss each other off.

Whining little shits is harsh. Their parents were quite abusive.

I love the Breakfast Club and it makes me cry at the end.
