For it was The Breakfast Club.

I was the perfect age for it when it came out, mid teens. OMG they GOT me! Their parents were arses too, they understood what it was like. Loved it my whole life.

Watched it again at 40 with teens and just thought "What a bunch of whining little shits" It is now my least favourite film of all time! It should have stayed in my memory as once you are the parent of the "misunderstood" teen you realise what an utter prat you were when you were 15!

Ha ha, that’s exactly what I thought when watching it with ds! I had raved about how amazing it was but was so disappointed with it..
Sparklingbrook · 09/07/2021 23:25

@Rummikub

Rita Sue and Bob too Watched it as a teen Now I couldn’t

Any film where you were on the side of the teenager
As a parent I’ve completely switched sides!

How do you feel about Ferris Bueller's Day Off? Grin Bunking off school, driving cars without insurance etc...
Sixsillysausagessizzlinginapan · 09/07/2021 23:25

The Irishman. Don't do it. life's too short.

Quaggars · 09/07/2021 23:26

Yes! Ferris Bueller still great, watched recently and also introduced to 12 year old who loved it too so still passes for younger generation

Quaggars · 09/07/2021 23:27

Although I did feel the need to say don't be getting ideas bunking off lol

LifeinPieces21 · 09/07/2021 23:28

Weird Science 😍 , still think this is funny but I'm sure it is wrong in so many ways. I'm going to get banned from Mumsnet.

Sparklingbrook · 09/07/2021 23:28

But bunking off school? What a dreadful message! Grin Getting your mate to get his Dad's car out even though he didn't want to?

My two love it as well. They also like Wayne's world though.

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 09/07/2021 23:28

@LifeinPieces21 and @Quaggars, phew, thanks

Sparklingbrook · 09/07/2021 23:30

@NomNomNominativeDeterminism

Please could someone confirm that Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is still a good film, or I will be sad.
It's a brilliant film. But Ferris is very naughty and not to be copied. Wink
MrsToothyBitch · 09/07/2021 23:30

Dead Poets Society. Found it slightly schmaltzy/overwrought as a teen but still loved it. Rewatched it as an adult and it was beyond schmaltz. It was pure cheese.

I never watched Breakfast Club or Ferris Bueller at the sort of tender age where the characters might appeal. I really tried to like Breakfast Club but other than the part where they open up a bit and I felt for them, they mostly weren't likeable and Ferris Bueller was a right little shit. I really hoped it would end with him getting arrested.

MrsToothyBitch · 09/07/2021 23:32

DP loves "The Scent of a Woman". Guessing it's a boy thing as I watched it with him and just waited very impatiently for it to end. Al Pacino playing an utter arsehole.

Quaggars · 09/07/2021 23:33

Mine won't even entertain the idea of Wayne's World, they said it sounds lame Hmm Sad
Feel like playing a game with them where I get them to hold up cards saying I am a wiener and saying "a wiener says" to them just to hear them say what Grin
now that's an idea

Want them to like Bill and Ted too. As it's still most bodacious. They won't watch though.
Bogus.

Sparklingbrook · 09/07/2021 23:33

Watching Breakfast Club as a teenager was great. They all seemed so edgy and there was drugs. Shock I thought Molly Ringwald was perfect and she got to snog that bad boy at the end. Envy

Watching as a grown up-what a self obsessed bunch and how old was Judd Nelson playing a school kid? [confused[

Quaggars · 09/07/2021 23:34

But Ferris is very naughty and not to be copied

Grin That's basically what I said before I let mine watch lol
Quaggars · 09/07/2021 23:35

I've never watched Breakfast Club will it have the same appeal if you're a 40 something watching for the first time?! Grin

Rummikub · 09/07/2021 23:35

I still like Ferris Bueller, @Sparklingbrook

But Rita Sue & bob too was distasteful (I’m now a prude😱)

And I’ll add any song that references 17 year old girls now I’m a parent to teenage dds I see them in a different light

WW is sort of lame but they agreed to give it a watch and loved it. I have never seen Bill & Ted it somehow passed me by.
Andante57 · 09/07/2021 23:35

Op do you like South Korean films?
I love K dramas but I would never watch the k films Parasite or Secretly Greatly again - too disturbing.

Quaggars · 09/07/2021 23:37

@sparklingbrook if you like Wayne's World, you'll like Bill and Ted as it's exactly the same sense of humour!
In fact when Wayne's World came out in the 90s and I went to see it at the cinema I commented on how it was just like Bill and Ted lol

DareDevil223 · 09/07/2021 23:39

Ferris Bueller is an awful film. He's a spoilt, selfish, bullying arsehole who treats his supposed best friend like shit. I loved it when it came out - my son watched it when he was a teen and pointed out how dreadful it was and he was right.

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 09/07/2021 23:40

Tentatively- Election is a good film, right? But hard to watch now what with the teacher shagging his pupil being presented as out of order and a sacking offence but not child abuse. He’s still the main characters best friend and your sympathies are not directed towards Tracy.

Sparklingbrook · 09/07/2021 23:41

Even though I think the film's great, have to agree with that - when I watched I thought how much his friend needed to tell him to get lost.
Manipulating him into borrowing his Dad's car, "making him" take the day off as he wanted to pull a sickie etc.
His mate should have told him where to go
