DH is an extremely well educated man.
Today I watched him put ironing water (our tap water is ridiculously hard) into the fabric softener dispenser.
He loathes the dishwasher for some reason maybe that’s the reason he has been known to put the pod things for dishes in the washing machine.

eh?

NotRainingToday · 08/07/2021 15:34

It's better than putting fabric softener into the iron!

Newbie8365 · 08/07/2021 16:08

Hahahah yeah as PP mentioned, better than fabric softner in the iron Grin

justthecat · 08/07/2021 16:10

I discovered my dh cleaning the shower with leather wipes 🙄

Newbie8365 · 08/07/2021 16:18

I have a sponge that I use to only clean the bath with. DH knows this is the 'bath cleaning 'sponge'. Caught him cleaning the dining table with it once Angry

RaindropsOnRosie · 08/07/2021 16:33

DH uses a capful of white vinegar instead of zoflora in our washing. He also regularly runs the dishwasher without a pod.

BIWI · 08/07/2021 16:35

Are these men this hopeless at work as well? Or do they do this 'learned helplessness' only at home?

Aprilx · 08/07/2021 16:37

Ironing water? Fabric softener dispenser? I am obviously doing house chores all wrong as I have no idea.

Bargebill19 · 08/07/2021 16:39

Well that’s made me laugh, Thank you op!

Elisandra · 08/07/2021 16:40

YABU to find this male domestic uselessness remotely amusing. It’s tiresome.

GolfEchoRomeoTangoIndia · 08/07/2021 16:41

Vinegar instead of zoflora is presumably deliberate though.

All automatic washing machines have fabric softener dispensers Aprilx - it’s the drawer in the middle with the little flower on. Don’t use it myself but I know what it’s for.

Bargebill19 · 08/07/2021 16:42

It is tiresome - true.
But after the day I’ve had it’s made me laugh. It’s not the content it’s the way it’s told.

I use vinegar instead of fabric softener, that’s pretty common. Why does washing need disinfectant?
Beamur · 08/07/2021 16:44

My DH would do this as he can't read any labels without his glasses on. I very much doubt he would understand what ironing water is either as he would rather wear crumpled clothing than do any ironing.

Bargebill19 · 08/07/2021 16:47

Ummm why does laundry need fabric softener or vinegar?? I suppose the same applies to disinfectant. Personal preferences I would guess.

Sciurus83 · 08/07/2021 16:48

Vinegar is much better in a wash for everyone and thing concerned than Zoflora

Bargebill19 · 08/07/2021 16:49

Why put in either?

PattyPan · 08/07/2021 16:50

I don’t use a tumble drier so vinegar stops my towels being crispy

owlbethere · 08/07/2021 16:51

The fabric softener drawer on your washing machine??
owlbethere · 08/07/2021 16:51

@Bargebill19

Because some of us have dry skin and/or kids with sensory issues that need soft clothes.
PattyPan · 08/07/2021 16:53

The vinegar also stops the machine getting so scaled up (live in hard water area)

Bouledeneige · 08/07/2021 16:54

Missing the point - as I and my family all have eczema I would never use fabric softener or bio washing liquid. It's extremely bad for the skin.

TwilightSkies · 08/07/2021 16:56

Why put in either?

Because some people like it.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 08/07/2021 16:58

DH once cleaned DS2's bum with scented hand and face wipes. His bum was so red! I'm pretty sure DH thought all wipes were the same.

AutistGoth · 08/07/2021 16:59

I also use white vinegar instead of fabric softener. Cheaper, better for the environment and my clothes don't have a cloying perfume scent. They just smell clean.

I did laugh at this, because it's exactly the kind of thing I would do! I once went to preheat the oven and DH came back to me a few minutes later telling me that I had put the grill on instead (in my defence, the modes aren't actually labelled, you're just expected to instinctively know)! I only use the hob and microwave - I can just about manage those! It isn't necessarily a man thing.
