DH is an extremely well educated man.
Today I watched him put ironing water (our tap water is ridiculously hard) into the fabric softener dispenser.
He loathes the dishwasher for some reason maybe that’s the reason he has been known to put the pod things for dishes in the washing machine.

@custardysergeant
I think they meant he was using the sponge that is used to clean a dirty bath to also wash the children, not a clean one

EKGEMS · 08/07/2021 18:50

Distilled water is ironing water

AmyDudley · 08/07/2021 18:55

I lost my iron in a house move four years ago, and I haven't ironed anything since - it's very liberating, and I don't have to give brain space to stuff like ironing water (whatever that is)

SimonJT · 08/07/2021 19:01

@Ironmanrocks

More to the point people - WHY ARE YOU IRONING???!!!
I agree.

My husband likes things ironed, so I kindly ironed our new bedding, I purposely did a really crap job, so now he has to suffer the pain of creased bedding.

Also, the poster who commented about dishwasher tabs, I generally don’t use them, unless you do a cool wash you really can’t tell.

MrsClatterbuck · 08/07/2021 19:14

Dh ran the dishwasher at 70°. At least everything was well sanitised.

Caught my DH polishing the dining table with a spray can of Raid ant killer.
Hand up in shame. I have done this. I did have a blocked nose and they had the same colour lid. It was only when the children asked what the weird smell was that I looked and realised.
SquirrelFan · 08/07/2021 19:22

My husband once put floor cleaner in the rinse aid compartment of the dishwasher. In his defence, they are both yellow. I ran the dishwasher about ten times to get rid of it!
Also (and this is embarrassing) I once used a Dettol wipe on my bum. I thought it was a packet of toilet wipes! I was very clean...

CoRhona · 08/07/2021 19:27

I used to use Halo from Sainsbury's to get rid of sweat smells in washing.

White vinegar does the job perfectly and is tons cheaper.

Bluesheep8 · 08/07/2021 19:35

Eh? Why are people putting disinfectant in their washing machines? Do you mean when you're washing clothes?Confused

I did the opposite - sprayed a fly with cherry blossom furniture polish. The fly was unaffected, but buffed up a treat Grin

Bargebill19 · 08/07/2021 19:39

Raid for polish! Had a friend who swapped deodorant and glitter hairspray by accident (contact lenses not in). Floppy hair and sparkly pits for the day!

Picklesbaby · 08/07/2021 19:52

Dh did it the other way around . Brown water ruined iron and school uniform

My dad sprayed fly spray in the actifry instead of oil spray. Confused

I suppose at least he realised his mistake before they cooked anything.

AutistGoth · 08/07/2021 19:56

If you use airers instead of tumble drying your clothes, they do tend to need ironing. I only iron outdoor clothes, though. Nothing else. I don't use the tumble dryer because it's expensive and tends to shrink things.

To the person who asked if the vinegar makes your clothes smell (can't remember your username, sorry). No, it honestly doesn't. They just come out feeling clean and without that greasy residue on them. I'd say the closest comparison is that they smell like hotel bedding. A sharp, clean smell.

Staffy1 · 08/07/2021 20:07

My MIL used carpet cleaner to clean the bath.

Bargebill19 · 08/07/2021 20:15

@AutistGoth

That was me ! Thank you, Hotel bedding smell is lovely. I’m not keen on heavily fragrances laundry even with just using laundry liquid.

Anonymous48 · 08/07/2021 20:44

Ironing water? What even is that?

SuccessfullySaved · 08/07/2021 20:55

I need to try this now - how much vinegar do you put in? My clothes always feel like theres some kind of coating on them, maybe this is it!

PattyPan · 08/07/2021 21:31

I find the opposite re ironing, when I had a TD everything got crumpled from the tumbling but now I hang everything the creases drop out (as long as I hang it properly and don’t let DP just fling it at the airer!). I tend to dry work clothes by hanging them on hangers on the back of doors. I don’t iron anything.

No, the clothes don’t smell of vinegar, they don’t smell of anything Smile

PattyPan · 08/07/2021 21:32

I put in a couple of capfuls of the vinegar bottle cap, probably about half the amount of a fabric softener capful.

AutistGoth · 08/07/2021 21:42

Yes - two small capfuls. You only need a bit. If you have a shot glass, or one of those small plastic measuring jugs that come with cough medicine, half fill one of those.

@Newbie8365

I have a sponge that I use to only clean the bath with. DH knows this is the 'bath cleaning 'sponge'. Caught him cleaning the dining table with it once Angry
Would the bath contaminate the table? Or the table contaminate the bath? Or does it not matter a f*?
