AIBU to stop the online grocery orders and delivery?

I live at home with my mother. I have an account with one of the online groceries home delivery shops. Every week since last winter I was did online groceries for a home delivery.

We have a problem now at home. The yard is neglected and the grass is getting too long. This problem wasn't bad in the winter because the grass died from the cold over the winter. Back in April of this year I knew this was going to be an issue. I suggested to my mother that I could get a battery operated strimmer online because they are easier on the back and she dismissed the idea because I am female and she said not to be ridiculous because we already have a grass strimmer. It's a petrol one by the way. It was bought a few years ago where my brother used it to cut the grass. He still lives at home but he has some issues with drugs and he's a stoner. My mother had faith in him back in April/May of this year that he was going to cut the grass. He hasn't cut the grass and he won't do it either. My mother doesn't want to get a gardener to cut the grass or even some of the grass because I suppose she can't afford it because she's too busy allowing my brother to live free at home. She likes to pity him for being male and she subsides his share of all of the household bills. It's only recently I put in this boundary where all the bills are to go 3 ways and if she wants him to go free, she can pay for him. Before that the bills were 50/50 between me and her. My mother has narcissistic tendencies and I was paying up to maintain the peace.

The grass situation is getting ridiculous now. Its too long. I will put up a picture with a lot of the area cropped. This isn't even half of it. It's as high as the windows now. To get into the door, you need to climb through the grass where there is a small path. It's not too bad on a dry day. It's manageable but on a wet day, it's awful because the legs and shoes get wet. I'm experiencing problems now too with ticks. I went out to the bins the other evening and the next day I found a tick stuck to me. I suspect it was from climbing through the grass. I'm experiencing regular problems now with ticks. My brother is a drug addict and he spends a lot of time in his room and he doesn't have the problem of ticks because he's not battling through the grass.

I think the grass is so bad now. I don't think it's very fair for a delivery driver to battle through this grass to deliver groceries. There's also massive weeds within inches of the front door.

I don't understand. If the grass is that long and you have a strimmer, why don't you just go and cut the grass?

Macncheeseballs · 03/07/2021 18:02

If you don't live there, leave them to sort it out

EezyOozy · 03/07/2021 18:04

Can you not use the petrol strimmer ?

Gazelda · 03/07/2021 18:06

I'd cut the grass, is there a reason you can't?

BarbaraPapa · 03/07/2021 18:06

So... what will happen about groceries if you cancel the deliveries because the grass is too long?

OuiOuiKitty · 03/07/2021 18:07

Just cut the grass? Even if you only do 15mins a day you would get through it quick enough. Then keep on top of it so it doesn't get that long again.

Garden7CAT7 · 03/07/2021 18:07

Why cany you cut the grass yourself ?

Electric lawnmower & an extension lead

Or pay for a gardener to cut the grass

Or move out

BouncyDaisy · 03/07/2021 18:07

I was asking for a few years for my brother to show me how to use the strimmer but he never did. He laughed in the face of me being a woman at the idea of me using a strimmer and he did say it can be heavy for the back.

I wanted to buy a battery operated one and cut the grass before it got too long. I felt it would have been more manageable before it got too long. My mother dismissed me and placed faith in my brother that he will cut the grass.

Are you not allowed to cut the grass or something ?

ichifanny · 03/07/2021 18:08

Just go cut it it’s not as hard as you think you don’t need a penis to operate it .

VanCleefArpels · 03/07/2021 18:09

And the reason why you are spending time here moaning about a fixable”problem” instead of err… fixing the problem is……what?

Vanishun · 03/07/2021 18:10

Just use the strimmer OP. Or meet the delivery person outside.

Otherwise it's a bit cutting off your nose to spite your face sort of stuff.

Long term, can you move out?

BouncyDaisy · 03/07/2021 18:11

If I stop with the groceries, I can go on the bus to the nearest aldi and just sort out my own groceries and get a bag of groceries. My mother and brother can do what they want. My mother will probably go to the villages corner shop and my brother will continue being stoned no doubt.

Can you borrow a lawn mower from a neighbour?

Using the lawn mower is like hoovering
However, do not push the mower over/on top of the electric cable. Always have the electric cable behind you when using the mower

A strimmer is slightly more dangerous

Orf1abc · 03/07/2021 18:11

Have you thought of Googling 'how to use a strimmer', or just getting on with it?

Aposterhasnoname · 03/07/2021 18:11

Just google how to use a petrol strummer. It’s not rocket science. Or buy a battery one if you want. You don’t need your mothers permission.

magicstar1 · 03/07/2021 18:12

Are you in Ireland OP? I seem to remember your posts about paying half of everything while your brother paid nothing.

Orf1abc · 03/07/2021 18:12

You've posted about your mother and brother many times. You clearly dislike them very much. Why not move out?

SuddenArborealStop · 03/07/2021 18:12

Look up the strimmer model online and find a how to. If it's too heavy buy a battery operated one and do it yourself. Grow up and stop asking for permission to do basic things.

Cattitudes · 03/07/2021 18:13

Cancelling the online shopping would definitely be the most logical solution here Hmm

Midnightballerina · 03/07/2021 18:14

Just go & cut the grass. If you're not sure how to use the strimmer watch a video on YouTube. If it's easier go out & buy a mower. You can probably pick up a 2nd hand one for a reasonable price.
You don't have to wait for permission.

Hawkins001 · 03/07/2021 18:14

I'll be honesf, that grass is easy to get through, I've walked through at least 2ft high nettles, grass and brambles when needed.

Hawkins001 · 03/07/2021 18:14

*honest

Macncheeseballs · 03/07/2021 18:14

It's time to move out, live your own life, leave em to it

mrsm43s · 03/07/2021 18:15

Just cut the grass! And if you want a different strimmer, then buy one. It's up to you what you spend your money on. Ultimately, if you don't like living at home with your mum and brother, then move out!
