Sorry if this has been done. I've only just seen this shared online and I'm so disturbed. 'Cry more slut' - she's a child Sad I don't understand the hatred and violence towards girls and women, I really can't wrap my head around why those people thought those comments were funny or ok to post.

@PhilSwagielka

As a Jew, I wish people saying shit like 'your grandad killed Anne Frank' would get off my side.

I like and respect the German team (and they're quite hot too). I love football but I hate the BS that goes with it. The racism and the homophobia and the sexism (because women who like football are considered to be some kind of aberration by a lot of men still).

Hit the nail on the head with the racism, homophobia and sexism.

DD is smitten with Havertz, I think Muller is more my type...

babbaloushka · 01/07/2021 21:36

The ultimate irony is some of the right wing, homophobic nationalists calling the Germans nazis, as though they're not far closer to fascism than most Germans now...

CityMumma78 · 01/07/2021 21:37

So awful that little girl has been targeted!! Twitter is full of vile people, I opened an account at the beginning of this year and shut it down inside a week! This site isn’t much better, have you read some peoples post responses with their sweary, righteous and opinionated comments!!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 01/07/2021 21:37

@Bryonyshcmyony

It's really horrible, but I'm an England fan and not ashamed, as they have nothing to do with me and the vast majority of England fans.
This. I don't know why some people think we should all be ashamed to support England because of the actions of some fans.
Jahebejrjr · 01/07/2021 21:39

@theleavesaregreen It’s not a stupid comment to ask why people are banging on about Brexit at this tournament. There has always been rivalry in football. The Spanish started the booing trend. There are hooligan ultras in every nation. If you want intolerance go to some EU countries as a black player and see what reception you get. There are idiots everywhere. That’s why I don’t get there Brexit thing. It’s stupid.

@Shefliesonherownwings This is a genuine question. How do you function living in a country you hate so much? Do you see nothing positive about it? It must be really hard for you

Sweaty and opinionated is one thing. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone here calling a little girl a slut or a nazi slag though.

I agree Twitter is a weird place. There is hatred and division everywhere. Nobody can see the grey areas anymore. Everyone is right. It is not healthy.

TimeToGoOut · 01/07/2021 21:41

I complained to the BBC about this footage being broadcast (first time I've ever complained). This was the response I received.

"Thanks for getting in touch with us about our coverage of the England v Germany match on 29 June.

"We’re sorry that you’re unhappy with the images shown of the German girl crying, however UEFA are the host broadcaster of Euro 2020 and the stadium footage was controlled and provided by them.

"Nevertheless, we’ve ensured that your concerns have been shared with the BBC Sport team."

BastardMonkfish · 01/07/2021 21:42

@CarlottaValdez

The only place I’ve seen these horrible tweets are on mumsnet. Maybe stop sharing them? I mean you’re giving them an audience.

Shut up and let the men get on with making degrading comments about a child then?

PhilSwagielka · 01/07/2021 21:44

@AppropriateAdult

Disgusting yes. And these are the same people who are oh-so-woke, and attack people like JK Rowling for naff-all, and call Brexiters, thick racist gammon. Hilariously disingenuous. Typical of some of the people on Twitter.

I really doubt this. I'd wager they're all staunch Brexiteers, not left-wing woke bros.

There is quite a big overlap between right-wing Brexiters and men who post vile crap like this. Sorry, but there is. You see a certain type of bio and know they're going to have vile opinions about too many black players and BLM being Marxist and why aren't they kneeling for Lee Rigby and how disgusting Pride is. This is my own experience as a female football fan on Twitter and it's a big part of why I avoid it like the plague. There are an awful lot of men still who think women shouldn't even be fans, let alone players or commentators.
Macncheeseballs · 01/07/2021 21:44

Bryony, but I genuinely don't understand why adult or child would cry, what are they crying for

Bryonyshcmyony · 01/07/2021 21:47

Shut up and let the men get on with making degrading comments about a child then?

To be fair, I'd only seen them on this post. And the one top right is sarcasm btw.

You'd be better off giving up twitter than getting in a froth about football.

Womendohavevaginasnick · 01/07/2021 21:47

Grotesque.

bitheby · 01/07/2021 21:47

In the pub I watched the football in (I was the only woman apart from the staff), to a man they all went "aaah" and someone said, well we've all been there and know that feeling, or words to that effect.

Most people aren't like the vile, abusive people referred to in the tweet.

DrSbaitso · 01/07/2021 21:48

Looking at those accounts, they're generally YouTubers whose entire schtick is getting into online flame wars or weirdos with three followers.

RLOU30 · 01/07/2021 21:48

A go fund me page has been set up for the little girl trying to raise £500 to show not all of the UK are arseholes or something. It’s at about £4,500 now

The commentators said something similar.

Honestly people should just stop trawling twitter and enjoy the football!

Jahebejrjr · 01/07/2021 21:49

That’s really kind.

Oh ffs
Jahebejrjr · 01/07/2021 21:50

@Bryonyshcmyony I agree. I am really political but for gods sake why can’t we just enjoy the football for what it is. I’m not ashamed to say I love it and would be overjoyed if we won.

Bryonyshcmyony · 01/07/2021 21:52

It would never have occurred to me to be ashamed of supporting England. Only on Mumsnet do people get cats bum mouthed about football. My dd plays to a very high level and I love the game.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 01/07/2021 21:53

Is there anything that doesn't get a Go Fund Me these days?!

RLOU30 · 01/07/2021 21:54

No lol. It’s crazy and will go totally over the top.

Boomisshiss · 01/07/2021 21:54

Wow some England fans are an absolute disgrace
