To be really disturbed - Twitter reactions to crying German girl

Sorry if this has been done. I've only just seen this shared online and I'm so disturbed. 'Cry more slut' - she's a child Sad I don't understand the hatred and violence towards girls and women, I really can't wrap my head around why those people thought those comments were funny or ok to post.

Yeah to be honest most of the worst things you read on the internet are trolls though, right? Just looking for you to get offended and sow division - boring answer. Outrage (in response to stupid trolls) is really hurting our society right now though.

Shefliesonherownwings · 01/07/2021 21:20

Those type of posts are one of the reasons DH and I, both English, refuse to support England in any of these types of sporting events, we always support whoever England is playing against. I feel so embarrassed of this country when I see this sort of xenophobic vitriol.

goddessofmischief · 01/07/2021 21:21

I saw her crying when we watched the game and said out loud "Oh, little love".
Because she's a little girl, crying.
Reading this, I'm so glad I don't use Twitter. What the actual fuck is wrong with some people?!

PhilSwagielka · 01/07/2021 21:21

@FlaminEckVera

Disgusting yes. And these are the same people who are oh-so-woke, and attack people like JK Rowling for naff-all, and call Brexiters, thick racist gammon. Hilariously disingenuous. Typical of some of the people on Twitter.

Twitter has some intelligent and funny people, but it also has some remarkably repugnant and vile ones too.

Really? In my experience, it's not the left-wing fans on Twitter who write shit like this. It tends to be the more right-wing/pro-Brexit fans who think it's oh so hilarious to call a little girl a slut and a Nazi. The same ones shouting about world wars and calling German footballers Nazis, which is a bit much considering that the Nazis would have hated the squad. What with the black players, players of Turkish origin and Manuel Neuer's armband. I'm sick of it. They're footballers, not fucking Nazis, anymore than the England team are colonisers.

I don't even know what JKR has to do with this, though I certainly hope England's victory isn't spun into a triumph for Brexit. A few weeks ago plenty of England fans were whining about Gareth Southgate and the England team being ~woke~ (Mumsnet's favourite insult for everything we don't like) and calling Southgate all sorts when he had the temerity to ask them not to boo his squad.

Me too. I felt a bit uncomfortable about the BBC focusing on her, she's just a little kid.
Bryonyshcmyony · 01/07/2021 21:23

It's really horrible, but I'm an England fan and not ashamed, as they have nothing to do with me and the vast majority of England fans.

That's absolutely batshit.
Maggiesfarm · 01/07/2021 21:25

That's horrible, really cruel. However it must be said that football fans are not known for their finesse.

MarshaBradyo · 01/07/2021 21:25

I support England and enjoyed their win, I don’t see why these idiots are in any way representative of all. They’re trolling

Twitter is full of it. A good way to go is to quit Twitter - or whatever supports extreme views

2021DNA · 01/07/2021 21:26

I don’t post on Twitter anymore because of stuff like this. Social media is a scary place. It seems to be designed to pile on people and harass them. Such a shame. We need to do better.

PhilSwagielka · 01/07/2021 21:26

As a Jew, I wish people saying shit like 'your grandad killed Anne Frank' would get off my side.

I like and respect the German team (and they're quite hot too). I love football but I hate the BS that goes with it. The racism and the homophobia and the sexism (because women who like football are considered to be some kind of aberration by a lot of men still).

Bryonyshcmyony · 01/07/2021 21:27

You'll be supporting Ukraine on Saturday then @shefliesonherownwings?

That bastion of LGBT tolerance and non violent football fans?

Macncheeseballs · 01/07/2021 21:28

It's really shit, but I also don't understand why you would indoctrinate your kids to the extent that they cry at football, it's just a game

Bryonyshcmyony · 01/07/2021 21:28

Yes @marshabradyo I'd far rather not use Twitter than stop watching football.

Doublestar · 01/07/2021 21:28

YABU to be on Twitter! Of course people are going to post nasty stuff anonymously on there - and the demographic is of the scraping the barrel level. It's the same on here except mumsnet are quicker to delete it and ban certain posters. There are scummy people everywhere and social media gives them ample opportunity to air their vile views.

I even find on mumsnet I need regular long break as some people are extremely vitriolic on here to anyone who doesn't agree with them.

Bryonyshcmyony · 01/07/2021 21:29

Loads of little kids cry at football. It's more than just a game to them. Some of them grow out of it.
PhilSwagielka · 01/07/2021 21:29

I'm not going to let a bunch of arsehole men - and it is usually men - put me off cheering for England. Jordan Henderson posted a really lovely tweet in response to a gay man who'd come to watch England play, and I'm really happy for Jordan Pickford and how well he's performed. Biased, I know.

AppropriateAdult · 01/07/2021 21:30

I really doubt this. I'd wager they're all staunch Brexiteers, not left-wing woke bros.

sashagabadon · 01/07/2021 21:30

Come off Twitter. Your life will improve immeasurably

SachaStark · 01/07/2021 21:30

The top right is JackMate, and he’s definitely being extremely sarcastic.

The rest are disgusting.

theleavesaregreen · 01/07/2021 21:31

You can be sure that this is being noticed and discussed in Germany. I'm so ashamed of this country. And obviously, these people will have voted for Brexit -stupid comment above suggesting the contrary. It's racism as well as a hatred of girls/women.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/07/2021 21:31

Absolutely awful. People are just horrible sometimes.

I also thought the top right one was sarcastic though.

I’m so glad I’m not on Twitter. People are much bolder behind keyboards/ phones, but you do sometimes see equally awful behaviour in real life.

CarlottaValdez · 01/07/2021 21:31

The only place I’ve seen these horrible tweets are on mumsnet. Maybe stop sharing them? I mean you’re giving them an audience.

Dippydinosaurus · 01/07/2021 21:31

I have read somewhere that 80% of the internet's vileness is from Twitter. It's a cesspit. However, I have noticed two very different Facebook groups being trolled by men. One of them went offline for a month because of it.

Jordan Pickford is a demigod
