Um was Trotsky heroic? Responsible for a shit load of deaths and executions in the Russian Civil war. Ran away and had an affair with Frida Kahlo. Murdered in Mexico by Stalin's assassin.

There are quite a few song lyrics that I find very dubious. Was watching an old TOTP punk compilation recently and as I am getting on in life I now put the subtitles on. One of the songs featured was Jimmy Jimmy with Feargal Sharkey and the Undertones cheerily jumping around. However the lyrics are actually quite grim and it’s only now, 41 or 42 years after the song came out, that I have realised that they are about child abuse. Used to sit in the student union bar with this playing in the background under the impression that it was quite an upbeat song.
The other song that I find weird is Happy Birthday by Altered Images. If Claire Grogan is on Mumsnet, it would be good to have an explanation for:

I always thought that meant he'd shagged her. Not a flattering description.😀

So many I missed!

But YY to the incubator one in Up The Junction.

Tbh "I gave the dog a bone" isnt the worst sentiment in that song though, meaningful but sad.

What are the plot holes in Fast Car? I have been listening to that since the day it was released and I have missed them all I think!

I know it’s a light hearted thread but I’ve seen this view expressed so many times on MN.

I don’t think it’s a literal ‘no Ethiopians know it’s Christmas.’
