I used to think this too, but is it maybe a reference to how easy it is to ignore things that are happening in other parts of the world? Like how we might think 'phew at least it's not happening to us'? I don't think it's endorsing that view, more highlighting that it's selfish to think that way. Still can't stand Bono tbf.
