Two songs I heard today....

Me and Mrs Jones

Me and Mrs. Jones
We got a thing, goin' on
We both know that it's wrong
But it's much too strong
To let it go now
We meet every day at the same cafe
Six-thirty and no one knows she'll be there
Holding hands, making all kinds of plans
While the juke box plays our favorite songs

So.....ignoring the kids, no sex and pretending that her old man has no clue what is going on...dont sound like much of an affair to me!

Do Wa Diddy

There she was just a-walkin' down the street, singin'
'Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do'
Snappin' her fingers and shufflin' her feet, singin'
'Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do'

I'm thinking more severe MH issues than an attractive hip young thing?!

Any more that I have missed?

I'd rather have a piece of toast is also a bit random. I'm sure we all would rather have toast than see a ghost but in fairness I'd rather shit in my hands and clap than see a ghost.

This made me laugh out loud GrinGrin

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 26/06/2021 11:20

God I love fast car - sound track of my youth. Such a poignant song
What plot holes?

Redannie118 · 26/06/2021 11:22

I love the song The blowers daughter by Damien Rice, but always wondered who the Hell the blowers daughter was??? Even Rice wont disclose it and over the years theres been a kind of fan fiction about the song speculating who or what the Blowers daughter is.

Sooner or later you'll be screwing around...
I won't do that
No I won't do that.

From Kylie’s ‘Dancing’:

‘When you come knocking, I’ll be at your door’

Kylie, you’ve missed each other. You’re at his, and he’s at yours.

Or is he knocking on his own door?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/06/2021 11:25

@CandyLeBonBon

Meatloaf, singing 'I would do anything for live, but I won't do THAT!'

Did we ever discover what 'THAT' was?

Yes. It is stated very, very clearly in the lyrics a few times. But urban mythology just won't let it go.

Meatloaf, singing 'I would do anything for live, but I won't do THAT!'

I think it was roaming around?

And I love the randomness of Queen songs. Scaraboosh, fried chicken etc.

One song that I used to really like until I started to really listen to the words was Young Girl:

"Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run girl You're much too young girl"

"With all the charms of a woman
You've kept the secret of your youth
You led me to believe you're old enough
To give me love And now it hurts to know the truth"

"Beneath your perfume and your make-up
You're just a baby in disguise
And though you know that it's wrong to be
Alone with me
That come on look is in your eyes"

"So hurry home to your mama
I'm sure she wonders where you are
Get out of here Before I have the time To change my mind 'Cause I'm afraid we'll go too far Young girl"

It's like the theme tune to Epstien and Weinstein 🤢

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 26/06/2021 11:30

"I don't care who you are, where you're from WHAT YOU DID as long as you love me"

listen BSB, this sounds like the prison pen pal programme has gotten way out of hand and you'd be ok to date terrorists, child abusers, serial killers, genocidal maniacs...

that's not healthy, have some self-esteem boys ffs

TellingBone · 26/06/2021 11:42

'If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So from a personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you'

Confused
StyleAndLasers · 26/06/2021 11:43

My one is Cecilia. “I got up to wash my face, when I got back to bed someone’s taken my place” - bearing in mind this is “up in my bedroom” - so this guy is not only sleeping with your girlfriend, but he has come into your house and got into your bed in the time it takes you to go to the loo? Did he have a key? was he waiting in the cupboard or something?!

Branleuse · 26/06/2021 11:44

@MysweetAudrina

Well the 2 classics.

Shakira's small and humble breasts that will never be confused with mountains - definitely something lost in translation there as I'm sure even the more generous of nork women don't have people, sheep and snow mistakenly on them.

I'd rather have a piece of toast is also a bit random. I'm sure we all would rather have toast than see a ghost but in fairness I'd rather shit in my hands and clap than see a ghost.

She make me wanna speak spanish. Let me see you move like you come from columbia

@RaininSummer

'Make a little birdhouse in your soul', always leaves me pondering
It's a song about a nightlight in the shape of a blue canary that watches over you while you sleep. 'Make a little birdhouse in your soul' I think is to give mental permission to the blue canary make you feel secure you while you sleep and at other times. There's a bit in the song that goes '(And while you're at it Keep the nightlight on inside the Birdhouse in your soul)'
sirfredfredgeorge · 26/06/2021 11:48

We'll move out of the shelter
Buy a bigger house and live in the suburbs

If they're living in the shelter, they can't buy a bigger house, without buying any house in between.

Those lines have always bugged me, but hardly a plot hole!

CyberGhost · 26/06/2021 11:51

@NCasnottooutmyself

Oasis- She’s Electric

She's got a sister
And God only knows how I've missed her
And on the palm of her hand is a blister

Sister/blister Hmm

It's a euphamism.... imagine how you might get a blister on the palm of your hand..... by vigorous movements up and down perhaps?
ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 26/06/2021 11:54

'we don't need no education"

unless that's sarcasm then yeah, you do

'Make a little birdhouse in your soul', always leaves me pondering
It's a mixed metaphor.

The song itself is about a nightlight shaped like a bird. That line is saying 'make room for love/happiness in your life/soul'

(This is one of my favourite songs of all time)

Considering who wrote it you can rest easy 😁

Babies by Pulp as well - I get that Jarvis The Character is sneaking around spying on girls shagging their boyfriends (the little housebreaking pervert,) and I think that he ends up getting caught by the sister of the girl he really fancies having fallen asleep in her room (or wardrobe?), then the girl he fancies finds out and he says he only slept with her sister because she looked like her.

I find it odd that he is able to let himself in to all these houses (at least two - (Neve’s house and the sister’s house). But I really don’t understand why he says “I came home one day and all her things were gone” - a/ what does he mean, home, it’s not his home, and b/ why were her things gone? What’s the relevance of that?

CaptainMyCaptain · 26/06/2021 12:04

It's 'Scaramouche@ - a character in the Commedia dell'arte - an arty cultural reference. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scaramouche

I think in the song Young Girl he is actually refraining from doing anything with her, although he is tempted he doesn't go there once he finds out her age, which is as it should be.

ohsuzannah · 26/06/2021 12:04

@Arbadacarba

Tommy's skill at the pinball table was meant to be a mystery because he couldn't see or hear.

Though, as this was caused by psychological trauma rather than a physical condition, it was possible he could see and hear at some level.

Yeah...by wicked uncle Ernie Sad

I hate that song although I used to be a Pink Floyd fan and saw them in the early 70s. They were all public school educated as far as I know but would deny any education at all to the majority of children Angry. I probably take it too personally as I was a teacher and school was not like that in my experience.
iklboo · 26/06/2021 12:08

I always took that to mean bigger than they were both used to. To show they'd finally escaped & 'made it'.

cornflowersandpoppies · 26/06/2021 12:10

I think there was a LOT of ‘dark sarcasm in the classroom’ when I was at school (80s and 90s) and casual cruelty in fact.

But isn’t the point that it’s rebelling against the system which sets some up to fail.

CornishYarg · 26/06/2021 12:11

Re Fast Car, when it's played on the radio they often cut off the last verse (the one where it says he sees more of his friends than his kids and that she always hoped for better). Really annoys me as it changes th sad story of the song; by cutting the last verse out, the song ends with them having run away but feeling hopeful.

As a pp says, the "buy a bigger house" bit is a minor plothole; when I'm listening to it, in my head I say "buy a big old house" to get round it!
