To be incredibly proud of Scotland?

A close family member playing for Scotland tonight, been sitting at the edge of our seats all night. He said not to celebrate, not a big deal. AIBU to think it is a big fucking deal that they have a point over England!? I am buzzing, but told to calm down. AIBU to think this is actually amazing and a step in the right direction??

Well seeing as you actually know someone playing, then I would say it's cause for celebration for you.

For me it's 22 men I don't know kicking a ball around a pitch for 90 minutes. I really couldn't care less.

PonDeReplay · 18/06/2021 22:28

YANBU. It’s great they’ve done well.

newnortherner111 · 18/06/2021 22:29

I understand your pride in a family member playing for your country. I would say it was in part a poor performance from England that helped.

tigger1001 · 18/06/2021 22:30

They played their hearts out tonight. They have a lot to be proud of.

We are buzzing. I doubt my eldest will get much sleep as he is just so buzzed.

SticksAndStoned · 18/06/2021 22:30

I'm confused. But then I know little about football.

I thought it was a draw? And that Scotland is bottom of the table?

Lazierdays · 18/06/2021 22:30

Well done to your family member, that’s great and I can see why you want to celebrate.

I don’t particularly support either team playing tonight (probably would go with Scotland if I had to choose) and thought it was a really boring game Grin.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 18/06/2021 22:31

I suppose I'm incredibly proud of England for getting a point over Scotland so why not...

comebackineedyou · 18/06/2021 22:32

Absolutely buzzing Grin like never before! Grin

Scot here. We played fantastically and a point for us against England is something to be proud of!
The Scots will feel like they've won tonight, the English will feel like they've lost. Us Scots know we're usually shite🤣 but tonight was something else

RampantIvy · 18/06/2021 22:33

Am I being thick? the match was a draw, so how do they have a point over England?

One of the England players went to DD's school.

Edgarj7674 · 18/06/2021 22:33

Given how proud I am of the lads tonight, I can’t even contemplate the level of pride you must feel. Scotland were immense tonight.

Penchantforfloralpatterns · 18/06/2021 22:33

We didn’t lose and that is a BIG fucking deal, not losing is winning for Scotland!
The Scotland team did themselves proud, they played well and showed how strong they have become, they made good plays, created chances and had decent possession over the match.

MaMelon · 18/06/2021 22:33

I thought they both get a point?

randomsabreuse · 18/06/2021 22:34

On ranking England should have won comfortably but on the actual performance I felt Scotland were unlucky not to win. So I can see why the team feel disappointed at this point.

Big upset to pull off a draw, hopefully will win the final match and make it out of the pool.

It was a draw. But on paper that should have been an easy win for England. England have a lot of great players at their disposal.

It was a great game and result for Scotland. Scotland played well and had their chances.

Trevsadick · 18/06/2021 22:34

I get being proud of a family member playing, that's amazing!

I, honestly, don't get being proud of a whole team wether they win, lose or draw. Unless you know them.

But I am not, particularly, patriotic.

I say the same about my national team, not england. They are a group of men doing the job they are paid to do.

Not sure how they have a point over England though.

HappyBirthdayMrPresident · 18/06/2021 22:34

Am so proud of Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 tbh we thought we would get gubbed 🤣

Completely agree @Notthemessiah

I’m a huge football fan (and a Scot… obviously) but god that was a dry game.
We got lucky by virtue of and england side who just didn’t look like they were arsed.

But seeing a family member play at the top level is exciting.

Gertie75 · 18/06/2021 22:36

I'm English and predicted 0-0, the hype over England is always the same, huge expectations of a great game and a win then its the usual mediocre 85 minutes of passing between each other and 5 minutes of excitement.

drpet49 · 18/06/2021 22:37

England played very poor.

Agreed

Pinchoftums · 18/06/2021 22:39

As an English woman I would say Scotland should be proud and England should be ashamed. On paper England should have won, but Scotland made far more chances and could have won it if they had a better stricker. England were dull and lazy.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 18/06/2021 22:40

Me an aw mrpresident

It’ll dae me 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Yesmate · 18/06/2021 22:41

You should be proud. Being selected for an international team is huge. Even if they’d have got hammered, the pride would be the same. As for a point over England, that’s not actually correct. Both teams earn one point.
As an England fan, for me the most exciting part of the game was Beckham in a suit!
