To be incredibly proud of Scotland?

A close family member playing for Scotland tonight, been sitting at the edge of our seats all night. He said not to celebrate, not a big deal. AIBU to think it is a big fucking deal that they have a point over England!? I am buzzing, but told to calm down. AIBU to think this is actually amazing and a step in the right direction??

Congrats to your brother, win/loose/draw you must be so proud

ShowMeTheSugar · 19/06/2021 00:18

Oh no *win, lose or draw

BashfulClam · 19/06/2021 00:20

@roarfeckingroarr they haven’t trashed anything. We party and shout and sing and that’s it. I’ve seen England fans do disgraceful damage after games. Please post some evidence of this ‘trashing’

BashfulClam · 19/06/2021 00:24

@roarfeckingroarr I’d say the fans who booed during Flower of Scotland being sung were the worst. Absolute dick move by ‘your fans’

CaptainSmartarse · 19/06/2021 00:31

OMG Op ,he plays for Celtic ? Celtic are ma team 🍀🍀💚 I am trying to figure out which one but all the bhoys were fab ! Tell him please don't leave the club as we will come back from this bad patch 🙏 I miss Parkheid so much living down here now but determined to catch a few games with my son who still lives in Glasgow with his girlfriend. Have a lovely time ,OP ! 💚

Nandakanda · 19/06/2021 00:36

Scotland were great.

I really hope they both win their remaining games next week.

BluePeterVag · 19/06/2021 00:51

I’m English, but I thought Scotland were really good to get where they are and I hope they can go further. I would love to see a new era for Scottish football in international competitions with a shake up of the usual top ranked teams.

laurenlodge · 19/06/2021 01:01

Thrilled for your family and yknow, if a 0-0 draw is that exciting for Scotland then I'm pleased for the Scots also! But I really think people who are saying a draw was anything other than a fair result are slightly off - both teams had some good chances and some not so good ones. England hit the post...

Shame the game was so poor but hopefully Scotland will keep qualifying now they're expanding the tournaments and we'll get lots of repeats to have another go!

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 19/06/2021 01:08

How lovely that MNers are queuing up to piss on the OP's chips.

Congratulations OP! I have a foot in both camps, but tonight I'm feeling distinctly more Scottish Wink The team were brilliant, and your brother should feel incredibly proud of what he's achieved, even just making it to the squad, let alone playing! Whatever anyone says, this was a great result for Scotland - and yes 'taking a point off' IS a football phrase when you get a draw away from home.

laurenlodge · 19/06/2021 01:14

@sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea 'getting a point over' is what was said though, which isn't a football phrase and especially not one you'd associate with a draw.

Behave!

Well done OP's wee brother 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Drawing with England at home is amazing you should be very proud . Been watching pundits claim for days how it would be a walk in the park for them. Proud of our wee country .

Boomisshiss · 19/06/2021 01:42

@roarfeckingroarr

Your fans were a disgrace trashing London, my home.
It’s all right Nicola and Humza will pay she was wanting Rangers to pay for the clean up in George Square so she will pay for this no problem .
Susannahmoody · 19/06/2021 02:13

Scotland are amazing

Wish I was Scottish

Might actually start saying I am

stairway · 19/06/2021 05:05

Scotland played really well . However celebrating a draw is perhaps the biggest unintentional compliment a Scottish fan has ever given an English team! I do hope Scotland keep the passion up for their next game and Wales too!

BonnieDundee · 19/06/2021 06:16

Laughing at posters queuing up to rain on our parade. Miserable fecking bastards Grin

Let us have our moment

How is it a compliment when you guys have ten times the pool of people to choose from for your team?
Aprilx · 19/06/2021 06:33

You should be proud of your relative, that is a great achievement.

I am not interested in football, it was on because DH was watching it and I saw most of it but I didn’t stay until the end. DH came up afterwards mumbling something about Scotland carrying on like they had won. 😂.

And why don’t they only put any effort in against England? It’s a bit daft really, maybe they would do better if they put the same effort in with other teams.

rose69 · 19/06/2021 06:44

Pity the behaviour of the fans in London didn't mirror the hard work of the players.

Pootle40 · 19/06/2021 06:51

I can certainly smell some bitterness on this thread!

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 19/06/2021 07:12

It was a nil nil draw

In a match that English pundits on both BBC and ITV were totally unironically and in all sincerity forecasting three and four goal wins for England. It's not just an upset, it's also a result that keeps Scotland in with a realistic chance of progressing to the next stage of the tournament.

After the disappointing non-performance in Monday's match, I think it's perfectly understandable why Scots are almost universally proud of, and happy to praise the team for arguably having the better of a game the 'experts' were predicting they'd be drubbed in.

letsghostdance · 19/06/2021 07:35

@roarfeckingroarr Because England fans have never trashed anywhere??

SticksAndStoned · 19/06/2021 07:49

Yeah, Scottish fans are the worst. Remember the time that Scottish teams were banned from playing in Europe because the fans rioted and people died?

No, me neither.

Cockadoodles · 19/06/2021 07:51

Well I suppose it depends what floats your boat. Think there is much more to life than a silly game of football but to each their own. Is it really that much to be “proud” of?

It's really not! England should, on paper, have won that game comfortably. They have a huge pool of players to choose from. But they were lazy and didn't play well. England were pretty lucky it was a draw.

Scotland played well.
