A close family member playing for Scotland tonight, been sitting at the edge of our seats all night. He said not to celebrate, not a big deal. AIBU to think it is a big fucking deal that they have a point over England!? I am buzzing, but told to calm down. AIBU to think this is actually amazing and a step in the right direction??

The game was dire. Scotland played with slightly more heart, but my dd could have finished better than any of them tbh.

RedthroatedCaracara · 19/06/2021 08:12

You're setting the bar rather low. They're "great" because they didn't lose over England who are shit anyway? What'll happen if they play against a good team - will they be plucky little tartan warriors just for turning up?

Booing shameful on both sides- we're Great Britain and a bit of mutual respect would've been good.

ApplesinmyPocket · 19/06/2021 08:16

@Gertie75

I'm English and predicted 0-0, the hype over England is always the same, huge expectations of a great game and a win then its the usual mediocre 85 minutes of passing between each other and 5 minutes of excitement.
Agree! I'm not a football fan but watch the occasional England match to keep DH company. That was completely typical of every England match I've watched. I've NEVER seen a good one. Loads of buildup, commentators excited about all the "super-new talent" in the team, predictions of an easy England win. Then you get to the actual game and it looks like an aimless kickabout in the park. Lots of passing backwards, little sign of any strategy to work together to get the ball up towards the goal.
CallMeNutribullet · 19/06/2021 08:21

I think people don't realise we know we're shite. We're just delighted to have actually qualified as it's the first time in 26 years and we fully expect to get pumped out in the first round..

As for trashing London, Scotland fans are well known for their excellent and friendly behaviour when travelling to see their team so I'm surprised. Unless you think putting fairy liquid in the fountain is trashing.

DarceyDashwood · 19/06/2021 08:24

They didn’t get a point “over” England 😂

66babe · 19/06/2021 08:27

I knew 100% that when I woke up this morning I'd find this feed had turned into a Scotland bashing how did they do well it was a draw your fans are shit post
We know we are usually crap lol but they put heart and soul into that
England may not have seemed to be playing their best but they still kept us out the goal
Again , well done to OP wee bro
And come on boys for Croatia
Cannae beat a wee bubble bath 🤭😂

Pottedpalm · 19/06/2021 08:29

Understand your pride to have a family member playing, but I think the whole thing is the usual dull pile of pants.

ConstantlySeekingHappiness · 19/06/2021 08:31

So much bitterness on this thread.

Some people just hate to see Scotland enjoying themselves.

Trashing London 😂😂😂😂

Bryonyshcmyony · 19/06/2021 08:32

I couldn't care less what the fans did. Both teams played really badly. Scotland were terrible, as were England.

Agreed!

We had a ball last night, and my football crazy teenager is still a little hoarse this morning.

KingsOfTheWildFrontier · 19/06/2021 08:37

I don't think English people realise what us up in Scotland have to put up with regarding the English media and commentators and the England team. Gary Lineka, Rio Ferdinand and the others (don't know their names) saying how it will be an easy win for England, how great the England team are, etc. That's why Scotland getting a draw and not conceding a goal at Wembley is amazing for us! They will have to eat their words or in Weegie speak- get it up them! Grin

Every tournament it's all about how England can go all the way and win the cup whereas us Scots are just delighted to be in the tournament! Here's to many more now.

Isadora2007 · 19/06/2021 08:44

Am I the only one wondering who had fairy liquid on them at a football after match celebration? 🤔

It will have been purchased with the specific intention.

Totally this!

It's not just football either but it's remarkable there.

Even last Saturday night when we were watching eriksen fight for his life, the commentators had to get it in there that it was an English referee. There is little doubt that the referee getting help on the pitch quickly helped give the good outcome, but not sure what the nationality of the ref had to do with that.

We do usually play "1966" bingo when watching any English commentators, sadly not even confined to English games.

MaMelon · 19/06/2021 08:53

@KingsOfTheWildFrontier totally agree. I don’t like football and have no interest in it, but on the odd occasion I do watch a game the (mainly English) commentators seem to forget they’re broadcasting to the UK and should be impartial.

66babe · 19/06/2021 08:55

@tigger1001 awwww bring him a wee tea
I'm a 54 year old woman living in England and actually don't give a rats arse about football but love to support my home country in every way I can as well as appreciating that England may go further than us and I'll be happy for them too

England were crap and Scotland played better. I'm English. Celebrate away

Yesmate · 19/06/2021 08:58

@BashfulClam as an England fan I was mortified when I heard that. I was watching with my 8 year old, hard to explain why they were doing that in clean language! It’s actually embarrassing!

I hope you managed to get some sleep OP!

user1471466920 · 19/06/2021 08:59

Are you Calmac’s sister?

Portla · 19/06/2021 09:02

It's a fantastic result for Scotland. Just qualifying will bring in a good lump of money to Scottish football, the draw with England alone would be prize money of around 430k i think. Its definitely something to be celebrated.

trockodile · 19/06/2021 09:06

Lovely to see how well the Scotland team played, congrats to your wee bro! They were unlucky not to get a goal.
On another note though, its just nice to see the Scottish fans celebrating their team-i can’t understand so called fans who will boo their own players-they’re called supporters, not…we only like you if you win and do exactly as we want you to do!

He won't drink tea! But will make him something. He's still buzzing 😂😂. Think if they had scored his voice would have completely gone!

But it's his first time watching Scotland in a major tournament and was with his pals watching it, and as he's a teenager also group chatting his pals who were watching it elsewhere. So lovely seeing them get right into the spirit of it and enjoying every second. I was glad however they were at a pals watching it as the singing was full on - and as much as I love my son, sing he cannot!😂

KingsOfTheWildFrontier · 19/06/2021 09:11

@tigger1001 1966 is always brought up Hmm ! I don't think I've seen a Scottish commentator during this tournament yet on the BBC when I've watched- correct me if I'm wrong.

KingdomScrolls · 19/06/2021 09:13

Congratulations to your brother, Alvina achievement for him. Is he Billy Gilmour? If so he had an outstanding debut.
It was a fairly dull match to watch though and not just because it was a goalless draw. England didn't play the way they have in recent years and I hope that improves. Also whilst Scotland gained a point so did England so they didn't gain a point over England. Scotland defended well but if they want to progress they also need to score and there was little realistic chance of that last night.
