To ask you to tell me what's good in lidl?

For the first time in about 2ish years (mostly due to the pandemic and shielding) I am going to be near a lidl tomorrow for an appointment and I'm already looking forward to a cookie and a warm cheese straw from the bakery 🤤

As its been so long I am wondering if there are any special secret items that I should get to try? Open to food, cleaning and other items as its been so long since I was there. I remenber the wash liquid was always a decent price and the butter ring biscuits were always melt in the mouth as they were my dad's faves.

I'm disappointed with our local supermarket deliveries (Asda and Sainsbury's, haven't been able to book a Tesco slot since feb) and paying more for less and less (and increasingly poor quality /poor dates) so ready for a change.

Thank you

What can beat the middle of lidl!

Spied · 07/06/2021 16:33

Cheese & onion quiche
Multivitamin juice
Tropical juice
Pasta sauces ( smooth tomato)
Pizza bases ( new- in fridge)
Tortilla chips
Cereal bars

Randomo · 07/06/2021 16:35

The best part of lidl = the exit door

dirtyfries · 07/06/2021 16:36

Their premium coleslaw (for a grand total of £0.79) is my DH's absolute favourite.

1Morewineplease · 07/06/2021 16:40

Formil washing powder

Bingomangoes · 07/06/2021 16:41

Anything in the deli section: chorizo, palma ham etc just way better than Tesco, Sainsburys etc makes sense I guess as they're also selling it in Italy, France, Spain etc

FangsForTheMemory · 07/06/2021 16:41

The garlic sausage. Also the cheese.

Lottieskeeper · 07/06/2021 16:43

Coffee beans. They manage to be roughly the cheapest supermarket beans at the same time as being pretty much the tastiest.

MyMabel · 07/06/2021 16:44

I always find the veg of decent quality.

Love anything from the bakery, the sundries tomato, goats cheese and pesto pizza thing is lush, cinnamon rolls are good too!

HoldingTheDoor · 07/06/2021 16:44

The brownies they sell in the bakery are amazing.

dirtyfries · 07/06/2021 16:45

The sourdough pizzas (fresh, not frozen)

shetlandponies · 07/06/2021 16:45

The bolognese lasagne

And the tiramisu in the little pots,
Omg 😻

I agree. I can't bear the queues so I go in very infrequently but when I do, I bulk buy coffee especially their Gold one (which is ground not beans but still yummy).
Summersun2020 · 07/06/2021 16:46

Pastel de nata from the bakery 😍 I could eat ten.

queenMab99 · 07/06/2021 16:46

The ground coffee, columbian 500g bag £3.29, is the nicest coffee ever! Jam, nuts, half side of salmon, and the low GI bread from the bakery, to list a few.

TurquoiseDragon · 07/06/2021 16:49

I like the big fat salami roll, cost around £5. I like making salads with chunks of salami and not the thin slices so this salami tastes nice and I can cut it how I like.

antwacky · 07/06/2021 16:51

They do two types of dishwasher tablets, I find the All in One type are brilliant.

Dreamer2468 · 07/06/2021 16:53

Does anyone know if there is a good day of the week to go there for plants? They always seem to be sold out when I get there.

cupsofcoffee · 07/06/2021 16:57

Their focaccia (I think) with pesto, cheese and sundried tomatoes. AMAZING.

BigusBumus · 07/06/2021 17:01

Their Peach flavoured squash is the nicest squash ever.

The 8 low fat yogurts in a pack by Milbona. Especially the gorgeous Pear one.

I have teenage boys who go to the gym a lot and like expensive Protein Bars like Grenade. For the same cost as one of those I can get a box of 3 own brand ones from Lidl which they don't mind at all.

Subeccoo · 07/06/2021 17:03

The brownies and the pastel del nata.
Great wine (for a mid range plonk drinker like me) and the gin, and the beer to be honest.
Someone else mentioned the parma ham etc, love the bread, the halloumi is much cheaper than other places.
I live in an area where things like aubergines and butternut squash sew hard to come by so I always get them.
The low calorie ice cream if you're watching calories, the fake Ben and Jerry's if you're not.
The meat for price and quality is better than the other places near me (not butcher obvs but good all the same).
Middle of lidl for toys for dgc.
Basic sauces, mayo, ketchup etc, so cheap.
I'm a fan, I do my main shopping there and top up with bits from Morrisons if I need to.

They don't stock plants permanently, so you have to keep an eye on "the middle of Lidl" pages on their website, to see when they'll be getting them in. I just checked and my local Lidl is due to have indoor and outdoor plants for sale on Thursday.

www.lidl.co.uk/c/indoor-outdoor-plants/c1918/w2

The type of plant varies through the year, and although some will be available for several days it is always worth turning up on the day they arrive if there is anything in particular you fancy.

My favourite Lidl item is the mature Alpine cheese, which they only get once or twice a year (they get the mild stuff more often). It tastes like the stuff you get on holiday in Switzerland.

Cottonheadedninymuggins · 07/06/2021 17:24

Fabulous! Thank you, I'm making a fast growing shopping list 😂 haven't hard a garlic sausage sandwich in years 🤤🤤

Oh and my DH is an HP sauce snob. What he doesn't know is I buy Lidls Brown Sauce for about 60p and decant it into the HP bottle.

My son walked in on my doing it once and blackmailed me into giving him a lift into town or he would tell! Haha.

DH has never once thought to question it as it tastes EXACTLY the same.
