To ask you to tell me what's good in lidl?

Cottonheadedninymuggins · 07/06/2021 16:28

For the first time in about 2ish years (mostly due to the pandemic and shielding) I am going to be near a lidl tomorrow for an appointment and I'm already looking forward to a cookie and a warm cheese straw from the bakery 🤤

As its been so long I am wondering if there are any special secret items that I should get to try? Open to food, cleaning and other items as its been so long since I was there. I remenber the wash liquid was always a decent price and the butter ring biscuits were always melt in the mouth as they were my dad's faves.

I'm disappointed with our local supermarket deliveries (Asda and Sainsbury's, haven't been able to book a Tesco slot since feb) and paying more for less and less (and increasingly poor quality /poor dates) so ready for a change.

Thank you

@Cottonheadedninymuggins sorry Grin

We don't have a LIDL near us so whenever I go, I stock up! You can find them in the fresh bakery section...

Manzanilla55 · 07/06/2021 17:30

Their own diet rice pudding tins are quite tasty. Belbake they are called.

Ds is also partial to the cooked chicken drumsticks.

CallMeCleo · 07/06/2021 17:47

The black bin bags are 200% as thick as any others. I would never buy those flimsy ones again, it's Lidl for me all the way.

Their own brand fruit and nut chocolate, presented in a cardboard box, it's £1.49 I think. Best in the world.

SkankingMopoke · 07/06/2021 18:04

The bags of nuts are good. I always stock up on pecans and cashews.
A lot of the stuff brought in for the themed weeks is good. The French Week lines are definitely the same as things stocked in French branches, as I've bought quite a number of them whilst on holiday there.
Dishwasher tabs.
Kabanos.

Toiletrollbuyer · 07/06/2021 18:10

What are those burger things they do? I’m having a complete brain fart and I can’t think of the name

Frikadellen!! That’s it. In the chiller, looks like a burger. Oh now I need to go to lidl....

Toiletrollbuyer · 07/06/2021 18:11

It’s basically a burger that tastes like the best meatball you’ve ever had and to cook it you just microwave it for a minute.

I get the discs of goat's cheese and then stick them in a jar with cardomem, cumin and coriander seeds, dried chillies and a bit of rosemary - sort of trying to copy the pizza oil you get in France.

Their Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon is good was 2€19 and now under 2€.

Disclaimer, I live in France

@BigusBumus

Their Peach flavoured squash is the nicest squash ever.

The 8 low fat yogurts in a pack by Milbona. Especially the gorgeous Pear one.

I have teenage boys who go to the gym a lot and like expensive Protein Bars like Grenade. For the same cost as one of those I can get a box of 3 own brand ones from Lidl which they don't mind at all.

Oh that protein bars is a good tip! I spend a fortune on stuff like that for my teenage dustbin son
SpamIAm · 07/06/2021 18:19

The bacon and cheese sausage rolls. They're mixed in with the hog roast ones (don't bother with those, they're rubbish).

The mustard crisps in french week and and the Berner rosti in alpine week.

The low calorie ice cream is the most disappointing thing I've ever put in my mouth.

Gottalovesummer · 07/06/2021 18:26

Bread
Fruit
Coleslaw (premium one)
Pizzas
Juice
Cleaning wipes and bleach- so cheap
Own brand crisps
Wine esp their Spanish wine
Branded chocolate is cheaper
Most of their bakery items!

Cottonheadedninymuggins · 07/06/2021 18:30

Thank you everyone! added a number of these to the shopping list!

The kitchen roll is brilliant, so is the foil, and their blueberry jam is lovely!

tuliplily · 07/06/2021 18:37

THE BAKERY 🙌🙌🙌

StarryStarrySocks · 07/06/2021 18:38

Voting for a lot of the same things as everyone else, but:
Anything from the bakery!
The fake Ben and Jerry's
The fake twixes (caramel crunch?)
The fake chocolate hob nobs (are you sensing a theme here?! Grin)
Cheese slices - I like the ones with pepper in and the smoked cheese ones
Fresh apple and mango juice - I like that it's not as sweet as the ones you get elsewhere

Springquartet · 07/06/2021 18:41

Moroccan Hoummous
Cheese
Mustard
Cous Cous
Pesto
Nuts
Dried fruit
Massive bags of individual crisps
Lemon and ginger herbal tea
Oat Cakes
Big pots of natural yoghurt

PawsQueen · 07/06/2021 18:41

The Somerset crunchy extra mature cheddar

ShanghaiDiva · 07/06/2021 18:41

The deluxe cereal bars- choc and almond/cashew and something else, all yummy.
Tower gate biscuits, the extremely choclatey ones- same as the M&S ones imo
Deluxe frozen peas

Springquartet · 07/06/2021 18:41

Forgot to say

Sun dried tomatoes

PinkArt · 07/06/2021 18:44

Their chopped mango is way better then any other supermarket. Also love the smoked salmon and the crisp sticks (not chipsticks).

Lincslady53 · 07/06/2021 18:48

Jars of cherry jam.

BarbaraPapa · 07/06/2021 18:50

During Italian week, the Amarena cherries are a multi buy for me.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 07/06/2021 18:51

I love their bakery stuff and their cold coffees (and they happen to be an excellent pairing)

Myonlysunshine123 · 07/06/2021 18:55

@MyMabel that's what I was going to say, they cheese pesto thing. I get one to eat in the car then one for later.

solvendie · 07/06/2021 18:56

I like their croissants and pretzels. Also like their sirloin steaks, Masada cheese slices and Greek yogurt. The fresh fruit and veg in the Lidl I got to is superb but I know it can vary in quality from store to store.

If you get a chance during their promos to pick up the cheese fondue sauce, it is amazing - really has a lovely authentic taste

Hog roast sausage rolls, all the biscuits, fake twix and Mars bars.
Not the fake m and m’s.
Bakery is good. Bread excellent.
Beef joints lovely. So is the lamb.
Not keen on the chicken unless it’s free range.
Cleaning products all good.
Fruit and veg box £1.50.
Proper reductions on same day expiry items. Meat sold for £2 Or 90p.
Ready meals 70p or 20p.
It’s all good.
