Watching the Great British Pottery Throw Down on REALLY with my (teenage) kids and an advert for Love Honey came on and literally far too overt -finished with a woman in suspenders and some kind of straps across her bum cheeks hitting herself with a whip from behind-WTAF? But all the clips were seemingly about the women needing to dress up to impress the man (but that's another issue!!)
I know it is past 9pm and they are teenagers but it is half term etc.....

Followed by an advert for erectile problems!

I'm no prude but please come on! My kids were pretty revolted particularly my daughter and said 'Yuk, women aren't sexual play things for men' which was the implication of the advert.

I know porn is widely available but we click or don't click but an advert when we are relaxing watching a Pottery Programme -give me a break.

9pm is the watershed. Can always watch pottery on catch up.

ColaOlaLa · 01/06/2021 21:44

Sorry this did make me laugh, I haven’t watched tv in ages as I don’t really watch it so don’t know the advert but I did use to hate when the durex adverts came on when I was sat with family 🤦‍♀️

JellyTumble · 01/06/2021 21:45

YABU. Watershed is 9pm.

Namechangeforthis2021 · 01/06/2021 21:50

As I've already said the watershed is 9pm.

But it's different in different countries -did you know that!!??

On another note the Love Honey advert is a feminist issue for me -all the women running around a dressing up for their "men" as well as no hint of LGBTQ+ - I know I will moan about everything!!

Erectile dysfunction doesn't fall into the 'overly sexual' category. It's a medical condition. If anything I think it's good that it's starting to get exposure. Many relationships and men's mental health have been ruined by ED.

LittleGwyneth · 01/06/2021 21:57

Sorry but you absolutely are a prude. It being half term doesn't change the rules around watershed. If you don't like it, pay for a subscription to All 4 so you don't get any adverts.

And as a side note - dressing up in lingerie doesn't make you a 'play thing' for a man.

jollyhollyday · 01/06/2021 21:58

There's watershed and then there's a sexually explicit advert. 9pm is not late enough in my opinion. You are right, it is bordering on porn and I'm not a prude either.

Justanotherlurker · 01/06/2021 21:59

It's an ad for a company that has made millions selling sex toys to women primarily, the advert is placed at specific times and on channels to make maximum targetted reach, looks like 9:30 pm on Really has proven to be successful, especially considering the advert is a couple of years old.

You saying you're not a prude and yet conflating it with porn is somewhat contradictory, this is the advert and I'm struggling to see the porn or 'women aren't sexual play things for men' angle.

GallopingGreen · 01/06/2021 22:00

Yanbu- totally agree with you OP.

BreedingOinkers · 01/06/2021 22:01

Erectile dysfunction shouldn’t be hidden away. It’s a medical issue, not porn

Charliebradbury · 01/06/2021 22:01

I've not seen the advert however I will say that lovehoney are quite an inclusive company in regards to lgbt+ and they a very body positive and female sex positive. They do not suggest women dress up just to please their men etc.
The advert will have been checked before broadcast so it must be deemed appropriate. I watch all TV on catch up tbh so that might solve the problem for you.

Notashandyta · 01/06/2021 22:02

I agree

CroneAVirus · 01/06/2021 22:02

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being prudish.

The idea that children and teenagers ought to be exposed to naked bodies and sexual adverts where women dress for the male gaze, is a bit ‘groom-y’.

Children don’t need to see that shit. Anyone who thinks it’s ‘healthy’ or ‘normal’ to show teenagers images of women in fetishistic lingerie, or adverts about men not being able to get erections, needs to have a word with themselves.

Post 9pm is not okay. Should be post 11pm.

Notashandyta · 01/06/2021 22:02

I don't want to see unsolicited flashing from either sex with my cuppa thanks

Charliebradbury · 01/06/2021 22:03

Actually I have seen that advert before. Its nothing to do with women dressing up to please men. It has all sorts of different types of couples. It's just bums.... and it's not even a whip...

ColaOlaLa · 01/06/2021 22:04

yeh that add is a bit too much I think!

ThorFull · 01/06/2021 22:04

Wow. Weird responses.
It’s half term. My 7 year old is watching a film. It’s not fully dark yet.
He’s far too young for love honey adverts, watershed or not.
Probably too young to still be up, but he is. And I still wouldn’t expect love honey adverts before 10 or 11.

Namechangeforthis2021 · 01/06/2021 22:04

The comment actually came from one of my teenage daughters.

If not liking porn BTW makes me a prude -so be it. I don't like the porn industry and what it represents.

There is definitely a gay couple in at least one of the Lovehoney adverts.

That's how I feel. Actually the watershed specifically says it should be tailed........... eg more sexual much later in the watershed. Why not post 11pm?

TakeYourFinalPosition · 01/06/2021 22:06

They aren’t all straight couples in that advert...

But you’ve acknowledged the answer in your post. The watershed is 9pm; after that, more “adult” ads are allowed.

Biancadelrioisback · 01/06/2021 22:07

If it is that advert posted above, there is a gay couple shown several times, plus images of women and men as they walk towards the bedroom/orgasm, some without any obvious indication whether their sexual partner is male or female, so I completely disagree that it's just showing women as men's play things.

CroneAVirus · 01/06/2021 22:07

‘Prude’ and ‘vanilla’ have become bywords for ‘boundaries’. And for that reason they have also become pejorative.

My 13 year old goes to be at 10.30 in the holidays. I don’t want her watching ‘sex positive’ people with their arses out. Totally inappropriate.

shouldistop · 01/06/2021 22:07

But it's different in different countries -did you know that!!??

What's that got to do with anything!!??

Namechangeforthis2021 · 01/06/2021 22:07

@funnylittlefloozie

There is definitely a gay couple in at least one of the Lovehoney adverts.
I must of missed that, in the one I saw - but funnily enough I'm not going back to watch it again.
