Adverts at 930pm overly too overly sexual...........

Watching the Great British Pottery Throw Down on REALLY with my (teenage) kids and an advert for Love Honey came on and literally far too overt -finished with a woman in suspenders and some kind of straps across her bum cheeks hitting herself with a whip from behind-WTAF? But all the clips were seemingly about the women needing to dress up to impress the man (but that's another issue!!)
I know it is past 9pm and they are teenagers but it is half term etc.....

Followed by an advert for erectile problems!

I'm no prude but please come on! My kids were pretty revolted particularly my daughter and said 'Yuk, women aren't sexual play things for men' which was the implication of the advert.

I know porn is widely available but we click or don't click but an advert when we are relaxing watching a Pottery Programme -give me a break.

It's not disliking porn that makes you a prude, it's objecting to a not particularly explicit advert on television after the watershed, because it's for a company which makes an inclusive range sex toys.

To the people complaining about it being half term: the world does not revolve around the school holidays.

Namechangeforthis2021 · 01/06/2021 22:08

@jollyhollyday

There's watershed and then there's a sexually explicit advert. 9pm is not late enough in my opinion. You are right, it is bordering on porn and I'm not a prude either.
Thanks. This is what I felt.

This made me LOL

there's nothing wrong with women dressing up for their men! LMAO

I dress up for mine, he loves it🤣🤣

I wouldn't class ED as porn and love honey is not that bad I think you maybe need to watch your pottery on catch up! Or better, fast forward the adverts watershed 9pm 🤣🤣🤣

Biancadelrioisback · 01/06/2021 22:09

Yeah you can't expect the watershed to change because it's half term and therefore companies miss out on advertising to their target market because you let your kids watch TV with full understanding of when the watershed is?

shouldistop · 01/06/2021 22:09

It's also not half term everywhere anyway.

Namechangeforthis2021 · 01/06/2021 22:10

@TakeYourFinalPosition

They aren’t all straight couples in that advert...

But you’ve acknowledged the answer in your post. The watershed is 9pm; after that, more “adult” ads are allowed.

As I've already said I know that. But also it is supposed to be tailed -more explicit later etc........
OP posts:
FelicityBeedle · 01/06/2021 22:10

That’s not at all porn ish, good sex isn’t a bad thing! And for all your accusations of it forcing women to dress up for men, that advert was very representative of queer relationships so I don’t know why you’ve decided they had dressed for men

Namechangeforthis2021 · 01/06/2021 22:10

9pm was too early for it. Wasn't expecting it !

I always thought that that Love Honey woman has a great butt (am not gay!)
Missing the point of the thread

CroneAVirus · 01/06/2021 22:11

I completely disagree that it's just showing women as men's play things

Doesn’t fucking matter if it’s showing women as men’s play things, women as women’s play things, men as women’s play things, or men as men’s play things. Children under 16 shouldn’t be exposed to that stuff. And in fact, in any other context, it would be a sexual offence if they were.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 01/06/2021 22:13

Everyone knows the watershed is 9pm.

Its up to us, as parents, to make sure our kids don't see inappropriate things, and those things differ from family to family so it would be impossible to keep everyone happy.

Its hardly difficult in this day and age to watch programmes or films without adverts.

good sex isn’t a bad thing!

... for adults

Why does a teen need to know what good sex involves?

Charliebradbury · 01/06/2021 22:14

It's after 9pm.... it meets all the guidelines etc. The watershed is very clear. If you are really concerned about adverts you just watch on catch up next time.

jollyhollyday · 01/06/2021 22:14

Exactly. Do people think 15 year olds go to bed at 9? Yet at 15 it is illegal to have sex yet it is okay to watch an advert about sex? Irrespective of half term 15 year olds are not tucked up in bed asleep at that time. Sometimes they may want to watch a film with their family not on catch up? And then lo and behold that ad comes on. They know about sex but is it right to have it on display like that at that time at night?
pinkstripeycat · 01/06/2021 22:15

You are a bit of a fusspot. You could make a sexist issue about anything, it was just your perception. Don’t take life too seriously.
Worse things happen: A heavily pregnant woman was knocked over and killed in my town this weekend.
Adverts are nothing to be concerned about

FelicityBeedle · 01/06/2021 22:15

@CroneAVirus because they’ll probably be having sex within a few years! Also love honey sells a lot of stuff for personal use, and teens use those too

Namechangeforthis2021 · 01/06/2021 22:15

Exactly. I deemed the pottery throwdown -fine -they loved it and wanted to watch it. They objected to the advert. And although it was only on briefly I didn't see any men dressing up -only the women.

MyMabel · 01/06/2021 22:18

If your daughter is old and switched on enough to A) understand and feel comfortable saying ‘sexual play things’
And
B ) Recognise and undead tan that no, women aren’t sexual play things. But women like sex, sex is about pleasure, and love honey sell a whoooole lot of pleasure. It’s not wrong to want to satisfy a man. It’s nice to know that what your doing is hitting the right spot.

Then she’s absolutely fine to catch the advert, she can choose to ignore it, or she can make more wise and mature comment like ‘I hope they’re cutting down in plastic packaging’

Justanotherlurker · 01/06/2021 22:18

My 13 year old goes to be at 10.30 in the holidays. I don’t want her watching ‘sex positive’ people with their arses out. Totally inappropriate.

sex positive .... Their sex people Lynne!

Mary whitehouse was born in the wrong century, we have gone full circle where people are parroting an old school conservative.

Regularsizedrudy · 01/06/2021 22:19

I’m your textbook angry feminist but come oooon op! Not everything is for children! I’m in bed by 11pm so when else am I going to find out about lovehoneys great products! (They are great btw). It’s up to you to monitor what your kids watch AFTER THE WATERSHED.

Namechangeforthis2021 · 01/06/2021 22:19

@Charliebradbury

It's after 9pm.... it meets all the guidelines etc. The watershed is very clear. If you are really concerned about adverts you just watch on catch up next time.
So I can choose the programme my teens watch .............but the adverts aren't what I think are suitable -how the hell would I expect that?

Again the 9pm watershed is supposed to be tailed. More explicit as it goes later and later and later

How many 11,12,13,14,15 year olds are in bed at 9pm? Or I now have to record everything and not only vet any programme but also the adverts Grin my girls objected, I agree

OP posts:
Charliebradbury · 01/06/2021 22:20

Maybe you could use it as a starting point to talk to your teenage daughter about sex. Lovehoney is a great company for sexuality and sexual health. You should look at their social media. Do you really think 15 year olds are not viewing much worse than the lovehoney advert, at least love honey talks about it in a consensual, inclusive way.

overnightangel · 01/06/2021 22:20

“ My kids were pretty revolted particularly my daughter and said 'Yuk, women aren't sexual play things for men' which was the implication of the advert.”

Given your other posts I bet your daughter didn’t say this you’re just using it to effect to emphasise your point

Macncheeseballs · 01/06/2021 22:24

You can choose what programme to watch based on its subject matter, not sure you get that choice with ads
