AIBU to HATE baseball caps?

Baseball caps are for baseball players when playing, to protact thier eyes from the sun. Why do so many people wear them everywhere ?
And even worse is when they wear them back-to-front ! WHY? We do not have a climate that needs sun protection 24/7 so , just why? I am baffled.

I kind of get you but you must have heard of fashion and trends.

Blankspace101 · 19/05/2021 20:59

YABU

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 19/05/2021 21:02

You're baffled that people could wear something that you don't like? Really? A bit of an extreme reaction.

Baseball caps are for baseball players when playing
I mean you could say that about a lot of fashion trends surely? Leggings and runners are for the gym, but people wear them everywhere because they're comfortable.

LavendulaAngustifolia · 19/05/2021 21:02

To keep the sun out of their eyes

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 19/05/2021 21:03

Also, FYI you should wear sun protection everyday, rain or shine.

HTH.

NerrSnerr · 19/05/2021 21:04

People wear them because they want to. Jeans started off as workwear. Then there's trainers etc. Polo shirts being for polo players.

We wouldn't be able to wear much if everything could only be for it's original use!

IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0 · 19/05/2021 21:10

Perhaps i am being unreasonable but that doesn't mean I have to like them. Leggings and runners are for the gym so why walk around like you are going there or coming from there if you are not? Surely a gym visit means clean clothes, shower, change, go out? Are you sending a message "I wan't to look like I am going to the gym/have just come from there". Any serious gym goer would know that you are just a joke.

It's more unreasonable to be concerned about what other people choose to wear.

Amammai · 19/05/2021 21:16

So don’t wear them then. Easy!
There are lots of fashion items which I don’t particularly like but I can see why others might.

LadyCatStark · 19/05/2021 21:18

DH wears one because he feels self conscious about his bald patch and it burns easily on the sun. Is that acceptable?

NerrSnerr · 19/05/2021 21:20

You really don't sound very nice. Maybe people wear leggings and runners because they want to or they find them comfortable. Why give so much of a shit what others wear?

Daphnise · 19/05/2021 21:22

Next the OP will be objecting to knickers because they were first worn by miners in the gold rush.

TofuQuinoaKale · 19/05/2021 21:22

I wear them sometimes. Mostly backwards. When I'm not wearing one of an array of odd beanie hats or bucket hats. Apart from shielding my head or face or neck from the sun, they're a bit of a security item for me. No one is ever impressed with my hat-wearing. I've grown too old to listen to a single hat-hating comment from any arsehole now. So on that note, yabu, concentrate on your own wardrobe malfunctions and leave us hat-lovers to our various headgear.

cupsofcoffee · 19/05/2021 21:24

I wear one because I work outside in all weathers and don't want skin damage on my face from the sun. It also helps protect my eyes. I also Shock wear a waterproof one in winter to help keep the rain off my glasses.

Or is all that unacceptable because I'm not a baseball player? Hmm

BashfulClam · 19/05/2021 21:26

My husband has lupus and needs to keep his scalp and face out if the sun or he has a bad reaction even if it’s low UV. That a good enough reason for you?

Topseyt · 19/05/2021 21:27

What about people who are losing their hair due to chemotherapy or medical conditions? Are they allowed to wear them?

I like baseball caps as sun hats.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 19/05/2021 21:30

Well, they do serve a practical purpose! I think that some people can carry them off.....most can't.

Haven't they been worn as fashion since the 80s? And I haven't seen anyone wear one backwards since the fresh prince? How could this make anyone this angry when it's been the norm for decades Grin

Sciurus83 · 19/05/2021 21:35

They keep the sun out of baseball players eyes. And everyone else's eyes. It's very useful if you want the sun off your face. Also leggings are comfortable. Unlike your judgy pants which are clearly causing some chaffing!

dudsville · 19/05/2021 21:38

This isn't new, so yabu for posting 30/40 years too late. And then also yabu for thinking everyone should do what you do.

ProperVexed · 19/05/2021 22:01

I'm not keen on them....but particularly object to them, or indeed any hat, being worn indoors.

SallyCinnabon · 19/05/2021 22:02

Confused Grin

user8783 · 19/05/2021 22:16

Back to front? Grin Have you been watching some Beverley Hills 90210 because I don't think I've seen anyone over the age of 5 wear a baseball cap back to front since the 90s...

Hmm, I suspect you have too much time on your hands.
