AIBU to HATE baseball caps?

Baseball caps are for baseball players when playing, to protact thier eyes from the sun. Why do so many people wear them everywhere ?
And even worse is when they wear them back-to-front ! WHY? We do not have a climate that needs sun protection 24/7 so , just why? I am baffled.

I wouldn't wear one myself, but my daughter has one on lots of the time as she has a rare form of sunlight triggered epilepsy. They are really practical as head wear. They fold up small in your bag and don't get deformed. And you can sit or lay down in them.... You struggle to do this is in a straw boater..

Perhaps i am being unreasonable but that doesn't mean I have to like them. Leggings and runners are for the gym so why walk around like you are going there or coming from there if you are not? Surely a gym visit means clean clothes, shower, change, go out? Are you sending a message "I wan't to look like I am going to the gym/have just come from there". Any serious gym goer would know that you are just a joke.
How long have you been getting this uptight about what other people are wearing?

Leggings and runners (I assume you mean trainers or track suit bottoms?) are very comfortable and practical. That's why people wear them. What's so difficult to understand there?

Likewise with baseball caps. People have many reasons why they may choose to wear something like that. Would you prefer them to be wearing a trilby, a boater, a stetson or a top hat instead? Baseball caps are far more practical.

Pyewackect · 20/05/2021 02:58

I totally agree. I hate them too. I worked in the US and every Red Neck and Hick wore them.

DotCottan · 20/05/2021 03:03

Athleisure is a growing trend.

Ponoka7 · 20/05/2021 03:12

Lots of police and security forces and as schools have adopted them as part of their uniform, because they are so well designed. Why wouldn't people wear them when they do the job so well, available everywhere, are cheap and easily cleaned?
You are way too hung up on what people are wearing. Serious gym goers don't necessarily change after going. Men's clothing look like gym wear. It's only women who get noticed. But why shouldn't we wear practical, comfortable clothing?

1forAll74 · 20/05/2021 03:37

I have seen a few farmers wearing them, when they are driving a tractor,or a combine harvester.or doing barn work.

Iquitit · 20/05/2021 03:37

I used to wear one to work when I was a groom, I rode several horses a day and it was far easier to change my riding hat for baseball cap and back again to keep my hair out of the way than re do it every time, and in sunny weather it was safer to wear one to keep the sun off my face and out of my eyes, as they were safer around horses than sun glasses.

But I guess wanting to see and not get a sunburned face while doing an outside job is really unreasonable 🤷

BritWifeinUSA · 20/05/2021 03:47

My husband wears one for work. They are required to wear a hat due to the conditions they work in. He hasn’t played baseball since he was in high school, although we do enjoy watching it.

Even the president wears one.
GreenWheat · 20/05/2021 04:07

There is a huge range of clothing options available in the world. I guess it's unrealistic to expect that you will like all of them, so just don't buy them. Tell me, though, OP, what goes best with your enormous pair of judgy pants? I would love to know what you favour for your top half 😂😂

thatllberight · 20/05/2021 04:12

Ah but what you don't know is that everyone who you've seen wearing a cap is an off duty professional baseball player.

Notapheasantplucker · 20/05/2021 04:18

I'm baffled that you're baffled...why are you baffled?
Anyway, you sound nice, not judgy at all

IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0 · 20/05/2021 04:34

People can wear whatever they like but that doesn't that I have to like everything that everybody wears! Personal prefernce, you know! There are many good reasons givem here for wearing a cap but there are so many around these days I sometimes just think why?
I also don't like Uggs or crocs or socks with sandals or white socks worn with trousers - so what.

I haven't changed out of my leggings after yoga due to sheer laziness most of the time, plus the fact I'm working from home and not going anywhere particular, except perhaps to walk the dog afterwards. I do most of my yoga outside at this time of year, weather permitting, never anywhere near a gym anyway, and I'm certainly not trying to look like a gym goer.

I agree, OP. May as well have Chav tattooed on your forehead.
and on the back of the neck so it's seen whichever way the cap is on!

Someone tell this poser that he's wearing a BASEBALL cap and as he isn't playing baseball he should take it off immediately.

What on earth does it have to do with you what anyone wears? YABVU.

Yeah, I feel a bit sorry for people who have to wear them for their sport, no-one looks good in a baseball cap or golf hat. Golf visors are even worse. I suppose as a professional once you earn your first million you begin to live with looking like a complete numpty for your work 😂

presumably they keep the sun out of your eyes whether playing baseball or not.
Reasonable cover for a bad hair day..
No one is forcing you to wear one.

clpsmum · 20/05/2021 06:34

Get a life

OodieWoodie · 20/05/2021 06:42

OP, what are your opinions on wearing converse on occasions other than the baseball field?

FWIW, I hate all hats. I have a big head, 'ladies' hats never fit me and I have curly hair so always end up with hat hair.

I know right? It's so chavvy to want to be able to see properly and to protect your skin from sun damage Hmm
