AIBU to HATE baseball caps?

Baseball caps are for baseball players when playing, to protact thier eyes from the sun. Why do so many people wear them everywhere ?
And even worse is when they wear them back-to-front ! WHY? We do not have a climate that needs sun protection 24/7 so , just why? I am baffled.

People can wear whatever they like but that doesn't that I have to like everything that everybody wears! Personal prefernce, you know! There are many good reasons givem here for wearing a cap but there are so many around these days I sometimes just think why? I also don't like Uggs or crocs or socks with sandals or white socks worn with trousers - so what.
You don't have to like it, but equally you don't need to come on MN and be rude about it for no reason.
HarebrightCedarmoon · 20/05/2021 06:58

Oh, are baseball caps the only head coverings available to protect people from the sun?

Of course YABU Hmm

Then why start the thread? Go find something more worthwhile to concern yourself with.

Wear a cap in a shop and security instantly follow you when you walk in

What does it matter if they're not? Hmm why are you so quick to be rude and refer to something as "chavvy"? Is Barack Obama a chav for wearing one? What about Tiger Woods or Andy Murray or Serena Williams?

They're practical, cheap, fold up and fit in a pocket, keep the the sun and rain off my face, keep their shape when I bung them through the washing machine, are breathable and most importantly, are comfortable and don't make my head sweat.

I've never found another piece of headgear that does all of that and costs as little as a fiver.

I have a selection of plain colour/no logo caps. I don't like wearing them (hat hair, etc) but where I live, they're essential during summertime. Plus as others have said, they're easy to clean, carry, etc.

That's the whole point- personal preference. Is your world so small that you find that people wear things that you'd personally choose not to 'baffling'.

SnappyMcSnapface · 20/05/2021 07:32

It’s not like you’re immune to the effects of the sun just because you’re not playing baseball! I have easily-burned skin and eyes which are very sensitive to the sun, so even in the non-tropical climate of central Scotland I wear a baseball cap if I’m spending the day outside to protect myself and stay comfortable.

Rupertpenrysmistress · 20/05/2021 07:33

Well I wear one when I can't be arsed to do my hair. They are comfortable, but I don't wear them back to front. My dd and many other teens wear 'running leggings' instead of jeans etc again comfortable and currently fashionable.

You don't like to look.

Thank you phone

Hilarious how classy these baseball hating posters are; using language like hick, red necks and chavs. I wish people would concentrate more on not being total dicks rather than worrying about what everyone is wearing. That says a far lot more than what hat someone is wearing.

What, like professional golfers? 🤣

@HarebrightCedarmoon of course they're not but people can choose to wear what they want. Life would be dull if we all wore the same uniform every day.

LemonRoses · 20/05/2021 07:55

I’m with you. They’re fine for baseball (assuming American) golf or sailing but I dislike them otherwise. A nice sunhat is so much more effective at keeping the sun off a child’s neck.

Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2021 07:56

What the what now? Although it’s good to see the threads about weird dislikes of total
normal things are making a come back. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2021 07:57

Here’s a picture of Rob Lowe in a baseball cap. He’s a baseball player in the movie so I think it’s allowed.

As a “serious gym goer” I also wear gym leggings for errands and often for the school run as we walk.
I can assure you, nobody else gives a flying shite what anyone else is wearing, certainly doesn’t think them a joke. Are you okay, OP?

DancesWithTortoises · 20/05/2021 08:01

Baseball caps OK for kids. Unacceptable in grown ups.

Why, exactly?

Are children the only age group allowed to wear a cheap, comfortable piece of head gear in order to protect their eyes and face from the sun (and rain in my case)?

ThursdayLastWeek · 20/05/2021 08:05

They are well handy to keep the weather out of your face on runs/walks/the beach.

But I have accepted that only reluctantly because I kind of understand where the OP is coming from,
