AIBU to HATE baseball caps?

Baseball caps are for baseball players when playing, to protact thier eyes from the sun. Why do so many people wear them everywhere ?
And even worse is when they wear them back-to-front ! WHY? We do not have a climate that needs sun protection 24/7 so , just why? I am baffled.

I never once said that the caps shouldn't be allowed. Wear what you like but that doesn't mean I have to like it!
You said they should only be worn by baseball players whilst playing baseball. It's right there in your first post.
LemonRoses · 20/05/2021 08:55

@Sparklingbrook

The school regulation baseball caps had a flap at the back that covered their neck. So no worries there. Smile
Yes, our children’s primary school had those. Ghastly, cheap-looking things that my children didn’t wear. They had a nice enough gingham dress (we didn’t purchase the hideous ones with little heart shaped zip pulls) and introduced baseball caps. Popular culture gets everywhere. Ours continued to go hatless.
Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2021 09:00

@LemonRoses it doesn’t matter whether you think they are ‘cheap looking’. It matters that the children don’t get sunstroke at school sports day etc. Talk about missing the point entirely. Hmm
No idea about gingham dresses zips or otherwise. Confused

No of course it doesn’t matter what I think. My children seemed to manage to avoid both sunstroke and cheap legionnaires caps. It is not I missing the point; they are not essential items of clothing. Baseball caps are not good sun protection; a nice wide brimmed lightweight hat is much more effective.

In fact, the benefits of hats are negligible and baseball caps are about fashion not protection. In high temperatures they can prevent heat loss and risk poor body temperature regulation.

Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2021 09:15

They were compulsory items of uniform at DS’s First School @LemonRoses. So they were essential.
Don’t need a lecture/links about sun hats but thanks anyway. He’s 22 now.

@Ponoka7

Lots of police and security forces and as schools have adopted them as part of their uniform, because they are so well designed. Why wouldn't people wear them when they do the job so well, available everywhere, are cheap and easily cleaned? You are way too hung up on what people are wearing. Serious gym goers don't necessarily change after going. Men's clothing look like gym wear. It's only women who get noticed. But why shouldn't we wear practical, comfortable clothing?
It looks like most is made of cheap man made fibres Lycra and polyester people should not have to wear the revolting crap. Many refuse at a place required to wear it. It fades quite lots and does not breathe Such a shame the world down graded to such a cheap and nasty clothing. Natural fabrics only uniforms thanks
Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2021 09:18

Oh no not man made fibres! The horror! I can’t take this thread seriously at all. 🤣

Gymsmile21 · 20/05/2021 09:20

To be fair when I go to the gym I stay in my gym clothes all day. Privileged enough to get the time to go (I have kids) expecting time on top for a shower is a no.

I shower at night before bed. Maybe I look like someone who doesn’t go to the gym?

NautaOcts · 20/05/2021 09:21

I know some bald men that really suit a baseball cap, facing the right way of course.

Is your gym kit made from man made fibres like polyester or Lycra?Sad
Lilaetlilas · 20/05/2021 09:22

I have no objection to them per se. Horsey folk (of which I am one) wear them a lot because it keeps their hair safely out of the way and the sun out of their eyes and covers up riding hat hair when you are working on the ground with your horse.

What I don't like is when young men wear them indoors, or even worse, at the table. But I realise I sound as though I am ninety objecting to this! Smile

Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2021 09:25

My Nan was very cats bum mouth over my cousin wearing a baseball cap. This was in the 70s, she complained to my Dad about it.
So the snobbery is nothing new along with the wearing of baseball caps.

NautaOcts · 20/05/2021 09:25

Yeah.... I was a bit like you starting out. Sought out the 100% cotton dresses from John Lewis or M&S with buttons rather than a zip...
That didn’t last long! Give me a non iron one any day, and one my child get changed in and out of easily ie. with a zip.

Give it time, you’ll get over yourself dear.

Can we have list of everything you don’t like so we can get it over with at once please?
NotImpossible · 20/05/2021 09:30

I dress for practicality. Should I feel sorry for people who care so much about what they look like that they dress mainly for appearance?

Or maybe I should just not care? Because it's completely up to them and what I see and think is not their problem.

Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2021 09:30

I might grab one of DS2’s baseball caps and go out in it this morning off the back of this thread.

NotImpossible · 20/05/2021 09:34

I like a baseball cap. I used to wear one for sailing but I see that that's one of the 'acceptable' reasons. Phew! I almost commited a fashion faux-pas!

Myphone · 20/05/2021 09:38

I like to do star jumps in the post office queue. Leggings are required. Baseball caps stop me frowning. Nobody likes to see a grumpy face.

GammyLeg · 20/05/2021 09:43

I know what you mean OP - whenever I see someone who isn't a 19th century gold miner wearing them I just rage!

CounsellorTroi · 20/05/2021 09:56

Surely a gym visit means clean clothes, shower, change, go out? Are you sending a message "I wan't to look like I am going to the gym/have just come from there". Any serious gym goer would know that you are just a joke.

My gym now requests you go there “gym ready” to keep numbers in changing rooms down. So if you saw me in my gym clothes I really would be on my way to the gym.

SoupDragon · 20/05/2021 10:20

a nice wide brimmed lightweight hat

Again, define "nice". You think a wide brimmed hat is nice, others think a baseball cap is nice. Neither is wrong.

SallyCinnabon · 20/05/2021 10:54

Some people (OP included) are stuck in the 50s (of some Waltons/Little house in the prairie alternate universe 🤣) there’s nothing wrong with a baseball cap, it’s just a hat. A type of hat. It’s worn as both a fashion item and for practical purposes. I just can’t cope with some of these responses 🤣🤣🤣

CirqueDeMorgue · 20/05/2021 10:57

Any serious gym goer would know that you are just a joke.

Are these the same 'serious gym goers' who drive to their local gym to use the treadmill?

CirqueDeMorgue · 20/05/2021 11:04

Also, I have a baseball cap for hot weather so on that basis, yabu.

TheMNChicken · 20/05/2021 11:05

Serious gym goers 😂
