AIBU to HATE baseball caps?

Baseball caps are for baseball players when playing, to protact thier eyes from the sun. Why do so many people wear them everywhere ?
And even worse is when they wear them back-to-front ! WHY? We do not have a climate that needs sun protection 24/7 so , just why? I am baffled.

I love hats and I wear all sorts when it's sunny, including baseball hats and visors because I hate the sun in my face. I'll take looking like a numpty to random strangers anyday than being uncomfortable.

Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2021 11:12

Here’s a nice wide brimmed sun hat, both stylish and practical. Wink

@DancesWithTortoises

Baseball caps OK for kids. Unacceptable in grown ups.
What else can I ask your permission to wear please?
OldkermitSippingtea · 20/05/2021 11:28

@Sparklingbrook

Oh no not man made fibres! The horror! I can’t take this thread seriously at all. 🤣
It's unbelievable!😄
Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2021 11:30

I need to go out but I have to wait for the postman to tell him that he can’t wear his cap any more. He’ll be gutted. Sad

OldkermitSippingtea · 20/05/2021 11:33

@NotImpossible

I dress for practicality. Should I feel sorry for people who care so much about what they look like that they dress mainly for appearance?

Or maybe I should just not care? Because it's completely up to them and what I see and think is not their problem.

I know. You have to wonder about those who're overly concerned about "looking cheap". There's wanting something to be of good value and there's not wanting to "look poor" to strangers/friends/family.

I know there's a saying somewhere...

Heggspok · 20/05/2021 11:43

I have a few that I wear, I like how they look and they're much more practical then some of the hat suggestions on this thread!

Edume · 20/05/2021 11:46

Someone better tell Kate she's a chav now. Best tell all of America and Canada too...although they're unlikely to give a fuck what a bunch of judgemental Brits think.

I had high hopes this thread was going to be about the trend (fairly old now but I live out in the sticks were fashions linger much longer among the yoof)... of wearing the baseball cap perched high up on the head where it will fall off should the wearer so much as blink...

This version of balancing a cap on top of ones head gives me the UTTER RAGE and makes me want to kick the wearer in the balls... it is clearly deeply U...

But baseball caps worn properly - fine, no issue, don't like it, don't wear it.
I still have my trusty Marvin the Martian cap which I've had since I was 14, and wore on every stable yard I've worked on, as moving from light to dark in and out of stables/indoor school etc, it's not practical to keep putting on or taking off sunglasses, particularly for trhose of us who have to swap our prescription specs out for prescription sunglasses.

@NautaOcts

They had a nice enough gingham dress (we didn’t purchase the hideous ones with little heart shaped zip pulls)

Yeah.... I was a bit like you starting out. Sought out the 100% cotton dresses from John Lewis or M&S with buttons rather than a zip...
That didn’t last long! Give me a non iron one any day, and one my child get changed in and out of easily ie. with a zip.

Give it time, you’ll get over yourself dear.

Hah. My youngest is 22. A bit late to change my stance about primary school dresses now, I fear.

Oh no that way of wearing baseball caps hasn’t reached rural Worcestershire just yet. 😂
MaryThorne · 20/05/2021 13:49

YABUHmm

Would you feel better if people were wearing flat caps instead OP? Berets? Baker boy caps? Bowler hats?WinkGrin

notacooldad · 20/05/2021 13:51

Perhaps i am being unreasonable but that doesn't mean I have to like them.
I don't like polo or turtle neck jumpers but it would never occur to me that I was BU or start a thread about one!
This has got to be in the top 5 of the most pointless and ridiculous posts ever!
😂😂

HunterAngel · 20/05/2021 13:51

Because without a hat I get horrible headaches in strong sunlight that leave me flat on my back in a dark room for the rest of the day. Because they fit better then other hats and I don’t have to spend ages finding a hat that fits and looks decent. Because I don’t enjoy sunburn, especially on my face.

What’s it matter to you what I wear?

SoupDragon · 20/05/2021 13:54

And perfect for social distancing.
Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2021 13:57

Good point @SoupDragon. Grin No burnt neck and nobody anywhere near you. Perfect.

CatPurple · 20/05/2021 13:58

You seem to be very happy airing your thoughts on others’ clothing choices. What do you wear OP? Why not post a few photos of you in your standard outfits and we’ll all give our thoughts?

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 20/05/2021 14:03

Agree OP. children should be wearing something practical and made of natural fibres like this. Those newfangled Amish straw hats are unacceptable.

Brilliant!!
ZaraW · 20/05/2021 14:35

OP you'll be pleased to know they are back in fashion.

stampo · 20/05/2021 14:43

I wore mine today to keep the driving rain off my face as i walked the dog. I think they look cool on most people but not indoors

I wore mine today for the same reason Grin

It meant I could actually see what I was doing as opposed to being blind as a bat as I can't function at all without my glasses on!

WTFisNext · 20/05/2021 14:53

YABU

I have a stupid shaped head, the only hats that fit without making me look even more ridiculous than I already do are baseball caps.

Sunny weather = baseball cap
Raining = baseball cap (especially when running)
Freezing cold = yep baseball cap

Of course maybe I should just forgo any kind of protection or comfort because gasp people might be judging me Shock

Why, thank you "notacooldad". Over the years I have read so many pointless and ridiculous threads on MN, I'm rather chuffed that you're puttung mine right up there in the top 5!

Mmmm, but is your baseball cap 100% cotton? Or is it made out of those ghastly man made fibres. Sad need to know so I can judge your case correctly. Could it even be a snap back? Shock
