AIBU to HATE baseball caps?

Baseball caps are for baseball players when playing, to protact thier eyes from the sun. Why do so many people wear them everywhere ?
And even worse is when they wear them back-to-front ! WHY? We do not have a climate that needs sun protection 24/7 so , just why? I am baffled.

When DC were at school there was a regulation school baseball cap.
My postman wears a Royal Mail one so I need to tell him it’s not allowed because someone on the internet said so. Sad

cupsofcoffee · 20/05/2021 08:07

@LemonRoses

I’m with you. They’re fine for baseball (assuming American) golf or sailing but I dislike them otherwise. A nice sunhat is so much more effective at keeping the sun off a child’s neck.
What about other outdoor sports or activities? Or is it just those three that make baseball caps acceptable?

I'm a dog walker and wear one all day everyday in the summer as it protects my eyes and face well, it's cheap, washes and dries overnight and folds easily into a pocket or walking belt or stuffed into the door of my car

I've never found another piece of headgears that's as cheap and practical as a baseball cap.

NerrSnerr · 20/05/2021 08:07

@DancesWithTortoises as you seem to have some kind of authority on the subject can you tell us what else is acceptable or unacceptable to wear?

RaspberryCoulis · 20/05/2021 08:08

Totally agree, OP. Look at this pair, what a chav.

OP, I feel your pain! I think it’s the ubiquity of certain styles of clothing that slightly depresses me - as if everyone is obeying some unwritten law. In my part of the world, the uniform (regardless of age, gender or any other factor) is grey jogging bottoms, grey hoodie, grey baseball cap - occasionally the latter has cartoon characters on it. Any street is just a sea of grey. We might say individual choice, but why does everyone make the same one? And why so drab? I totally get the wearing of a hat with a brim to keep the sun off, but when it’s freezing? And the middle of winter?

Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2021 08:09

The school regulation baseball caps had a flap at the back that covered their neck. So no worries there. Smile

Perhaps i am being unreasonable but that doesn't mean I have to like them. Leggings and runners are for the gym so why walk around like you are going there or coming from there if you are not? Surely a gym visit means clean clothes, shower, change, go out? Are you sending a message "I wan't to look like I am going to the gym/have just come from there". Any serious gym goer would know that you are just a joke.
You can't be a serious gym goer then 😂. I've just been to the gym and changed into leggings as I work from home and they're comfortable. Do the same 6 days a week, I like comfort and I don't need to wear work clothes until I'm in the office. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean people can't wear it...

Grow up. YABU.

FangsForTheMemory · 20/05/2021 08:13

I wear leggings to hike in during the winter because they get less muddy than trousers and running shoes because they support my feet best so I think you should grow up and stop being so intolerant.

Hopdathelf · 20/05/2021 08:14

Fellow “serious gym goer” here. I can say on behalf of all by fellow serious gym goers that none of us give a fuck if you do the school run in leggings or tracksuit bottoms. We do not think you are trying muscle in on our “serious gym goer” look and we’re probably quite pleased that the proliferation of athleisure as a trend because it means there is a wider array than ever before for us to choose from when selecting our outfits for serious gym going.

Honestly OP there might be a million and one mundane things you don’t like, there’s no need to start a thread on them then adopt increasingly ridiculous positions when all but a few disagree with you.

NerrSnerr · 20/05/2021 08:15

Where on earth do you live @Craftycorvid? Lots of people wear grey joggers round here (but mainly young people) but not a see of grey at all.

Horehound · 20/05/2021 08:16

Any serious gym goer would know that you are just a joke.
Lol no they wouldn't. In this day and age it's acceptable to wear "active-wear" without people immediately thinking you're off to the gym or coming back from the gym

Sounds like you have issues.

AuntieMarys · 20/05/2021 08:16

I don't like them either. I don't like other things.....cold shoulder tops, wolf fleeces and Superdry tshirts to name but 3.

Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2021 08:17

F1 drivers. Are they allowed to wear them?

The sun still shines when it's cold and in the middle of winter Shock

I also wear mine when it's raining as it helps keeps the rain off my glasses and I can't carry an umbrella around all day at work.

Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2021 08:20

I think lots of people have been wearing them during lockdown to cover up nightmare hair due to the hairdressers being closed.

🤷‍♀️

Pinkylemons · 20/05/2021 08:21

My DH has always worn a cap since the day I met him. He looks a bit weird without it to be honest. He’s 50 now and bald so it stops his head from getting cold in winter and burning in summer.. YABU

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 20/05/2021 08:21

I think it was Norman Wisdom who introduced wearing caps are odd angles.

That's how everyone looks to me who wears a baseball cap awkwardly (except, of course, Babe Ruth)

Define "nice sun hat". You can't - everyone has a different definition of "nice"

I wear them to hike in winter but under trousers because it's freezing here.

This thread is ridiculous. YABVU.

IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0 · 20/05/2021 08:29

I never once said that the caps shouldn't be allowed. Wear what you like but that doesn't mean I have to like it!

Can you explain why if baffles you though?

Here’s a child’s baseball cap with a neck flap. John Lewis. A fiver.
