Discussing Palestinian Oppression part 2

Faffandahalf · 16/05/2021 09:28

Just starting another thread as the other one is full.

Please keep talking about Palestinian occupation and oppression.

Please follow Palestinian support groups like Friends of Al Aqsa and Mohammed el Kurd (an amazing Sheikh Jarrah citizen) on Twitter and Insta to get info from the ground. This will take you to other sources of infor coming out of Palestine.

Please keep Palestine part of the conversation and on social media so it’s not forgotten about.

Supporting Palestine is not anti Semitic
Criticising Israel is not anti Semitic.

As an aside I have not once seen the previous thread in active after page 1.
So MN have let the thread stand after numerous complaints of censorship but still odd that it never came up as active.

Anyone who disagrees with you must be paid. It must all be part of an Israeli conspiracy because the idea that long-term MN users could disagree with you is just impossible unless they were paid to do so!!

It's important to confront the 'you are all anti- Semitic' brigade who want to shut down legitimate debate

So it seems and were called fascists on the first thread and constantly accused of trying to shut down debate and to get any threads deleted, derailing etc etc

Netanyahu said: “There is talk about international pressure. There is always pressure but all in all we are receiving very serious backing, first of all from the US,”

The US on Monday blocked a UN Security Council statement calling for de-escalation, cessation of violence and respect for international law, according to two UN diplomats, marking the third such time the US has blocked a statement or softer measures since the violence began

There are about 40 schools in the whole of Gaza Strip and no they weren’t all destroyed...you are mixing up some details.

But people are being killed and the destruction is real. I donated to aid organization and propose we all do the same.

I have to bow off this thread (as my Israeli handlers don’t pay me enough and I do I have job to do and small kids to care for tomorrow Hmm)

I would suggest though to learn a bit more about the issue at hand. If you think that Israel can destroy 40 schools something clearly doesn’t add up...

Flaxmeadow · 17/05/2021 22:36

These people are not Palestinian though so I'm not sure why its being mentioned in this context unless you think it somehow justifies Israel's behaviour

They are Pakistani heritage but they are waving Palestine flags and terrorising neighbourhoods. In the house smashing incident, the perpetrators say they saw something online they didn't agree with, allegedly.

It was a reply to a conversation I was in with Menoismymate. Who asked me to provide evidence. More or less accused me of propaganda.

Despite growing international pressure to seek a ceasefire, Netanyahu said on Sunday that the offensive against Hamas would continue for some time as Israel sought to exact a “heavy price” on the group for rocket attacks on Israeli civilians. Israel will inevitably “win” this round of fighting once it has “mowed the grass,” as some in the Israeli security community offensively describe these military campaigns. In practice, that will mean killing some Hamas militants along with many innocent bystanders, and destroying a lot of vital civilian infrastructure in Gaza, all in the effort to degrade the ability and/or willingness of militants to launch more rockets'

This will be a hollow victory, however, as it will only return Israel to a status quo of ever-present tension and threat: in Jerusalem, the West Bank, Gaza, and every Israeli town where Jews and Arabs live in close proximity. The only real winner here is the man who sold Israelis on the idea that this state of permanent war and occupation is acceptable: Netanyahu himself

NY Magazine.

It is ironic that the current violence should benefit Netanyahu politically, because it graphically illustrates his failures. He has buried the peace process, foreclosed the possibility of a Palestinian state, brought virulently anti-Arab Kahanists into his government, and opted to “manage” the conflict rather than resolve it. His message to Palestinians in the occupied territories and to Arab citizens of Israel is that they will always be treated as the enemy, that their rights will always be secondary to the rights of Jews, and that the state that rules over them (directly or indirectly) will never value their lives. His message to Israeli Jews is equally bleak: The conflict is existential, the Arabs will always despise you, and so you must fortify against them and accept a perpetual state of war or ceasefire, but never actual peace.

A dozen years of this divisive right-wing leadership has fomented extremism and racism, alienated Israel from American Jews and the community of Western democracies, and led to political paralysis, stagnation, and civil strife. The Jerusalem Post — hardly a left-wing rag — published an editorial on Saturday urging Bennett to reconsider his decision to abandon the change coalition, charging that “the current leadership has invested itself tirelessly in weakening the democratic institutions of the country” and that Israel is “in desperate need of change.” Even many right-leaning Israelis can see that Netanyahu has been putting his own interests before the country’s interests for some time.

The Jerusalem Post editors call for a “restart coalition” dedicated to “strengthening the foundations of this country as both a Jewish and a democratic state.” It’s hard to imagine what such a coalition would look like, however, when most of the key players in Israeli politics are only interested in one half of that vision

Me neither. I have a 9yo.

Which is why I wrote what I wrote - talk about how to make lives of girls like her better. Now. In this reality. Give her a real chance to have a life like the one our children have.

Don’t make her a hero. Don’t make her a martyr. Don’t enable Hamas and their handlers to use her suffering and cover up their dirty asses, expensive homes and rockets. Don’t use her suffering to enable fantasies of returning to grandfathers home in Haifa. Or freeing Al Aqsa.

Give her a chance to live out what’s left of her childhood...or at least don’t enable those who won’t. On both sides.

StoneofDestiny · 17/05/2021 22:46

As bombardments in Gaza and southern Israel continue, Save the Children can confirm that at least thirty-one schools and a health facility in Gaza have been damaged by Israeli airstrikes. The 31 schools in Gaza are attended by over 24,000 children.3 days ago

This was 3 days ago from Save the Children. Today the UN published 40 schools.
