Why has the last thread been taken down with a ‘goady op’ message?
What’s so goady about asking why we can’t criticise the actions of Israel?
Don’t even give a shit this is a TAAT and will get zapped.

Palestine exists. Ethnic cleansing is happening. And every single thread gets taken down.

Only one person on that thread shouted anti semitism. Every one else was mostly in agreement about what is happening and it still gets zapped.

I’ll once again direct people to friends of al Aqsa on Instagram and Twitter in the hopes people see this and would like some real information.

Israel is an occupying oppressor committing genocide and the Palestinians are an oppressed people. There is no comparison in the force power and might of these two groups esp when one has the backing and funding of the US.

Seriously pissed at MN for refusing to allow truths to be told about the situation

There’s a lot of one sided anti Israeli PR going on on this thread

No I’m not sure there is either, and I’m not sure PR is a good choice of words.

Thanks MNHQ for letting this discussion run, some of the other forums I use have shut these threads down.

Greenmarmalade · 14/05/2021 21:37

Anti-Israel PR? Are you having a laugh?

Facts copied from the guardian:

‘The death toll in Gaza rose to over 120, with a sharp increase in the number of people injured in the overnight onslaught, according to the Gaza health ministry. At least 31 children have been killed.’

‘Nine people have been killed in Israel, including a child and a soldier.’

I am fucking furious. We all should be.

Acidburn · 14/05/2021 21:46

@Greenmarmalade your anger is missplaced. Blame the terrorists.

justasecond · 14/05/2021 21:46

Anti Israel PR lol is that all you care about?

Recognizing the suffering of the Palestinians due to the creation of Israel is an important first step in my opinion. I grew up with a narrative that the Palestinians had all just voluntarily left. It didn't quite make sense to me at the time (all sounded way too convenient) and, of course, the truth is far more complex - some fled in fear, some were forced out.

This originated in the "A land without people for people without a land" myth promulgated after WW2. A lot of people arriving from Europe after considerable suffering were very shocked when they discovered what a lie that was, and that if they were to have that land, the people who had been there for generations were going to have to be removed from it and forced to suffer as they had themselves.

(My father knew some of them who managed to come here instead in the end. But it wasn't easy for them to do so, because dumping them in Palestine was an easier option for the Powers.)

Jente has linked to something rather better than many sites, but I'll do it again because I was going to anyway: www.btselem.org/gaza_strip/20200818_gaza_water_scarce_polluted_mostly_unfit_for_use

WaterAid are doing good stuff for Gaza as well.

Anyone in Israel who cares about the suffering of children in Gaza might consider donating to either of those charities to do a little bit to help make those children's lives a little less horrendous.

I don't know how much actual good these people do, but

Oh, and in case anyone thinks that first website is biased, giving only one side: www.btselem.org/israeli_civilians

Look what happened when the US and UK got involved with Iraq...whenever others get involved it gets worse. Its bad now imagine how bad if countries join in as they did with other problems in the middle East.
Damned if do damned if don't

Talking is the way forward as happened in NI
... sitting down

GoingOnABarHunt · 14/05/2021 22:19

Public opinion is shifting which is leading to action such as in the image I’ve attached. This is why it is so important to keep sharing, posting and calling out the actions of the Israeli government/IDF. Thank you mumsnet for keeping this thread up.

Hamas are also killing their own - they fire 1000s of rockets into Israel knowing exactly what will happen and that civilians will die and yes they know the PR it will bring them worldwide. I don't deny that Israel does shitty things but too many here are blind to what drives the Israelis to make sure they can protect their people, their families and children in an area with neighbours who would happily see them wiped out cos they’ve never faced that before have they. Wonder how you would all feel being jewish, living raising your children in that region where the threat of rocket attacks, constant stabbing attacks, suicide bombers, having to send your 18 yr old children into the army to come face to face with the horror of the conflict. You’re dehumanising the Israelis, expecting them to suck it up as they deserve it, disappointed that more of them aren’t dying or being punished more - while you all sit safe in the UK with your children never having to face the real threat of having neighbours who want you and your children dead and would carry it out if the could

Replace the word ‘Israeli’ with ‘Palestinian’ and read it back.

I love how over 70+ posts later and a week after this thread started it's still here despite the thread title

Replace the word ‘Israeli’ with ‘Palestinian’ and read it back

Exactly

As for not being blind to what drives the Israelis to make sure they can protect their people - so why did they try and for Palestinians out of their homes?

Wonder how you would all feel being jewish, living raising your children in that region

I'd be utterly ashamed of the Israeli Government and make sure my voice was heard loud and clear in protesting against them.

StoneofDestiny · 14/05/2021 23:53

The UN said more than 200 homes and 24 schools in Gaza had been destroyed or severely damaged in Israeli air raids in the past five days. It also said residents’ access to fresh water could be limited because of power cuts and damage to pipe networks

The Gaza Strip is an area smaller than the Isle of Wight with over 2 million people crammed into it and nowhere to escape. The world's largest open air prison, and they don't have a multi billion dollar state of the art missile defence system to protect them either. Like shooting fish in a barrel for the Israelis.

How dare the Israelis spend a fortune protecting their people from constant rocket attacks - I’m sure if you and your children faced the same attacks you’d petition your government to let the rockets rain down (for fairness) and let your children take their chances

Abi86 · 15/05/2021 00:22

“ The number of rockets fired each day in the most recent spate of hostilities is unprecedented. And while the majority of the rockets appear to be aimed at population centers across southern and central Israel, longer-range rockets were launched at Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. ”

www.nytimes.com/2021/05/13/world/middleeast/gaza-rockets-hamas-israel.html

While the sentiments here are admirable, the reality is, as I said in my last post, that Israel will respond proportionally to indiscriminate attacks from terrorist states. The unguided rocket batteries are intentionally sighted under cover/concealment (read in populous areas). The collateral damage and civilian deaths are a direct result of this intentional act (civilian casualties are no concern to terrorists - in fact it furthers their cause). I’ll bet a dollar to a cent that Israel are, in all likelihood, exclusively using precision munitions to minimise collateral. The response from Israel is, by in large, both proportionate and measured. The bottom line is that Israel wouldn’t be bombing targets located in Gaza if they weren’t under indiscriminate rocket attack.

Ikeasucks · 15/05/2021 00:24

Replace the word ‘Israeli’ with ‘Palestinian’ and read it back.

I do actually - i get why the Palestinians feel as they do, they have it shit- my beef with the hypocrisy on this thread isn’t with them (though I don’t infantilise them and refuse to acknowledge that they played a part in making unwise choice after unwise choice in this conflict) - it’s with people in the UK lacking imagination and sitting safe (with their children) who bolster up the Palestinians unwise choice after unwise choice and encourage them to keep
makings unwise choices by telling them they are nothing but innocent victims (who in hindsight could have made better choices) with the moral high ground - whilst sitting safe (with their children) in the UK

Jente · 15/05/2021 00:49

And on it goes

You just cannot talk about Palestine on this forum
Ikeasucks · 15/05/2021 01:27

I guess next time terrorists run amok in Borough Market we have to make sure we send in the same amount of policemen to tackle it - armed with knives to make it a fair fight. How on earth are we going to make amends for our involvement in N Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan etc trying to minimise death and harm to our troops by using our superior training, technology and weaponary where we killed countless civilians/children - who wants to offer up themselves and children in the spirit of eaksy peaksyness

Jente · 15/05/2021 01:29

Photos circulating of children burned alive by IDF bombing. I won't link, too distressing. They'll be dismissed as fake, they always are. The IDF will lie once again about using white phosphorus and it's war crimes. It always does. The US and UK will release stage management 'both sides' soundbites. They always do.

Jente · 15/05/2021 01:31

States can be terrorists too. And they will always have people who support them.

Ikeasucks · 15/05/2021 01:52

And Hamas are sending 1000s of rockets into Israel indiscriminately targeting civilians including children. Darn those Israelis for not letting every rocket strike a civilian target - no fair
