Just that really...SNP did absolutely brilliantly. Shows that the majority of the Scottish people are behind them. Am I right in thinking they will get their independence in a couple of years?

Show me the money.

BilboBercow · 09/05/2021 20:32

Honestly? I don't think Nicola wants independence now.

Thunderpunt · 09/05/2021 20:32

I'd prefer the Scots not to leave the union but if it shuts up that bloody Nicola Sturgeon for 5 minutes
I'm happy for it to happen

wishiwasabraverman · 09/05/2021 20:32

@BilboBercow really? why do you think that?

@Bluebird1234 a biscuit? Why? Because I dare to have a differing opinion than yourself? Shows how intolerant you are really.

I am strongly opposed to independence and I really fear for our future. I really hope people open their eyes to the financial impact it will have on us

FoxyTheFox · 09/05/2021 20:35

I don't know if it'll happen within the next few years but I can see the idea of independence being used a means to piss off Boris Johnson and make him look like the bumbling fool he is when he refuses to allow the vote and then tries to waffle his way through the resulting crisis.

Timper · 09/05/2021 20:35

Seriously hope not.

brokengate · 09/05/2021 20:35

She will make sure there is a second once in a lifetime vote. Whether that is successful I am not so sure. Certainly round here snp were lesser of two evils between them and conservative. People voting snp and people voting independence are often two different things.

Timper · 09/05/2021 20:36

Not every vote for SNP was a vote for independence.

CoolCatTaco · 09/05/2021 20:37

I hope so, and I hope a united Ireland follows.

Aprilx · 09/05/2021 20:38

No I don’t think that, there won’t even be a referendum in the next few years.

VladmirsPoutine · 09/05/2021 20:38

I don't want Scotland to leave but given Brexit and the surrounding discussion about self determination I can't see that stopping them would prove useful. I think they will eventually vote out and it will be thoroughly terrible for all.

wishiwasabraverman · 09/05/2021 20:39

@Aprilx ohhh I think you're wrong Grin

Yes and good luck to them. I’m English but if I was in their position I wouldn’t want to be in the union anymore either.

Pintosmash · 09/05/2021 20:41

I voted yes to independence at the last one, which was described as once in a generation. I don't particularly want a one now, it was 7 years ago, I don't want to be on an endless referendum roundabout, if this one fails again will we be doing another one in 7 more? I'm referendum-ed out to be honest.

BilboBercow · 09/05/2021 20:42
@BilboBercow really? why do you think that?
She's now saying they won't push for a new referendum until Covid is gone for good which could be another few years. I feel like she's very comfortable in her position and doesn't want to do anything to risk it.

blueberryporridge · 09/05/2021 20:43

I'm not sure that Nicola and her cabal actually want independence, and they are definitely not in a rush for it, which is very depressing and frustrating for those of us who want away from toxic Westminster as soon as possible.

wishiwasabraverman · 09/05/2021 20:45

The once in a generation referendum people keep speaking about was based on lies though. I honestly don't think another referendum would be on the horizon if it weren't for brexit and the lies we were fed in order to keep us @Pintosmash I also agree that if the next referendum is a no then it should be respected.

She was certainly walking it back on the news earlier - she indicated that she doesn't mean to do indy2 in the immediate wake of covid.

Seems sensible to me, hopefully she sticks to it.

Whoops wrong thread

SylviasMotherSaid · 09/05/2021 21:36

The overall vote for Unionist parties was higher than the vote for the SNP.

hattiecattie · 09/05/2021 21:37

@SylviasMotherSaid that is in fact untrue
