She posted the below statement in response to channel 5 tv show made called “Celebrities what happened to your face”.

To think Charlotte Crosby is completely right here

YANBU Channel 5 seem to have turned into the old News of The World, crossed with the Daily Mail.

bonfireheart · 24/04/2021 11:29

I don't know about the show but saw her tweet and couldn't believe it. This is not just awful for her wellbeing and mental health but also anyone else watching it who will now have low self esteem about how they look. So irresponsible. How would the makers of it like it if someone critiqued their appearance? And irony of ironies, trending on twitter this morning was people commenting on how Zac Effron looks - trolls and the like really need to take a look at themselves and into their sad souls.

Fedup1223 · 24/04/2021 11:33

@WorraLiberty

I agree but sort of think it’s even worse as they’re making an hour long doc out of what would likely be a 500 word piece of copy.

FizzyApricot · 24/04/2021 11:37

Where can we complain to?

FionnulaTheCooler · 24/04/2021 11:38

The fact this show was made and aired is a disgrace, especially so soon after Nikki Grahame died due to her life long struggle with her looks and self esteem which caused her eating disorder. Really poor judgement call by Channel 5.

ZaraW · 24/04/2021 11:39

It's awful but if there wasn't the demand the programme wouldn't have been made? The Daily Mail is awful but it's women who are the biggest readers yet it's so misogynistic. The people who watch these programmes also have some responsibility.

I've never heard of Charlotte Grove but agree with her 100%.

Forevercurious · 24/04/2021 11:40

I completely agree! a ridiculous show - who allowed this to go ahead given the whole ‘be kind’ campaign?

araiwa · 24/04/2021 11:40

Are Charlotte Shore and Charlotte Crosby the same person?

WorraLiberty · 24/04/2021 11:42

@araiwa

Are Charlotte Shore and Charlotte Crosby the same person?
Yes, I'm guessing the 'g shore' stands for Geordie Shore.
Fedup1223 · 24/04/2021 11:42

@ZaraW I think it’s a self fulfilling thing. The shows get made, people demand more of them. I don’t think it’s an excuse.

OP posts:
AuntyHope · 24/04/2021 11:47

It's Charlotte G Shore as in Charlotte off of Geordie Shore, her name is Charlotte Crosby. So yes they are the same person.

I can see a lot of similarities with Charlotte and other reality Stars, like Nikki Grahame. They got famous off being dysfunctional women (to laugh at) in reality tv, but are also likeable because they seem like normal, relatable nice people (although naive and emotionally dysregulated). The media love to hate celebrities who have plastic surgery too, look at all the shit Katie Price has been through. This is nothing new, but it really should be old now. Channel 5 should know better.

Poptart4 · 24/04/2021 11:48

But it's ok to pick apart the Kardashians??

Don't get me wrong I despise everything the Kardashians stand for but these type of shows are made about them and other celebs all the time and no bats an eye. But because you like Charlotte Crosby suddenly it's not ok?

I personally cant stand all these z list celebs being handed millions for pissing the bed and having sex on TV. Also all the plastic surgery they have putting pressure on young girls to look a certain way.

Charlotte has no talent whatsoever but has made an extremely good living from fame. Unfortunately this is the bad side of that. We all have to take the good with the bad.

The OP hasn't mentioned liking Charlotte Crosby.

Personally I could pass her in the street along with the Kardashians and not even know (had to Google Charlotte).

You don't have to have a 'stake' in this to know it's a disgusting thing to do to someone.

Fedup1223 · 24/04/2021 11:59

@Poptart4 I don’t think it’s ok to pick apart anyone based on how they look really.
But as the statement is from Charlotte Crosby, that’s what I’ve posted.

I’ve never watched Georgie Shore - so don’t know quite as much about her as you seem to - but when I do see her on tv she comes across as a fairly decent person - if a bit uncouth - but likeable all the same.

OP posts:
araiwa · 24/04/2021 12:11

So I'm guessing she's had a lot of plastic surgery?

Francescaisstressed · 24/04/2021 12:11

The same channels that will host a mental health month and make documentaries on the tragic case of nikki Grahame, will do this.
Yes, I'm sure that there are people that watched it with utter contempt for Charlotte but ultimately, Channel 5 decided to play it and I think that's abhorrent.
Charlotte has struggled with her mental health and they were aware of that. To go ahead with it anyway is disgusting.

BlueLobelia · 24/04/2021 12:12

I do not know who Charlotte Crosby is, but I am utterly shocked that this has happened to her. I admire her strength to stand up and say 'No. Not acceptable'.
All power to her and shame shame on Channel 5.

Vinto · 24/04/2021 12:15

I feel a bit torn on this actually. The to programme sounds trashy and salacious and not my cup of tea, but it's foolish for Charlotte to behave as if she's never participated in a salacious/trashy show herself.

The issue I think needs to be separated from how someone actually looks, against how someone chooses to cosmetically/surgically change their appearance. Like a pp referenced Zac Effron, people aren't critiquing 'his' looks, their commenting on noticeable work he's had done to change his looks.

The younger generation are being really heavily influenced to look at their face and body, and how it needs to be changed, filled or enhanced. Between the filters and the fillers, it's hard to have a real concept of what humans look like for under 30 year olds. I do think there needs to a conversation of 'x celebrity doesn't look like they present themself, they don't look like they did as a young adult before fame, they don't look like they do on Instagram' so don't compare yourself.

WallaceinAnderland · 24/04/2021 12:16

Are looks important? If they weren't, people would not have plastic surgery. If they are, people will talk about them.

If you are a famous face and you alter your looks, people will talk about it. Do people really chase this life of fame without knowing this?

Sosigsandwich · 24/04/2021 12:16

Absolutely appalling. I've complained to.channel 5 and ofcom. Suicide is rife and they do shit like this?!

Anyone who voted YABU should be ashamed. How would you feel having your looks ripped apart on TV?! She obviously has low self esteem to have had.so much work done.

priccey · 24/04/2021 12:18

I never watched geordie shore so don't know much about her but yes it's disgusting that they aired that show.

To pp yes I think she has had some surgeries but that doesn't give channel 5 a free pass to slate her appearance.

SusannahSophia · 24/04/2021 12:18

What time was this broadcast, please? So I can complain.

Vinto · 24/04/2021 12:20

The issue is inflated, swollen, painful looking overfilled lips has become the norm within a sector of society, in a more or less unregulated industry where anyone can gain a certificate to inject into 18 year olds faces. Popping in to a beauticians and handing over as little as £100 will give you the look you aspire to from tv and Instagram.

The mental health aspect needs to be examined from both sides, and promoting body dysmorphia is just as damaging as walking on egg shells around an issue and saying 'Don't listen to the haters, you look gorgeous Hun!'

Sooobooored · 24/04/2021 12:21

I read her statement yesterday and completely agree with her.

Lollyneenah · 24/04/2021 12:21

I doubt many 18 year old women would be able to ignore the lure of free surgery and fillers when they were having their nose, lips, boots and weight absolutely destroyed online.
I totally agree with Charlotte on this one, I hope she takes c5 to the cleaners.
