to ask how much you pay for gas and electricity a month?

4 adults living here plus one DD, only myself and DH pay anything towards rent/bills.

I’ve just had a bill just our gas usage alone which is close to 800 pound. That’s just from Jan this year to now! I am having a mini heart attack and absolutely dreading the electricity also! Our usual quarterly bills were around £700 for both (and even then I thought that was steep!)

Is this normal or should I be worried about a leak?!?

Should probably include that we live in a 4 bedroom house, that’s probably very relevant! Although we don’t use the heating very often we do have 4 adults showering once or twice a day.

Ours is £150 per month. 4 bed house, family of 6.

Periodohperiodwhereartthou · 09/04/2021 19:37

@BlessedBeTheFruitCake is that for both? Thanks for answering!

Ours is £135 a month in total. 4 bed detached house, 2 adults 1 toddler

Coldwinterahead1 · 09/04/2021 19:38

I live in a 2 bed and my last quarterly bill for both was £220 that a read bill not estimated. That's with baths every day for me and the kids but we do share the water. I'm not stingy with the heating either.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 09/04/2021 19:38

Ah sorry, yes it is for both.

noodlesandRhubarb · 09/04/2021 19:39

£245 a month for both 😱

NeverForgetYourDreams · 09/04/2021 19:39

£118 a month. 5 bed house. Two adults and a teen DH at home working all day but heating off 7am to 3pm.

windisblowing · 09/04/2021 19:40

4 bed, heating on all the time as I wfh permanently, obscene amount of showers (teens) and bout 130 per month

NeverForgetYourDreams · 09/04/2021 19:40

For both

Jumpers268 · 09/04/2021 19:41

We pay £166 a month for both. 2 adults and one child. It pains me. Plus the £166 a month is to make up for the winter months when it's way more! I couldn't live for that quarterly bill to come through so pay a monthly direct debit towards it.

ConnieCaterpillar70 · 09/04/2021 19:41

4 bed detached, rural. 80s build with new loft insulation, cavity wall insulation and new glazing. Coldest draftiest house known to man.

Electric is £150 a month
Bulk LPG is £180 a month

And we also use a woodburner, which costs around £300 a year in wood.

Our thermostat reads 19.6c tonight, and the heating has been on since around 3pm........... if it wasn't pissing down, I'd go outside for some wood!

DragonMamma · 09/04/2021 19:41

Mine was £120 a month pre Covid but since I’ve been WFH from last March to date, and the DC have been in all day (charging 4 laptops daily etc) it’s just been revised at £185 a month 😣

user1487194234 · 09/04/2021 19:41

£175 a month
4 bed house
2 adults and 2 teens
I hate being cold

HippeePrincess · 09/04/2021 19:42

£68 a month gas and electric combined, large 2 bed the size of a 3 bed, 2 adults and 2 kids. We aren’t particularly careful with the usage of anything heating, hot water etc.

Jumpers268 · 09/04/2021 19:42

Although your bill is crazy high!!! I just check my quarterly bill and it was £405.60 for both and that's from December until March.

DragonMamma · 09/04/2021 19:42

I should say we are 4 bed detached with 2 adults (who shower daily) and 2 DC (who would shower once a week if they could get away with it...)

Larryslockdownlunch · 09/04/2021 19:46

£200 per month for both. 4 bed/4 story Victorian terrace. 7 of us - 3 adults, 2 teens, 1primary age and one baby

LadyEuphemia · 09/04/2021 19:46

£123 a month for both, 3 adults, in a 3 bed 1930s semi. What kind of house are you living in where both bills are that high?. I’d get your meters checked.

VerityWibbleWobble · 09/04/2021 19:47

£110 a month for 12 months a year for a three bed, three storey semi new build. Heating in a lot and dh working from home and I've been furloughed a lot.

CamdenLurker · 09/04/2021 19:48

5 bedrooms, 6 people and we pay £225 duel fuel every month.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 09/04/2021 19:59

2 bed semi, 2 people. £100pm ish for both. I never scrimp on heating and in the winter it's on for about 7 hours a day.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 09/04/2021 20:00

Two-bed terrace and two adults, but I work part-time (partially rom home) so I'm around a lot during the day.

We pay around £60 a month for both. British Gas.

Dogsandbabies · 09/04/2021 20:15

4 bed semi here. 5 of us, although 3 are kids but we do shower/bathe every day. We have a smart thermostat that I do think makes a difference. We pay around £260 a quarter.

Dogsandbabies · 09/04/2021 20:16

Electricity is a lot less. Around 160 a quarter. And we are currently wfh so laptops, TVs, cooking all in house.
