to ask how much you pay for gas and electricity a month?

4 adults living here plus one DD, only myself and DH pay anything towards rent/bills.

I’ve just had a bill just our gas usage alone which is close to 800 pound. That’s just from Jan this year to now! I am having a mini heart attack and absolutely dreading the electricity also! Our usual quarterly bills were around £700 for both (and even then I thought that was steep!)

Is this normal or should I be worried about a leak?!?

130 electric
65 gas

3 DC 1 Adult
Terrace

Hagqueen · 09/04/2021 21:59

Around 38 for gas (only heating) 33 for electric. I am not careful with it and heating is on 12-15 hrs a day up until recently as working from home.

3 bed semi, old property, but only me in it.

emmathedilemma · 09/04/2021 22:00

Around £75 a month (that was over the winter) for gas & electric with bulb. Just me in a draughty 2 bed. I've used a lot more gas this year due to having the heating on more while working from home. I'll be shopping around as they've just put their rates up again.

Ivy48 · 09/04/2021 22:03

3 bed terrace, £38 electric and £50 gas a month. We usually owe money by the end of winter (£100 or so in April’s quarterly bill) for gas but it evens out over the summer. Electric is usually in credit. Your bill sounds extortionate

LovingBob · 09/04/2021 22:06

3 bed detached, 2 adults, £110 a month.

TechnoDino · 09/04/2021 22:07

4 bed victorian semi, £145 ddebit per month for both.

AnExcellentWalker · 09/04/2021 22:09

£62 per month for both combined. New build house, 2 bedroom, 3 people, on top of a hill in a very exposed (cold & windy) position. North ish. I'd have the thermostat lower TBH but DH keeps turning it up, & they both leave all the doors open...

itsgood2talk · 09/04/2021 22:11

£92 per month for both 3 bed house 2 adults 2 young kids

CornishTiger · 09/04/2021 22:11

My first thought was who is growing cannabis in your roof void. Then I saw it was gas!

Honestly you have a massive problem. Check if estimated or readings. Ask for meter to get looked at

SchrodingersImmigrant · 09/04/2021 22:15

3 bed, 2 adults gas and electricity together about 90. In a summer about 50? Something like that

jennymac31 · 09/04/2021 22:15

£70 a month for both. 3 bed house (2 adults and 2 kids). Contract deal due to end in June so bills may go up.

Cipot · 09/04/2021 22:18

£80 a month with Bulb for 3 bed semi for both gas and electric combined.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 09/04/2021 22:20

3 bed terrace, badly insulated and a dp who insists on sitting around in hours and a t shirt and then ramping up the thermostat to like 30 degrees... my combined gas and electric is about £100/month ocer winter and about £50 the rest of the year

picknmix1984 · 09/04/2021 22:25

£88 per month combined. 3 bed middle town house. We moved in 2019 from a large (4 bed 3 reception) all electric stone built cottage with storage heaters.. each one could cost around a fiver a night to run..:-0 I wore dressing gowns on top of my clothes with a hot water bottle strapped to my tummy, and fingerless gloves..

Idiotathome79 · 09/04/2021 22:42

Plus the usuals washing machine , cooker freezer and devices ( 2 xboxes and 3 TVs used nightly )

madaboutrunning · 09/04/2021 22:46

£89 a month for both. 2 adults in a 4-bed detached house. Showers every day, baths probably twice a week - more in winter. Heating on most of the time (although not high) as I WFH and DH feels the cold. Also have the washing machine on a lot as we get through a lot of sports gear.

Meme69 · 09/04/2021 23:03

Have you only just moved in? If not does this compare to other bills? If not, was the meter read correctly when you first moved in? What tariff are you on? Can you switch?

That sounds a lot to me. I have a 5 bed house, 3 adults a 10 year old and a teen. They all shower every day and I always have the heating on if I get cold. It cost £129 a month and I'm in credit (not by a lot and it will go down over the next 2 months).

I do have zoned heating though so only have which rooms I need heated on at a time, and underfloor heating downstairs.

girlofnow · 09/04/2021 23:03

£145 per month for both on octopus, 5 bed house. Both wfh!

liliesinbloom · 09/04/2021 23:05

£90 a month, 3 bed house, 3 occupants

LucieStar · 09/04/2021 23:06

4 bed detached, large old Victorian style house.£180 a month for both.

girlofnow · 09/04/2021 23:07

With 4 adults it's not extreme i guess, but £200 a month for gas is a lot. Have you got a smart meter? That will tell you where it's being spent.

Lastnightidreamtofmanderley · 09/04/2021 23:10

£280 per month 4 bed detached 2 adults and 2 teenage DC but I hate being cold. I’m not working from home but heating is always on just turned up or down on the thermostat
