to ask how much you pay for gas and electricity a month?

4 adults living here plus one DD, only myself and DH pay anything towards rent/bills.

I’ve just had a bill just our gas usage alone which is close to 800 pound. That’s just from Jan this year to now! I am having a mini heart attack and absolutely dreading the electricity also! Our usual quarterly bills were around £700 for both (and even then I thought that was steep!)

Is this normal or should I be worried about a leak?!?

For both

Leavethedooropen · 10/04/2021 08:23

Small 2 bed terrace, one adult, one teenager, £70pm. Newish house which is always warm.

noblegreenk · 10/04/2021 08:23

Ours is currently £109 per month. There's 3 of us, in a 3 bed semi. We we're both furloughed last year, with me going back in Nov and DH went back in Feb. Pre covid our energy bill was £93, so hoping it'll start to come down with us being back at work plus summer.

Biker47 · 10/04/2021 08:24

£95 a month, 4 bedroom detached, 2 people.

SciFiScream · 10/04/2021 09:40

3 bed semi detached, Scotland wet and extremely windy (the other day the wind was 51.5 kph) £95 pcm for gas and electricity. 2 adults, 1 x primary DC, 1 x secondary DC.

Bill has crept up since everyone joined me at home (I've WFH since July 2019)

House built 1989 so quite modern. We've insulated the loft, we've got double glazing. We've tried to be sensible with things like flooring and curtains to maximise heat retention

I try to be green and keep gas and electricity use low.

We don't have a gas oven/hob so gas is only for the central heating and hot water. We have an electric shower

EmmaJR1 · 10/04/2021 09:50

3 bed house
1 bed annexe
4 adults
2 preschoolers
Electricity only

£280 PER Month.

CaviarAndCigarettes · 10/04/2021 10:03

Family of five, four bed semi detached house. We pay £120 per month.
I use the dishwasher two to three times a day and always tumble dry because otherwise the washing just builds up too quickly.
Dc are all primary age

champions55 · 10/04/2021 10:06

Doesn't sound right to me. I'd call them ask if something cld be wrong with the bills.

We've got a 4 bed detached house, 2 adults 3yr old and 1yr old. I'm home everyday either with kids or wfh. Our bill is £95 for both and we usually get a credit back!

We have a dishwasher that's on everyday, washing machine and tumble dryer also at least once a day. Heating is on all the time, from 6am to 10pm it's set to 20.5 degrees (in central Scotland too so it's cold). It also comes on during the night if it goes below 17 degrees. Showers and bath used everyday too.

notdaddycool · 10/04/2021 10:09

DD is £93 a month 2 adults 2 primary aged kids. 3 bedroom Victorian terrace, patchy insulation., first generation double glazing.

Thriwit · 10/04/2021 10:16

I’m in a 3 bed semi-detached, 2 adults & 2 primary-age kids. We’ve both been wfh most of the last year.
We have a pre-payment meter, and it’s usually around £35 of electric a month year-round, and gas varies massively - in the summer maybe £10 a month, in the winter £70-£80 a month. Averages out at around £90/month for both I think.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 10/04/2021 10:20

2 bed mid terrace, 2 adults 1 toddler ds. £81 a month for both which I thought was steep until reading some of these replies...

TurquoiseDress · 10/04/2021 10:35

We are 2 adults & 2 DC under 7

Live in a 2 bed maisonette and up til recently paid around £57/month for gas & electricity

The 12 month fixed ran out a couple of months ago and it's now almost £100/month!Shock

Have now switched to another supplier for dual supply but it's still around £80/month fixed for next 12 months

I think this is a reflection of price rises for gas & electricity!

wendz86 · 10/04/2021 10:43

I was paying £44 a month for both, just gone up to £64 a month as i used more over winter than normal working at home etc. 2 bed detached house.

TheFormidableMrsC · 10/04/2021 10:47

£90 a month here for both. Just me and 10 yo DS. Three bed, 3 story end terrace. I have tried everything to get it down but that's as low as it goes. Should probably change supplier.

cannaethink · 10/04/2021 10:55

I pay £47 a month for both at the moment. I’m with bulb, 3 bed ground floor flat, 1 adult and two dcs.

Nohomemadecandles · 10/04/2021 10:58

4 of us. 2 at home all day. 3 bed cottage.
£145 for the two I believe.

Acovic · 10/04/2021 11:01

£240 / month. 4 bed 3 reception house.

Electric showers
Modern Gas Boiler

In Scotland (so heating on a lot of the time).

Deadposhtory · 10/04/2021 11:26

70 for both
4 bed detached
I'm always in credit and always have my heat blasting out

Newnamefor2021 · 14/04/2021 12:01

£290 a month for both, switched supplier which will apparently be £220 a month.

While we are talking suppliers, if you're with British Gas can I ask you to look at what British Gas have done to their workers. They have been fired and rehired for not accepting more hours for less pay and cor not accepting a system which means jobs are timed, for example 20 minutes for a service, and if they take longer they will owe the company that time, which has major safety implications. So today 100s or thousands of British Gas workers will be fired for not accepting those terms. I switched as I can't support a company that uses immoral actions like fire and rehire 4 days into the negotiations.

MinnieJackson · 14/04/2021 13:54

£180 a month, 4 bed, 3 bathroom house with four adults, three children

ChiefBabySniffer · 14/04/2021 13:59

5 bed house with two adults and three teens. My electric is £240 a month and my gas £50. But- we have a hot tub, cook on electric and my two boys have three computer monitors/TVs each in their bedrooms.

OldEvilOwl · 14/04/2021 17:04

£85 a month for gas & electric. 3 bedroom house just me and two DC. We do have a log burner though

Whammyyammy · 14/04/2021 17:14

£120 pm, 2 adults, 3 bed old stone cottage , so not bad really.

Bbq1 · 14/04/2021 20:20

Gas and elec currently £80 a month. 3 bed semi. 2 adults and teen ds. About 18 showers between us per week and ds's showers are 20 minutes long! Sounds v cheap in comparison to everyone else.

TheRealMrsMorningstar · 14/04/2021 20:23

It was £84 combined for both until thos month when it has shot up to 90 for electricity and 70 for gas. I have no idea how though!
