to ask how much you pay for gas and electricity a month?

4 adults living here plus one DD, only myself and DH pay anything towards rent/bills.

I’ve just had a bill just our gas usage alone which is close to 800 pound. That’s just from Jan this year to now! I am having a mini heart attack and absolutely dreading the electricity also! Our usual quarterly bills were around £700 for both (and even then I thought that was steep!)

Is this normal or should I be worried about a leak?!?

5 bed house
Two adults, two children
About £100 a month for gas/electric monthly. We have solar panels as well. Our heating is on ALOT and the temp is set high. DH insists on it while the rest of us are boiling hot.

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 09/04/2021 23:32

No gas where we live. 4 bed detached with 2 adults and one teenager we spend about £230 per month on electricity and oil.

cachedelete · 10/04/2021 00:07

4 bed end terrace, old and cold. Worst winter monthly gas bill has been £150 (electric never more than £30 but we have solar).

idontlikealdi · 10/04/2021 00:23

£130 per month for both, we pay all year so it evens out. 3 bed Victorian semi

ThebirdsAndBeesWhereThere · 10/04/2021 00:33

Wow some of these are eye watering !

3 bed semi - £60 a month combined. Showers everyday for us all. Don't do a huge amount of washing (4 loads a week) but don't have the heating on loads as I'm always warm !

Thedogscollar · 10/04/2021 00:39

£100 per month for 3 bed semi with 2 adults. Heating on every evening from 4pm till late. Just got email today from Eon to say DD being reduced to £85 pm.
I'd ask for your meter to be checked.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 10/04/2021 00:46

3 bed house, 2 people. Heating on from dawn til midnight. £75 per month for both.

Scrumbleton · 10/04/2021 01:04

£151 a month for both. 4 bed house- 4 adults

jessstan2 · 10/04/2021 02:12

I couldn't remember so just checked.

My last bill, Dec 2020, was £705.28. I am currently paying £177 a month by direct debit.

sanityisamyth · 10/04/2021 02:22

No gas so just electricity here with electric heaters. £55 a month for 1 adult, 1 7 year old in 2 bed flat.

Twyler · 10/04/2021 02:41

We are a pensioner couple who have been stuck in 3 bed detached house due to covid, over last 12 months to end of March our gas and electricity use on current tariffs cost £745 ie avg £62 pm. Costs for first 3 months of this year totalled £235 for both.

MaverickDanger · 10/04/2021 02:47

80 for both.

DH working from home four days pw, me on mat leave (so home permanently) and DS.

Four bed detached house. Heating kept constant at 22 degrees for 12 hours a day as DH is nesh (well, Australian).

We do live in a new build so that makes a big difference.

PopsicleHustler · 10/04/2021 03:00

Ours is pay as you go meter. We pay 70 a month for gas, 60 a month for electric. We are with EDF. And it's 7 people here.

StormcloakNord · 10/04/2021 03:16

It's crazy what a difference a new build makes.

4 bed detached, 3 in the house and we're around 80 a month for both. That's with the heating on year round at 18c (although it rarely if ever comes on in summer!)

VaizyCrazyDaizy · 10/04/2021 03:23

3 bed semi, very cold draughty house that never warms up so heating is on 24/7 for six months and was £185 per month but oddly the energy company said they were reducing their charges and now £140 per month. Five people with a few TVs, loads of electronics on the go, people up night and days in these covid times so energy usage high. I do go around switching lights off as if that helps?!

NameChange74567 · 10/04/2021 03:30

3 bed semi, 2 adults, 3 children £87 for both.

jessstan2 · 10/04/2021 03:35

From reading these posts, it seems my EDF bill is not too bad at all for a three bed semi. That's good news.

Curlyshabtree · 10/04/2021 06:52

£80 per month for both. 3 bed back to back terrace. 2 adults, 2 teens

FTEngineerM · 10/04/2021 07:04

Asking for people’s monthly direct debit amount is pointless because:

You don’t know if they’re ok credit or debit
You don’t know what they’re actually paying /kWh
You don’t know what their appliances are like
You don’t know what their habits are like
You don’t know if their single fuel E7

Get meter reading, get accurate bills for last 12 months and go and look online for another supplier. There’ll almost certainly be a cheaper one.

ok=in

NoGoodPunsLeft · 10/04/2021 07:14

Join the money saving expert energy club and do.a comparison. That seems incredibly high! We are 2 adults & 1 child but WFH and aren't too shy about putting the heating on (gas) and pay £80 A month for both.

M0nstermunch · 10/04/2021 07:17

2 adults, 2 young teens. 4 bed Detached, both adults WFH since last year. For both gas and elec ours are approx 80-90 April-Sep and 130-140 per month Oct-March. We pay £110 per month and it evens out.

MrsExpo · 10/04/2021 07:31

Following with interest!

2 adults in a 4 bed detached, no gas (oil heating) so all cooking, showers etc electricity. Electricity bill is around £70 per month.

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 10/04/2021 07:57

£220 per month.

But we don't have gas central heating and I only have a gas hob, so 99.99% of my bill is for electricity.

Electric storage heaters and an immersion heater for hot water in a 3 bed detached 400 year old cottage with no way of insulating the roof!

Trinacham · 10/04/2021 08:18

A couple in a 3 bed mid terrace £58 a month
