Thank you NorthWest Smile

I'm still hanging on in there, it's just so refreshing that everything is much more stable than it has been. I catch up on the mood of the moment with some of Jen Psaki's press briefings.

I'm still reading with interest.

My musings about 60% of Republicans still thinking that the election was stolen and that they want Trump to run again in 2024 is that it might actually help the Democrats as it demonstrates that the Trumpers are still in control of the RNC.

But the efforts to disenfranchise potential Democratic voters is a risk Sad

Hello. Still here and thank you for the new thread NorthWest.

pointythings · 08/04/2021 10:04

I'm pretty scared about what's happening with voter suppression, but I have some hope that grassroots movements will be able to circumvent it - and they have time to do that with the mid terms being a while away yet.

Apart from that the Biden administration is just refreshingly boring.

Lweji · 08/04/2021 10:10

Signing in, although I'm mostly lurking these much more boring days.

Thanks for the new thread. I learn so much on here, good laughs too.

I think that as soon as it is clear what hoops are being required in a given state/county, everyone there who is in any way active should immediately start trying to make sure that every single person they know has the ability to jump through those hoops: if a driving license/permit/ID is required, get them those NOW so that it can't be claimed they got them only in order to vote, and so on.

Signing in with a Jen Psaki reply

'“Like many Americans, she got a snack. I think she’s allowed to do that.”

Thanks for the new thread!

I'm keeping fingers crossed for the gun control moves. I just wish they'd expand the 'red flag' laws to include close friends as well as family and medical professionals.

My BFF's 'd'H is unbalanced and abusive. He has any number of firearms and has threatened her with them in the past. I never find out about these 'incidents' until after they happen. I tried to 'red flag' him when she told me about one the day after but was told because I wasn't a 'close relative' I couldn't, and she won't do it herself nor will any of her family members. This is how family annihilators manage to do what they do. Those closest to them are too afraid of them to say anything.

In other news, FEMA is reimbursing for Covid funeral expenses up to $9000 as part of Biden's Covid relief plan. Not expected, but very helpful especially to families of limited means.

Day 9 of the Chauvin trial

amp.cnn.com/cnn/us/live-news/derek-chauvin-trial-04-08-21/index.html

Pulmonary expert Dr. Martin Tobin testified there was “absolutely no way” George Floyd’s chest could expand properly to breathe, concluding Floyd was “using his fingers and his knuckles against the street to try and crank up the right side of his chest.”

DuncinToffee · 08/04/2021 17:03

Your poor friend Across Sad and how frustrating you can't report if you are not a close relative. It must feel like waiting for the inevitable to happen.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 08/04/2021 18:46

Oh, Matty - not looking good.

Joel Greenberg- an associate of Rep. Matt Gaetz is likely to take a plea in his case.
A deal would put pressure on Gaetz, as Greenberg would have to share what he knows about his friend and associate.

Northern Ireland

Lewis Goodall @lewis_goodall

NEW: White House spokesperson Jen Psaki expresses Biden administration concern about situation in NI: "We are concerned by the violence in Northern Ireland and we join the British, Irish and Northern Irish leaders in their call for calm..."
"...We remain steadfast supporters of a secure and prosperous Northern Ireland in which all communities have a voice and enjoy the gains of the hard-won peace.
We welcome the provisions in both the EU-UK trade and cooperation agreement and the Northern Ireland protocol..."
"...which help protect the gains of the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement.”

cyclingmad · 08/04/2021 19:45

I do wonder what all the Biden fans think now about the border situation. I remember up to election how they gleefully regaled how awful Trump was for separating children and building the wall etc. How Biden was a better choice...

Oh wait the people crossing over and in awful conditions, reports of children starving etc.. where are these people bow? Why are they not denouncing what Biden s administration is doing

So much for Biden being better

pointythings · 08/04/2021 19:52

So, cycling my old mucker, what do you think about the new Georgia voter suppression ID law then? Nice piece of GOP legislation, that.

DuncinToffee · 08/04/2021 20:01

It really is. She won't leave him and that's her 'right'. But yes, if we ever get 'that phone call' it will not be a huge surprise.

The only 'saving grace' is that she never challenges him, and does seem to have a 6th sense of when she needs to keep out of his line of sight so he doesn't 'focus' his evil moods on her. It's such a sad sad life for someone who can be so full of joy when he's not around.

lionheart · 08/04/2021 21:43

That's awful, Across.
