Hmm Yoga can leave you injured, psychotic and a Hindu, Christian groups claim. Alabama lawmaker’s bid to overturn a 28-year yoga ban in public schools faces backlash from conservative Christian groups. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/apr/17/alabama-yoga-ban-public-schools-christian-groups?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

The America that fought a war to get rid itself of the "Anglo" part of "Anglo-Saxon"?

pointythings · 17/04/2021 15:29

Well, yes. Yoga can leave you injured. Just like any other physical exercise, in fact, if you do it wrong or are unlucky. The rest of it is just bullshit.

(CNN)Conservative Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is scrapping the planned launch of her "America First" caucus after receiving blowback from leaders in her own party, despite confirming through a spokesperson on Friday that the caucus would launch.

And here's another report on how there won't be an Anglo-Saxon revival after all.

No shit, Sherlock.

Current and former employees of pro-Trump ‘OAN’ network say it pushes ‘inaccurate or untrue’ reports
deadstate.org/current-and-former-employees-of-pro-trump-oan-network-say-it-pushes-inaccurate-or-untrue-reports/

Speaking to The New York Times, current and former employees of the pro-Trump One America News Network (OAN) told the outlet that they don’t trust the network to tell the truth.

Marty Golingan, an OAN producer since 2016, said that he worried his work at the network may have helped inspire the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. He also said that others disagreed with the network’s coverage.

“The majority of people did not believe the voter fraud claims being run on the air,” Golingan said, adding that when he saw a Capitol rioter flying a flag sporting the network’s logo, “I was like, OK, that’s not good.”
........

As The New York Times’ Rachel Abrams points out, OAN continues to broadcast segments questioning the validity of the 2020 presidential election.

“There’s still serious doubts about who’s actually president,” OAN correspondent Pearson Sharp said in a March 28 report.

“OAN has also promoted the debunked theory that the rioters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 were left-wing agitators. Toward the end of a March 4 news segment that described the attack as the work of ‘antifa’ and ‘anti-Trump extremists’ — and referred to the president as ‘Beijing Biden’ — Mr. Sharp said, ‘History will show it was the Democrats, and not the Republicans, who called for this violence.’ Investigations have found no evidence that people who identify with antifa, a loose collective of antifascist activists, were involved in the Capitol riot,” Abrams writes.

Oh god. Sorry, this is nothing to do with the US or democracy, but I don't feel up to starting a thread, and I just need to say something.

The Table Mountain fire has spread into UCT library, housing the Special Collections, ie original manuscripts and documents of African History. Sad

The automatic fire doors triggered, thank god, but the Reading Room is gutted and they won't know what the full damage is until it's safe to go in – the wildfire is still out of control.

Worried for people, too. Don't know how far this will spread.

Roussette · 19/04/2021 12:29

I saw all this a day or two ago. We love Cape Town and have been a number of times, and just was shocked at it.
They went through so much with drought, we were there when they were struggling to cope with it.
The footage of the fire raging is horrific.

www.usnews.com/news/politics/articles/2021-04-16/president-biden-nears-100-day-mark-with-high-approval-rating-survey-finds

What great news this is.

Joe Biden 59% approval rating after 100 days in office.

lionheart · 19/04/2021 14:10

Yes, I saw that. Terrible to think about what is lost.

lionheart · 19/04/2021 22:09

Prosecution: you were told George Floyd died because his heart was too big. The reason he died is because Chauvin’s heart was too small.

Roussette · 20/04/2021 08:07

I've been watching some of the trial. I fear what is going to happen when the verdict is announced.

lionheart · 20/04/2021 08:47

Let's hope that justice prevails.

I don't know if it will change things though.

Brian Sicknick: US Capitol riot policeman 'died of natural causes'

He had two strokes shortly after being attacked with pepper spray by the rioters, rather dying from injuries as initially suggested.

Bear spray. People die after being sprayed with it.

I am not at all sure how "natural" that stuff is; after all, arsenic is found in nature.

If "injury" means only "the result of being hit by something" that wipes out a lot of externally-inflicied causes of death.

PerkingFaintly · 20/04/2021 11:35

Oh I agree. But specifically it was originally suggested that he had died from the direct result of being hit with a fire extinguisher, so I feel it's right to correct the record by saying that it was from strokes, with the attack on the Capitol being a contributing factor (according to the doctor).

Of course some police officers were also physically struck, to put it mildly, and seriously injured.

AcrossthePond55 · 20/04/2021 12:55

Bear spray. People die after being sprayed with it.

For sure. There's no comparison between bear spray and 'pepper spray'. DH & I had a 'bear spray incident' in our caravan in the Tetons. The safety was off and it fell off a table and landed on the handle. It was just the littlest 'psst' but it sent us fleeing the trailer coughing, watery eyes, and me wheezing (asthma). We had to open all the windows for more than an hour before the smell and 'residuals' were gone.

'Natural causes', my Aunt Fanny! There's nothing 'natural' about a stroke (let alone a series of them) that was induced by a traumatic incident, especially one that is so likely to have made it impossible for Ofcr Sicknick to catch a breath or see clearly. Something's rotten in the state of Denmark!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 20/04/2021 13:18

I am not holding my breath waiting for the verdict on Chauvin, either.

DuncinToffee · 20/04/2021 17:03

A federal judge on Monday jailed two Proud Boys leaders pending trial in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, handing a victory to U.S. prosecutors in a closely watched conspiracy case accusing the pair of planning to disrupt Congress and leading as many as 60 others to impede police that day.

I think it's going to be a hung jury, I really do.

@PerkingFaintly

Lots on Twitter that the fires are out in CT after tremendous efforts by the firefighters. Lots of terrible damage of course. But such heroism with little in the way of injuries.

This tweet is just for you...
