Cheeky tourist used my address for their takeaway!!

I live near a park, so we get a lot of tourists in the area.

Today, some girl visiting the park ordered herself an uber eats delivery to specifically my exact address so I had a driver knocking on my door. I thought he must be in the wrong place so asked to look at the address so I could direct him, as that sometimes happens, but it was my full address on there! It's quite an obscure address as well as it has a different postcode to the rest of the street and the house has a name instead of a number, which we don't display so you would need to look it up to get the whole thing. There was even a description in the delivery instructions.

She wasn't close by to receive the delivery either and the poor driver was really confused and awkward and was trying to call her and she didnt pick up her phone, and he was stuck waiting there for quite a while going are you sure it's not yours, you dont know anyone called name that could have sent it, it's been paid for so I have to deliver it, the person who ordered it needs to be at the address it's ordered to. I felt so bad for him.

AIBU to think that is blo*dy rude?! I might not have minded if she had asked first or had been around to receive it but to me I just think its really inconsiderate. When she finally turned up I asked her if she didnt think it was a bit inappropriate and rude and told her not to ever do it again and she just acted like I had been super offensive and sarcastically told me to have a nice day.

Some tourists can be so lovely and others are just so self absorbed.

Strange and rude. I suppose she couldn’t put the park gate down as the address.

myknightinshiningwhatever · 04/04/2021 18:11

Yeah she's a dick

Pleaseaddcaffine · 04/04/2021 18:13

Take in eat it! Assume it was a gift.
Rude though

LabbyNoona · 04/04/2021 18:13

I’ve put a random address right next to a park on a deliveroo order before, only way of getting something delivered to the park Smile But then I watch like a hawk and jump up and collect as soon as I see the driver! Would be mortified if they rang the bell Grin

Tereseta · 04/04/2021 18:13

Next time keep the takeaway! Very strange and entitled behaviour

BillyIsMyBunny · 04/04/2021 18:15

Think once I realised it was delivered to my address I would have said, ‘Oh, it must have been a gift from someone!’ and kept it. Presumably if Just Eat delivered to the address she gave that would be on her and not the restaurant.

Surely the driver would have to deliver to the correct address not some random on the street. You could have put tne delivery driver in a very awkward situation.
fairydustandpixies · 04/04/2021 18:17

I would have taken it in and eaten it if it wasn't obviously for a neighbour. That would stop her doing it again, cheeky mare.

Tinydinosaur · 04/04/2021 18:20

I'd have accepted it.

Mylovelyhorsee · 04/04/2021 18:20

I’ve done that ordering coffees to the park on Uber eats! I kept an eye out for the diver and flagged him down when he pulled up though so he didn’t go to the house.

Changechangychange · 04/04/2021 18:20

I’d have kept it too. Well, probably binned it, but definitely wouldn’t have let the cheeky bitch have it.

eatsleepread · 04/04/2021 18:20

What a dick she is. I'm glad you were kind and sympathetic to the delivery driver though, OP Star It can't be easy for them when customers pull stunts like this.

Beseigedbykillersquirrels · 04/04/2021 18:21

I've never heard of this, I can't believe people are so bloody cheeky! For her to be so incredulous when she finally arrived for it, after you'd been bothered and the poor delivery driver spent valuable time chasing her is really taking the piss.

DrSbaitso · 04/04/2021 18:21

It was paid for and she wasn't around or contactable? You should have taken it and eaten it!

MadMadMadamMim · 04/04/2021 18:22

I'd have eaten it.

I certainly wouldn't have wasted my time hanging about with the driver wondering where the CF was. Not paid for - I'd have sent him away.

Paid for I'd have accepted it, closed my door and not opened it again that afternoon.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 04/04/2021 18:24

Was it anything tempting?

If it smelled good I don't think I could have resisted saying "Oh yes. I forgot. I definitely ordered it."

whatchathinkaboutthat · 04/04/2021 18:25

That's really rude. She could have at least apologised but unfortunately some people are entitled and bad mannered or just miserable. Thank you for being kind to the delivery driver Star they must get such a hard time of it.

thefirstmrsrochester · 04/04/2021 18:26

Cheeky so and so. I’d have been tempted to take it but then I guess the deliveroo would have got it in the nuts for the person who placed the order not getting their meal, and the retailer/restaurant having to stump up a replacement.

TidyDancer · 04/04/2021 18:28

That's completely unacceptable! You just don't use anyone's address for anything without asking!

Plumbear2 · 04/04/2021 18:28

I doubt this would happen. They delivered to the address on the order, if people are stupid enough to use a false address on their order that's their problem.
MaLarkinn · 04/04/2021 18:29

I couldn't get worked up over this

Catslovepies · 04/04/2021 18:30

I wouldn't really mind about the house and might actually think "what a good idea". However I'd be really angry on behalf of the poor underpaid driver who shouldn't have been kept waiting as in his job the only way to make a living is to keep moving.

queenofthenorthwest · 04/04/2021 18:30

She should of asked first but I also couldn't get worked up about it.

Womencanlift · 04/04/2021 18:31

What a CF - and that goes for the posters who admit they do the same thing. I would have just taken it. Too bad if someone has already paid for it, it was delivered to your address.

mooonstone · 04/04/2021 18:32

I’ve had food delivered to a park during lockdown, it’s completely normal. The issue is the delivery address as it’s currently “contact-free leave outside only” - so sometimes you can’t directly select the park (as that involves meeting the delivery driver). Here, the app won’t let you progress with the order without another using address that has the “leave outside” option

She probably just dropped the pin on a random place that was near the park entrance, rather than purposely targeting you. I have ordered food to a nearby hotel and just walked it back to the park. The delivery driver should have left the food outside vs knocking as it’s supposed to be “contact free”, he shouldn’t have kept asking you to accept it and should have phoned the customer first. He’s covered if the customer isn’t there, that’s the caveat of “leave outside” delivery during the pandemic. The customer accepts responsibility.

She definitely should have met the delivery driver, she would have had a map of his location at all times and would be able to see him moving closer so should have been there in good time to collect it outside.
